Jude’s POV

Power is best measured in the silence it commands.

The chamber was quiet—properly quiet, the kind forged by obedience and reinforced by stone walls older than most of the names whispered in the Veil. It wasn’t the hollow quiet of an empty room; it was the silence that came from knowing no one would dare break it without reason.

My desk was a slab of polished blackstone veined with silver, carved from a single block dragged out of the Hollow Mountains centuries ago. The surface was layered with documents—ledgers from my human holdings, sealed scrolls bearing the wax insignias of Houses I both trusted and tolerated, reports from the border provinces about supply lines, troop movements, and the shifting loyalties that came with the Tournament’s approach.

My eyes moved from seal to seal, reading not just the words but the intent behind them. In the Veil, language was always coded, and those who didn’t know how to read between the lines never lasted long.

Outside my door, the Va

  • His Straight Pet   Chapter 180

Jude’s POV“Dante—no!” I yell, shadows clashing with his possessed form, Raymond’s light ready behind me. The city street’s a damn mess—smashed cars, flickering lights, and that big-ass entity’s got Dante twisted, his eyes black, shadows turning sharp and wrong, slicing the air toward us. My heart’s pounding like a drum, ‘cause this is Dante, my old friend, and I can’t lose him—not after everything. “Stay back, sunshine!” I shout, but Raymond’s right there, his light burning bright, our bond humming like a lifeline.“Jude, we can save him!” Raymond says, voice hard but shaky, his light flaring like a torch. The entity in Dante hisses, “You’re weak!” and lunges, claws out. I dodge, shadows slamming into him, but it’s like hitting a wall—Dante’s strong, and this thing’s using his power. My arm’s bleeding from a scratch, pain burning, but I grit my teeth, ‘cause I ain’t letting it win. “We got this,” I growl, glancing at Raymond, his light giving me strength. The fight’s a nightmare—Dant

  • His Straight Pet   Chapter 179

Raymond’s POVWith my light blazing against the shadows tearing through the streets, I exclaim, "Entities are everywhere."Cars are smashed, windows are broken, and people are screaming uncontrollably as these Hollowlands creatures, complete with claws and glowing red eyes, emerge from the shadows like roaches. The city is a veritable war zone. With light and shadow battling inside of me and my skin buzzing like I'm about to blow up, my hybrid abilities are going haywire. Jude is right next to me, his hand locked on mine, his shadows whirling around like a furious storm. His voice is rough but firm, and our bond is so strong that I can feel his heartbeat in my chest as he yells, "Stay close, sunshine!""They're taking people, Jude!" I yell, gesturing to a man on the other side of the street, whose eyes are as black as coal and who is jerking like a shattered toy while something is riding him. My heart is thumping so painfully because this is bad, really bad. Calix's bullshit is still

  • His Straight Pet   Chapter 178

Jude’s POVAs Raymond's light pierces the mist, I growl, "These illusions are bullshit," as shadows rip at a phony Calix, his smug smile taunting me. The temple is a luminous labyrinth with eerie carvings, cracked stone walls, and choking-thick air. My heart is pounding because Raymond is trapped in his own nightmare next to me, and these fucking guardians are playing with our minds and hurling old pain like knives. "Sunshine, stay with me!" His light is the only thing keeping me sane in this mess, so I yell and reach for his hand.Although Raymond's eyes are wide and bright with his hybrid light, he is trembling and has trouble seeing. His voice breaks as he chokes out, "Jude, it's… my family," as if he's witnessing their death again. I take hold of his hand, drawing him back to me as our hot and strong bond takes over. I say in a rough, almost imploring voice, "Illusions lie—you're real." He blinks, meeting my eyes as his light flares and brushes my shadows. "The truth of our love,"

  • His Straight Pet   Chapter 177

Raymond’s POVI whisper, "The relic's calling me," and we walk hand in hand into the temple's radiance. Light and shadow are twisting inside me, drawing me toward this broken-up Seraphin temple in the middle of nowhere, and the air is thick and humming like a storm approaching. All of the broken stones and vines are softly glowing, almost alive. "Do you feel that, Jude? It's... powerful.Jude is standing next to me, shadows encircling him like a shield, and when he looks at me, his eyes are soft but sharp. His voice sounds rough, like he's chewed gravel, as he says, "Yeah, sunshine, I feel it." "This place is hearing from your blood. Remain near. He's holding my hand tightly, and our connection is so strong that I can practically hear his heartbeat. That vision—Calix's relic, pulsing with dark power—keeps pushing me forward even though I want to lean in and kiss him right here.Entering is like entering a dream. The enormous temple, with its tall pillars and strange carvings, was illu

  • His Straight Pet   Chapter 176

Jude’s POVWith Raymond's light supporting me, I growl, "That echo is Calix's hate," as shadows clash with its form. Broken cages, blood on the floor, and this shadow beast with glowing eyes and claws roaring as if Calix's soul were inside it—the guild hideout is a complete mess. Even though my heart is thumping like a drum, Raymond is by my side, his light burning bright, and our bond humming, keeping me grounded. "Remain alert, sunshine!" As I dodge a claw that tears through the air, I scream. The beast screams as Raymond's light strikes it, and he gives me a fierce yet terrified look. "Jude, it's strong!" he exclaims, his voice faltering but unwavering. He's fighting, his light blending with my shadows as if we were one, but I want to grab him and protect him from this thing. "We've got this!" I yell as the beast's side is torn by the shadows, but it moves quickly and slams me against a wall. I curse as blood pours from my mouth as pain erupts in my ribs. With Raymond's hand on my

  • His Straight Pet   Chapter 175

Raymond’s POV“This vision’s clear—the hideout’s underground,” I murmur, holding Jude’s hand, my heart racing like it’s going to break out of my chest. The city’s dark around us, streetlights flickering, air smelling like rain and rubbish. My hybrid powers are humming, light and shadow twisting inside me, and that vision—dark tunnels, Akira’s face, Selene’s laugh—won’t leave me alone. “Jude, she’s there. Akira’s in trouble.”Jude’s eyes narrow, shadows wrapping around his hands like they’re itching to fight. “Then we get her out,” he adds, voice all gravel and rage. “But you stay close, sunshine. No hero bullshit.” He’s enraged, not at me, but at the guild, at Selene, at everything trying to rip us apart. I nod, swallowing hard, because I’m afraid, but his hand in mine makes me feel like we can accomplish anything. “I’m scared, but we got this,” I say, trying to seem tough. He looks at me, eyes softening just a bit. “Always—my light,” he adds, and it’s like a promise, hitting me squar
