*Aria’s POV*

The Past.

The snow had started again by the time I finished stitching him.

It fell quietly outside the clinic window, fat white flakes drifting like they had nowhere urgent to be. The world felt hushed, suspended – like it was holding its breath along with me

He lay on the narrow examination bed, shirt discarded, skin pale beneath the harsh overhead light.

“You’re lucky.” I said, more to myself than to him, as I clipped the final suture. My voice sounded steadier than I felt. “Another inch, and you would have bled out in the alley.”

His mouth curved faintly – not a smile. Something sharper. Something restrained.

“Luck.” He murmured. “That’s not a word people usually associate with me.”

I glanced up despite myself.

His eyes were open now. The same gray-steel eyes. They were watching me with an intensity that made my pulse stutter. Not feverish. Not weak, they were just alert. As if pain had done nothing to dull him.

“You should be resting.” I said, stepping back, busying

*Aria's POV*I didn’t go back to my room.If I do, I might sit. If I sit, I might think. And if I think too long, I might break. So I walked. The mansion stretched endlessly around me – stone corridors, vaulted ceilings, doors that led to rooms I will never be allowed to claim as mine. This place was built to impress, to intimidate, to remind everyone inside it that power lives here. But power, I’ve learned, is only impressive when you don’t know its weakness. And I knew Lucian’s.I stepped outside into the cold. The air bit, sharp and clean, and I welcomed it. It cleared my head. Grounded me. Reminded me that I am still a body that belonged to itself.‘Fiancée.’The word looped in my mind like a blade worrying at bone.Lila Gallo. She hadn’t needed to raise her voice, Hadn’t needed to threaten me outright. Women like her never dom. They imply. They position. They smile deciding where to cut.I had seen that kind of woman before. In fact, I was raised among them.I stopped near the ed

2 days went by. I didn’t see Lucian, and Nikolai told me that he had business to take care of outside the mansion.I hated that a part of me missed him. That a part of me still loved him. I feel like I’m betraying myself.Lucian’s rules were off when he left, I could see Adrian whenever I liked, we could go have walks in the garden. Even though under watchful eyes all the time.I woke up in the morning, with a kind of quiet that comes after the storm has burned everything it could reach and left only the things strong enough to stand.I sat up slowly, grounding myself in the present. In the room. In the fact that I am still here. That Adrian is still here. That no matter how suffocating this house becomes, I have survived worse.I smoothed my clothes, and lifted my chin. The mansion felt different that morning. It wasn’t tense, but it was as if preparing for something.People moved with purpose, voices lowered, footsteps sharper. Something was coming – I could feel it in the way the a

*Aria’s POV*I opened my eyes to silence. Not the peaceful kind of silence, but the one that pressed against my ears. That’s when I realized that something was wrong.I was laying naked, in Lucian’s bed.A lot of things were wrong.I didn’t remember when I fell asleep, the only thing I remembered was sitting on the edge of the bed, my spine stiff, my thoughts a storm. Lucian’s presence still burned into the air like a brand.I could still feel a tingling all over my body from what had happened yesterday, and how I begged him shamelessly to c*m.I hate him.But in that moment I hated myself more.I was now sitting in the center of the bed, and looked everywhere. the sheets were dark. They were too clean and I felt as if I was tainting them. But they smelled like him in that dangerous way that made my chest tighten before my mind could catch up.I pushed myself from the bed slowly. My body didn’t hurt, but my head did.It felt almost like an insult.A dull, heavy ache behind my eyes, li

*Lucian’s POV*The men were barely breathing by the time I was done with them. One was unconscious, the second was sobbing, and the third – barely recognizable – was still awake.I crouched in front of him, immaculate despite the blood soaking the concrete floor. I removed my gloves slowly, deliberately, as if this were a meeting and not a slaughter. My fav time of the day.“Tell them.” I said quietly. “Exactly what I say.”The man shook, teeth chattering. “Y-yes. Please –”I smiled, but it didn’t reach my eyes. One of my enforcers placed a phone in the man’s trembling hands. Pathetic. The video started recording, as I stepped into the frame.I didn’t raise my voice. I never needed to.“This message is for the Hale family.”The man whimpered behind the camera.“You sent assassins after a woman under my protection.” I continued evenly. “After a child who carries the Drakov blood.”I leaned down, resting my forearms on my knees, gaze unwavering,“That was your first mistake.”I gestured

*Aria’s POV*After what happened at my family ‘reunion’, I decided to leave Adrian with me, even at night. I wouldn’t risk them getting to him, even if Lucian says that the mansion is protected.Lucian went instantly to his room, calling his men. Including Carlo, Nikolai and Rylan.Adrian woke up on the way here, but kept quiet the whole way. Once we were in my wing, I laid him on the bed and played with his hair, until we both fell asleep.I woke up to Adrian coughing at dawn. That thin, dangerous hour where the world is quiet enough for mistakes – or assassins – to believe they won’t be noticed. His coughing wasn’t the soft, sleepy sound he makes when he’s shifting in bed – this was sharp and panicked. I sat up instantly, heart hammering in my ribs.“Adrian?”The door to my room was already opening. It was Lucian. He didn’t knock. He never does anyway. Especially when something was wrong.“What is it?” He asked, already moving toward the bed.“He can’t breathe–” My voice cracks as I

  • His Runaway Queen   Chapter 23: The Hale family

*Aria’s POV*The next day, I woke up back in my room. I was exhausted, mentally and physically. I got up and stretched, heading to the bathroom to take a shower, in hope that the tiredness would ease a bit.I took a shower quickly, brushed my teeth and went back out, putting a simple jeans and a sweater on.But danger was always there. It has a way of announcing itself – not with noise, but with pressure. With the subtle tightening of the air, the way footsteps multiply outside my wing without explanation. The house feels… alert.I’m standing by the window when the first message comes. A phone I haven’t used in years, one Lucian allowed me to keep only because it’s useless to anyone but ghosts, lights up on the bedside table.Unknown number: Two words.‘They know.’My fingers go cold.I don’t need to ask who ‘they’ are.My family has always known how to find what belongs to them.I close the curtains slowly and turn just as the door opens. Lucian steps in without ceremony, his presenc
