~Drey’s POV~
~The previous day~ “What do you mean Lillian?” I asked James, who became more inquisitive than I expected. “I only asked for a fucking lawyer James!! Why do you like butting into my personal life!?.” My temper rose to hear him mentioning that bitch’s name. I only see Lillian as a toy who I can call whenever I need some alone time. But for a wife? Hell fucking no!! “I’m sorry Boss… It’s just that I.. I don’t know who else you might have in mind to fit the role of a wife. I just thought……” James tried to explain himself. “Stop thinking and do what I asked you.” I roughly interrupted him. James stood up to leave my office, his face was laced with disappointment. I have never yelled at him like that in a very long time. So yeah I think I outdid it this time. “Erm… hold on. I’m .. I’m….. “ I let out a huge breath. “You know I don’t like hearing that bitches name. She’s not the one I have in mind okay? Never would she be!” I reluctantly said, rubbing my hands through my hair. “I won’t do that again. I’m sorry for being too forward.” He smiled partially and walked out the door. I clenched my fist very hard, ready to hit the table with anger but my phone buzzed in my pants. “Goddammit!! Who the hell is this?” I yelled as I put my hands in my pocket to take my phone out. I was already frustrated enough today. I checked the screen and there it was. Speak of the devil. “Lillian” I aggressively groaned. I angrily pressed decline. She was the last person’s voice I wanted to hear right now. Why was she calling me? She doesn’t have that right. I heard a little argument coming from the door and just then, it was wide open. “You can’t go in ma’am, Mr. Drey is having a meeting.” My receptionist argued with a lady at the door who was forcefully entering. Before I could react or say something, the lady came in dressed in a very sexy velvet dress, and her hair in a messy bun. “Why are you not picking up my calls, Drey?” she yelled at me. “Oh my God! Just when I thought today wouldn’t get any crazier.” I was getting provoked already. “Melissa you’re so fucking fired!” I shouted at my receptionist. She left, shutting the door behind her. “What are you doing here Lillian,” I asked, looking at her with so much anger. “What do you mean? Drey I missed you. You know how much I love and care about you. And you ghosting me hurt me so much I had to reach out but you were ignoring all my calls and texts.” She whined as she approached me touching my face like I was some little child. “I even… reached out to your secretary but he said you didn’t want to talk to me. Why? Did I do something wrong?“ She asked but now her hands gracefully caressed my chest. Even though I wanted nothing to do with her after the last. She just had a way of calming me which was what I liked about her. “I’m sorry about the last time.” She apologized giving me a puppy look. “You don’t have to do that okay? It’s disgusting.” She ignored me and leaned in for a kiss. I turned my face away, turning down her kiss and pushing her slightly off me. “You tried to take my watch off me which I clearly instructed you not to.” I scolded her “I’m sorry I didn’t know it was from your….. mom.” she nervously apologized. “Don’t…Touch…My…Watch…Ever…Again!! Do you understand me? I asked, giving her a stern look in the eye. “ Noted” she happily said, jumping in for a hug. I hugged her not because I forgave her but.., why not?? ******* A few minutes later, there was a knock on the door. “Who is that again?” I let out a sigh. “Sir Mr Williams is here,” James said as he walked through the door with Mr Williams by his side. “Oh!….. you have to go now. I have important things to handle.” I said to Lillian who had a frown on her face. She had no option but to leave. She picked up her black Birkin bag from the couch where she dropped it and wore her red bottom heels leaving my office with pride. James couldn’t help but stare at her like he was disgusted by her presence. “Are we having this discussion or not?” I asked because all their eyes were on Lillian as she walked past them. “Eh…Ehem, Sorry about that sir.” James apologized as he adjusted his tie. “Mr Drey, James already filmed me in on what you suggested and I came as fast as I could to finalize it.” My lawyer Mr Williams stated. “Have your seat, let's talk. “ I instructed. “So, James told me you had some…..” Mr Williams started. “ Listen to me before you talk okay? “ I completely cut him off and he nodded in response. ” I want to get into a contract marriage and it has to be in my favor.” Both Mr Williams and James nodded in unison. “ I… have someone in mind already, someone I know I can easily control and manipulate without having issues.” I continued. “ Sorry to cut you off Mr Drey but are you talking about the lady that just walked out of her? Because I don’t think…” Mr Williams expressed. “ I didn’t ask for your opinion Williams just fucking listen to me.” I rudely shut him up “She’s a bartender at one of my hotels. And from the look of things she’s desperate for money. It’s super easy to manipulate her. And no, you can’t object!” I firmly ordered. From their faces, I could see they didn’t agree with my choice of person. But I thought of it and she was right. I am also desperate to put all these allegations behind me. This was the easiest and fastest way of dealing with it. “Now I need you to get the paperwork work done quickly and sent to me first thing in the morning. I'll send the required conditions to add to it“ I concluded. James hesitated. “Are you sure about this, Boss? She’s… I mean you know nothing about her. For all I care she could be unpredictable.” I met his gaze, unwavering. “That’s exactly why I want her. She’s perfect.” I could see the disappointment in their faces but then I dismissed them. Just as they were about to leave, my phone buzzed. A text from a private number. I clenched my jaw and opened the message. The text is written in capital letters. “MARRYING HER WON’T SAVE YOU, DREY. IF ANYTHING….. IT’S GOING TO COMPLETELY DESTROY YOU.” I stared at the phone, my heart pounding. I don’t usually get scared of threats but this?….. Who the hell knows about this already?Drey’s Pov“Put the gun down and we will discuss this,” I muttered, trying to keep my voice even before sliding Lucy behind me. “No, no you'll listen to me!” Lilian yelled, using the gun to smack the side of her head like she wanted to wake herself. A knot tied in my stomach. She acted like a crazy person and the gun in her head wasn’t helping. “You can't be pregnant for me, I haven't seen you in months.” My throat craved for air as I forced the words out. “Just stop all this nonsense,” I tried to sound steady so it wouldn't provoke her more. “I knew you'd say that.” Just then, she shrugged off her fur coat. Her stomach was revealed. It was round—She was indeed pregnant. The camera light flickered, stuttering like it couldn’t keep up with the chaos. Whispers circulated through the crowd, every eye cutting into me sharp like a razor. “Lilian…” I swallowed then quickly realized saying her name wouldn’t help this situation. It only confirms I know her and could be responsible. ”T
Lucy Pov“Welcome Mrs Drey” “Thank you” I said, while receiving a glass of champagne from the server at the door. “Just keep your head up and bright just like you do,” Drey said, as he held my hand while we walked into the hall. It's been a week since we came from the hospital. Drey has recovered but not fully. It's only a fool that would give Drey orders. After ignoring the doctor's orders of a one-month bed rest, Drey decided to come out tonight for this charity gala. His temper has reduced a bit towards me. He always checks on me before going forward to breakfast. “Oh look who it is. It's the internet's favorite couple.” A man with a smile too wide to be real stepped in front of us. My mouth stretched into a smile, but my eyes were busy looking for the nearest restroom to escape to. Although I've accompanied Drey to a lot of galas and meetings, I still haven't gotten used to it. The shifted attention to me because I'm important in the room. “Hello Mr Byers. Thank you for co
Lucy's PovThe beeping wouldn’t stop. It clenched to my ears, louder than my own heartbeat. Shortly after, nurses rushed in the door, followed by the doctor. Their voices blended into a blur of orders I couldn't process. “BP dropping—get the crash cart!”“Move, move!”I gently pushed him by the side, so they could check him well. Drey's face was drained of all color, lips parted but still. My heart punched my chest, ready to burst out. He was okay just a few seconds ago and now he's crashing. My whole world felt crumbling. Watching Drey’s condition worsen keeps giving me flashbacks of my mom. After a while, the beeping subsided but the look on the doctor's face didn't. He snapped the gloves off his palm and walked to me. “This is more than we suspected,” he sighed. “I'm afraid he was poisoned.” “Poisoned? How?” I asked sharply, tilting my head to stare at Drey who was fully unconscious now.“The knife he was stabbed with —it was covered with some kind of poison. It has entered
~Drey’s Pov~ The continuous beeping of machines woke me up. I had an instant feeling of headache as I tried to open my eyes. I realized I was in the hospital.I squinted my eyes before opening them wide. I tried to recall what happened but my memory was foggy. As I turned my head to the side, I felt a hand on my palm, and as I turned to check, it was Lucy. She was fast asleep, her head slightly tilted, facing me. Her beautiful morning face always captivates me. She was sleeping peacefully and I didn't want to wake her. And then a flash of memory went over my head. I placed my hand on my stomach and I felt a sharp pain. I was attacked. But it happened so fast I couldn't see the person’s face or even fight him off. The last thing I remember was Lucy's face, the fear in her face, and tears sliding down her cheeks to my face. I will never forget that face. I tried to sit up gently but I mistakenly woke Lucy up. She woke up in shock and excitement on her cheeks as she saw me up. “
Lucy PovI was in shock. We kissed. I don’t want to feel this way. Not now. Not even for Drey. But this night made me feel somewhat closer to him. I understand why he’s always so cold. The pressure he gets from his father was taking a toll on him. All those lawsuits weren’t his fault. It’s all because of his manipulative father. I didn’t move as we kissed. The sounds from the city outside felt distant. Quiet. It felt like we were the only ones on earth. Like the world has paused just for this moment. But just as I let myself fall deeper into the kiss, he withdrew himself. “I shouldn’t have done that..I’m…sorry” he said, his eyes away from mine, blinking multiple times and suddenly, his cold demeanor came back. “Take your bag, we’re going home.” He ordered. His voice was sharp and cold. I immediately felt small in the office. My heart was pierced by his attitude. He couldn’t even look at me. He acted like he was disgusted by my presence. We walked out of his office, heading t
Drey’s POV“Goodnight Lucy,” I muttered. The words came out and echoed in my head as she left my office. I couldn't believe it. I've never talked to her like that. Not even to anyone else. My conversations with her always end with me being cold and dismissive. But not tonight. My father’s words still clung to me, sharp and heavy, the way they always did. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t shake the ache in my chest or the burn in my jaw from grinding my teeth. Vulnerability wasn’t something I ever allowed, yet tonight it slipped through like a crack in glass.I tried so hard not to be mean to Lucy but her face looked so innocent and scared.I dragged my hand across my face and leaned back in my chair. My chest felt heavy, not because of Lucy, but because of the mess my dad always put this company in. I loosened my tie, staring at the files still spread across my desk. My pen was lying sideways, ink drying at the tip. For the first time in a long time, I didn’t want to work. I
