Silas’s pov

I let the silence simmer between us before he hacked a cough and started to talk.

“I was never the wrong person for you, Silas. I was always the right person. The only thing is, I didn’t really fit your narrative of who the right person was supposed to be. And that whole thing messed with your radar.”

“I’m confused.”

“It’s clear you’ve got unresolved issues with emery. And those unresolved issues that you had with him, it kind of got passed down to me. There’s the trust issues. There’s a few things that you had with him, you know, that you didn’t want to share with me. But let’s move on from that. We get married, but then you decide to be the monster in the relationship. Even when I had not done anything wrong to you, you were acting suspicious in our relationship.”

I laughed. “Oh so I’m the one acting suspicious. The money that was sent to different accounts, what about them?”

“And how sure are you that those were from me?”

“Don’t play that game with me man. I’m not a chi

Ken’s pov“Whoa,” he said over the phone. “Now that’s something you don’t hear every day. Isn’t Siler supposed to be your best bud or your sex partner or something?”I scoffed. “Still spying on me huh.”“I make it my daily duty to make sure that I am well informed in my client’s life.”“But I am not your client.”“Yeah, but you used to be my client. It’s very clear that I need to stay on top of things.”I sighed. “You know what you need to do. Just make it quick, clean, look like an accident.”“If I might ask, does this have anything to do with the court case that has brought this entire country to its knees?”“Saying it has brought this entire country to its knees is an overstatement, because this country has other things to do than a couple of billionaire squabbles.“Billionaire squabbles? Shall I tell you that the presidential race is in shambles because of this case?”I shook my head. “Let’s not think about the possibilities of me winning or losing or the country being on its knee

Ken’s pov“What is it? Spit it out.”“Well,” he said, while looking at his pad and tapping on it. “Your polls not only dropped, but you’ve been temporarily removed from the race.”“What?!” I yelled, to my feet. “Who would do such a thing?”“The board of the presidential candidates?”“What do you mean the board of the presidential candidates?”“The Senate, the… you know, the ministers. They say that the case is getting too much and too muddy. They have to call you in for questioning and help investigate this case.”This case was getting worse than I thought. I started to pace around, thinking of what my next excuse would be. “Set up a conference meeting and I want to talk to a lot of people.”“I would advise against that, sir.”“Why?”“I mean, my name is already in the mud. I just want to clear it.”“Sir. You can make things worse by setting up a conference meeting.”“This is unbelievable. One rat shows up and tries to destroy my life and everybody just runs with it. I know what to do.

Ken’s povHe didn’t say anything as I sighed and continued.“Like I said I’m giving you a chance here. No one is doing that. Why won’t you listen to me?”“I need to be alone now,” he said, turning away from me and taking a step away from the bars between us.“Look, Julian,” I said, getting in close to the cell so that he would know that he could trust me. “I’m not the bad guy here.”“Then why did you kill Emery?”“Again, with the accusations.”“You killed Emery.”I sighed. “Fine. I killed Emery. For the sake of posterity, I did. Yay. Yoo-hoo. Do you think you can be able to defend this in court? Do you have any evidence?”“My words are enough.”I scoffed. “You naive little brat. You think you can just show up in court, throw a few words around, and everybody will believe you… a… a pauper that they don’t know from anywhere. Someone who got married to Silas and is still slinking his way into Silas’s purse. That’s the person that they will pick over me? A presidential candidate who has d

Ken’s povI burst into the sheriffs office as the air in here smelled more expensive than the last time I had been here.I shut the door behind me as I saw the sheriff standing close to a new whiskey cabinet with a proud smile on his face.“I see you are lavishing the money I gave you. That’s good news. You’ve been paid. Have you done the work?”He smiled and pointed to the whiskey cabinet like it was his new project. “Well, what do you think?”“What do I think of what?” I asked, plain ignorance to his stupidity. I then walked to the seat by the window and sat down, crossing my legs while removing my gloves, as the winter wind was already getting to me. “Tell me that you’ve taken care of our little Julian problem.”“Yes, that,” he said, muttering under his breath before turning to me.“Speak up. I don’t have all day.”I looked out of the window to see the rest of the city moving about like nothing was happening. Then I turned to him. He was swirling his drink, the ice inside breaking

Ken’s povThe moment he was gone, I got up and sat down into my couch, rubbing my temple. I had failed to convince Silas to be on my side. What did I even think was going to happen after he had gone to talk with Julian? No, there was no way I was going to get Silas on my side with Julian still alive.I was going to move up the deadline. If Julian wasn’t going to give me an answer right now, he was as good as dead.Picking up my phone, I called the sheriff. “Hello, sir.”“Has he said anything?” I said in a curt manner, as he chuckled.“Relax. We gave him until tomorrow evening. I’m pretty sure by then he would have ample time to give us a reply. That would soothe your aching heart.”“I’m not here to play. Tell him to give me an answer right now or you can go ahead and do what I’m paying you to do.” I heard his chair creak like he was sitting up.“Sir, are you sure? Isn’t it a bit too suspicious? People would think you had a hand to do this.”“I don’t care. Get rid of him.”“Sir, I have

Silas’s povI got into my car and told my driver to take me straight to Ken’s penthouse. It didn’t take long before we reached there and I got out, slamming the door shut behind me.I walked into the building and took the elevator to his floor and throughout that time, I thought of what to do next. How would I approach the subject?I wasn’t going to sugarcoat it, that was for sure. Taking in deep breaths, I waited for the doors to open before stepping out into his floor. My mind read a lot of scenarios to me and I wondered what I would do to him if he threatened me.I got to his door and waited before knocking in a slow manner. The door opened with Ken in towels, smiling at me.“Hey, Silas, welcome. I wasn’t expecting you here.”“Move,” I said, pushing past him as I walked into his penthouse.I wasn’t here to admire it, but the penthouse was really good. I couldn’t lie; I would love to stay here myself, but I was here on official business. A business that was about to be very, very bl
