Chapter 1

Author: Starlet
“Vivian, Damian’s probably just overwhelmed with work.

“When he gets back, I’ll talk to him and make sure he apologizes.”

Mrs. Carter didn’t even look up. All her attention remained on the manicure she was getting.

As far as she was concerned, it didn’t matter how upset I became. I was already pregnant.

If anything, she seemed pleased that Sophie was around.

After all, Sophie had started calling her “Mom” long before I ever had.

As his fiancée, I was probably nothing more than someone expected to give the Carter family an heir.

A bitter smile touched my lips as I quietly turned to leave.

“I’ve decided to step aside and let Damian be with Sophie.”

Mrs. Carter didn’t notice me leaving.

She hadn’t even listened to what I said.

“Vivian, Damian is the CEO of a big company. Sometimes business requires him to flirt and play along.

“Everything he does is for the future you’re building together.

“You need to be more understanding. Even if Sophie disappears, there’ll always be another woman. If you get angry every time, you’ll only ruin your health.

“Besides, you’re pregnant now. Who else would want you but Damian?

“Trust me. I’ve been through all this before.”

She continued talking to herself long after I had left the villa.

I rested a hand gently on my stomach.

Because I was pregnant, they thought they could treat me however they wanted.

They believed the baby had tethered me to them like a kite on a string. No matter how hard I struggled, I could never escape their grasp.

But I was about to cut that string for good.

When I got home, I lay in bed and cried until I eventually fell asleep.

Sometime later, Damian returned.

Still half asleep, I felt him pull me into his arms. Then he fastened a necklace around my neck.

“A wedding gift. Do you like it?”

I looked down.

I had to admit, the necklace he’d bought in Paris was beautiful.

If I hadn’t already seen it on Sophie’s social media, I might’ve been thrilled.

But Sophie had posted six necklaces.

Damian had given me the cheapest one, the one she’d liked least.

In the comments beneath her post, Sophie had written:

“This $180,000 necklace was just a free gift that came with The Blue Lover. I would’ve thrown it away if Damian hadn’t told me to keep it.”

The necklace around my neck was nothing more than a freebie that had come with a designer masterpiece worth over ten million dollars.

I quietly took it off.

“You even remembered to bring home Sophie’s freebie for me. How thoughtful.”

Damian stiffened behind me, and his voice turned cold.

“It was all for show. Why are you being so petty?”

I answered flatly, “You don’t have to go to so much trouble. What you do has nothing to do with me.”

His temper flared.

“We’re about to get married, and you’re still determined to make a scene?

“Do you even want this wedding anymore?”

Before I got pregnant, Damian would never have dared speak to me that way.

But now his meaning was obvious.

I was pregnant, so I should behave.

No one else would want me anyway.

Anger rose in my throat. I was about to tell him the truth when he stormed out and slammed the door so hard the sound shook the room.

The next morning, I woke to find Damian already sitting beside the bed.

My body went rigid.I’d believed I was completely over him, but the moment I saw him, all my anger came rushing back.Nolan seemed to sense my tension. He gently patted my hand.“It’s okay. I’m right here.“But it’s time to put an end to this.”He looked into my eyes, giving me a strength I’d never known before.I understood what he meant and nodded.Nolan led me over to Damian. The moment Damian saw me, he shouted desperately.“Vivian, you finally agreed to see me. I know I was wrong. I’ve regretted what I did every single day.“I’ve changed. From now on, I’ll give you all my love. Please forgive me and come back.“I can’t live without you.”His words grated on my ears.I frowned and was about to respond when Nolan spoke first.“Damian, I spared the Carter family for your father’s sake. How dare you show your face in front of Vivian again?“Didn’t I warn you that your family is paying the price for what you did to her?“Or did you think my warning meant nothing?”His

I didn’t dare say another word. I simply stood there, waiting for Nolan to pass judgment. He answered another call.I couldn’t make out what the person on the other end was saying. My mind was consumed by one thought.I was doomed. After what felt like forever, Nolan finally hung up.He turned and gave me a cool look.“Given the serious impact yesterday’s incident has had on the company, we’ve decided…”My blood ran cold.I genuinely loved this job. It had helped me rediscover my confidence and sense of purpose.“Mr. Quinn, I’m sorry. I never meant for any of this to happen. Please don’t fire me. I’ll work myself to the bone for the company.”“I didn’t say I was firing you. The company has come up with a solution. I’m just not sure whether you’ll agree to it.”Relief surged through me.“I’ll agree. Of course I will. Whatever it is, I’ll do it.”A flicker of delight flashed through Nolan’s eyes. His expression, however, remained as cold as ever.“Good. Starting today, you

“Vivian, I know I was wrong. Come back to me.”Damian’s confidence made me sick.“Do you honestly think you’re the only man I could ever marry? Take a good look at yourself. What do you have that could possibly compare to my boyfriend?“Your family? Your abilities? Your loyalty? Or what you can do in bed?“Honestly, Mr. Carter, Nolan beats you in every possible way.”Damian’s face darkened, but he gritted his teeth.“I don’t believe you.”His shameless refusal to accept reality made my stomach turn. Before I could figure out how to respond, Nolan’s arm suddenly tightened around my waist. The next second, his lips came down on mine.I froze briefly. Then something stirred in my chest, and I began kissing him back. The kiss lasted a full minute before we finally pulled apart.I gave Damian, still kneeling on the floor, one last cold look. Then I slipped my arm through Nolan’s and headed toward his office.Damian trembled, but he still refused to give up.He rushed after us

For years, I’d loved Damian with everything I had.I’d given him my entire youth, only to end up with nothing. But now, I was ready to start over.It was time to find the woman I used to be.After returning home, I cut every trace of Damian out of my life. Then I spent the next six months recovering.Even my doctor said I’d been dangerously close to suffering uterine prolapse and permanent infertility after everything my body had been through.Once I recovered, my family helped me find a job. That job dragged me into another whirlwind, but this time, things felt different. Not long after I joined the company, a new CEO was brought in.His name was Nolan Quinn.Everyone in the office had a nickname for him.Satan.Nolan was ruthless and efficient. If he announced a new policy in the morning, he expected it to be implemented by that afternoon. He was also so cold that one look from him could freeze a person solid.Everyone’s workload skyrocketed.Fortunately, so did our p

The moment I said it, Damian and Sophie both froze.A flash of wild delight lit Sophie’s eyes. Her expression barely changed, but I knew exactly what she was thinking. With my baby gone, she might finally have a chance to become Mrs. Carter.Even if that didn’t happen, she could at least stay by Damian’s side a little longer. The longer she stayed, the more money she could get out of him. With Damian’s wealth and status, it was no wonder so many women found him irresistible.None of that mattered to me.Damian had been the only thing I cared about. But the man I’d once loved was gone.I turned to leave, but I’d barely taken a few steps when Damian grabbed me.His eyes were bloodshot, and he looked almost feral.“What did you just say, Vivian? You’re lying, aren’t you?“I’ve let you get away with too much. Now you’re willing to lie about something like this just to get my attention?”Without a word, I pulled the paperwork from my abortion out of my bag and threw it in his fa

  • His Unspoken Promise   Chapter 4

I was so weak that every few steps left me desperate to sit down and rest.As I struggled toward the door, Sophie came downstairs. She was dressed to the nines, looking fresh and radiant.I was deathly pale, barely able to stay on my feet.We were the same age, yet I looked decades older. All because of the same man.The moment Sophie saw me, she strode over with a smug look.“What, are you still waiting around for Mr. Carter to come home and comfort you?“He’s already left for work. If you have something to say, I might be generous enough to pass it along.”I gave her a cold glance. Why did even she assume I was putting on an act just to get Damian’s attention?“What makes you think you can speak for Damian?”She immediately looked smug.“Of course I can. I’m his assistant and the woman he loves. Whether it’s work, romance, or sex, I can give him everything he needs. You’re nothing but an incubator.”I regarded her calmly.“It won’t be long before another woman comes al
