For sixteen years, Wren Voss has lived an ordinary life built on a guarded lie. He believes he is a Beta. He has forged records, a quiet job, and a suppressant he takes nightly. He knows only one rule about his past: never ask why his mother abandoned him or why she feared anyone discovering the truth. Then his suppressant fails. His hidden Omega nature awakens, revealing a scent powerful enough to expose the identity his mother spent years protecting. Wren isn't a Beta. He's the last surviving royal Omega of House Ilvaren, a bloodline the world believes was slaughtered sixteen years ago. Now enemies are hunting him. His only chance of survival is Kirill Voronov, the ruthless Alpha heir of the Voronov Bratva—the family Wren was told murdered his parents. Kirill offers him an impossible solution: marriage. An ancient treaty promises peace if the last Ilvaren heir marries the Voronov heir. But Wren refuses to become anyone's possession, especially that of the enemy who represents everything he has been taught to hate. Yet Kirill refuses to treat him like property. As danger forces them closer, distrust gives way to attraction and a bond neither can explain. Then Kirill discovers the records of the Ilvaren massacre were deliberately altered. Eleven pages are missing. The casualty count was falsified. And Wren's scent is older than the royal records themselves. Someone didn't simply hide the last royal Omega. Someone has been protecting him—or waiting for him. As enemies close in and the truth behind the massacre emerges, Wren must decide whether Kirill will destroy his freedom or become the man capable of protecting his life, his crown, and his heart. Because the royal family may not have died sixteen years ago. Someone lied. And now the last royal Omega has come home.

Chapter 1

chapter 1

"The suppressant failed."

Wren counted his pulse against the cold alley brick—four in, four out—waiting for the familiar, artificial calm to settle over his blood. It didn't come.

Instead, heat climbed his spine, a dark, suffocating fever unspooling from the base of his neck and spreading into his limbs.

His knees buckled, rough concrete scraping through his trousers as he dropped into the soot-stained alley.

For sixteen years, the bitter white pills he swallowed every evening had done their job. They flattened his biology into something quiet, manageable, and thoroughly uninteresting.

He was a Beta. He worked in a dusty shop three streets over, smelling of mildew, decayed leather, and yellowing paper. He was invisible, and invisible meant alive.

Now, the alley turned excruciatingly loud. The distant rumble of delivery trucks rattled his teeth; the hiss of rainwater dripping from rusty fire escapes sounded like tearing silk.

Underneath the city’s metallic stench, something new bloomed—sharp, rich, and raw.

Something *his*.

*Never let them smell what you are.*

His mother’s voice scraped through his memory, sixteen years dead.

He could still feel the terrifying tightness of her fingers around his wrists the night she dragged him through the downpour, the reek of ash clinging to her coat, the wild, frantic panic in her eyes before she shoved him toward a stranger and vanished into the fog.

He had spent his entire youth believing she was driven mad by fear.

He wasn't a Beta. The truth slammed into him with physical force. The heat tearing through his veins wasn't an illness—it was an awakening.

Footsteps closed in from both ends of the alley. Six men. They moved with a silent, practiced lethargy that spoke of military training, dark coats glistening with rain.

Heavy black steel glinted in the gloom. Guns, not questions. They weren't here to mug a paper merchant.

"Eleven days ago someone swapped your suppressants."

A woman stepped into the pool of yellow light under a buzzing streetlamp. Small, sharp-eyed, tailored in an immaculate charcoal suit, she looked entirely too calm for a person standing in front of six armed mercenaries.

"I'm Mira Aldric," she said, her tone as dry as bone. "You're the last heir of House Ilvaren. They're here to finish the job."

Wren forced his spine rigid, pressing his shoulder blades hard against the wet brick to hide the tremor in his legs. "I sell used paperbacks for a living."

"You smell like a dead bloodline standing up."

Before Wren could process the impossible claim, halogen light flooded the alley.

Headlights cut through the downpour as a black Rolls-Royce idled at the curb, its engine producing a deep, low hum that vibrated in Wren's teeth.

At the vehicle's appearance, the six men stepped back into the dark shadows, lowering their weapons in unison.

Mira didn't glance behind her. "One way out. Marriage. To Kirill Voronov."

The name hit Wren like ice water. "The family that killed my parents."

"Because you're the last Omega whose blood can end this war."

The rear door of the sedan swung open.

The man who stepped out didn't hurry. He didn't need to—the alley seemed to narrow around him, heavy with the suffocating weight of an Alpha whose authority was absolute.

Kirill Voronov was built like a weapon wrapped in dark cashmere, his jaw hard, his storm-grey eyes assessing the filth of the alley before settling on Wren.

Wren didn't think. Driven by pure, instinctual fury, he lunged forward, swinging his right fist straight for the Alpha's jaw.

Kirill caught his wrist mid-air without shifting his stance.

His hand was broad, warm, and utterly immobile, stopping Wren's strike an inch from target. He didn't flinch.

"There you are," Kirill said, his voice a low, gravelly rasp. "That's more like it."

Cedar. Smoke. Rain-dampened leather.

The scent rolled over Wren’s raw, unshielded senses. He hated his body for it—hated the traitorous beat in his chest that spiked at the proximity, hated the way his newly awakened Omega biology leaned into the pressure.

"Let go of me," Wren growled.

"If I wanted you dead, Voss, I'd have been five minutes later." Kirill didn't release him. His thumb shifted, pressing down firm and deliberate over the pounding pulse point in Wren's inner wrist. "Sign the treaty or die in an alley not knowing why. Pick fast."

Behind Wren, the sharp, metallic cock of a rifle broke the rain's pattern.

Kirill turned his palm upward, holding his hand out in the narrow space between them. It was an offering, but it carried the absolute weight of an ultimatum.

Wren stared at the open palm the way you look at a blade offered handle-first. Every instinct screamed that he was walking out of a firing squad and straight into a cage.

But a cage had bars you could break; a grave was just dirt. He reached out and grabbed Kirill's hand.

The bond hit like a door blown off its hinges.

It wasn't warmth—it was recognition, ancient and absolute, slamming straight through Wren’s chest. The impact shattered his breath.

Across from him, Kirill’s breath caught, just once, his fingers locking brutally hard around Wren’s as his eyes widened in sharp, unscripted shock.

"Done," Mira said from the shadows. "Blood-law.

He's bound."

Wren yanked his hand back with everything he had left. Kirill let him go a second too late, his fingers lingering on Wren's sleeve, his gaze pinned to Wren's face as if trying to re-evaluate every variable in the room.

"Get in the car," Kirill said. The flatness was back in his voice, but his pulse was visible in the heavy muscle of his neck.

Wren stood his ground, wiping rain from his jaw with the back of his hand, refusing to break eye contact. "Don't mistake survival for surrender. I'm not joining your family."

A dark, thin smile touched Kirill's lips. "Good. I have no interest in obedient husbands."

Wren turned, pulled open the door of the luxury sedan, and got in.

The war between their families had just become a marriage. Neither of them planned on surviving it.
