Kian’s POV

"We found him, Kian. Or at least, we found where he was hiding."

Detective Miller’s voice was the first thing to break the silence. It cut right through the low hum of the computer servers in the basement. I didn't turn around at first. I stayed staring at the wall of monitors, watching the same grainy video of the car crash over and over again. My eyes hurt. They were dry and red from two days without sleep. The skin under my eyes felt heavy, like I was wearing a mask made of lead.

  • His Wife On Paper    Chapter 220

Eliora's POV "Maybe a dinner would help," Kian said, three nights after the disaster in the living room, his voice carrying the particular optimism of someone who hadn't yet learned that some fires didn't go out with more fuel. "Get them in a room together properly. With food. Structure. Maybe it'll smooth things over.""Or it'll make it worse," I said."It won't.""You don't know that.""I think if we just give them the chance to actually talk—""They've had decades to talk, Kian."He looked at me like I was missing the point, which I probably was, in his eyes, and I let it go because some part of me wanted to believe he was right. Because hope was easier than the alternative, and because watching him try to fix things had always been one of the things I loved about him, even when it didn't work.---The dinner started fine. Both women on their best behavior, the boys seated between them like small, oblivious buffers, Ezra narrating his entire week to anyone who'd listen and Noah

  • His Wife On Paper    Chapter 219

Eliora's POV "Is this for me?" Noah held the book carefully, both hands, the way he held everything he considered valuable."It is," Lydia said, settling into the armchair with the kind of ease that still surprised me sometimes, how natural this had become, her in my house, in my chair, with my children climbing toward her without hesitation. "I thought you might like it. It's about a fox who's afraid of the dark.""I'm not afraid of the dark," Noah said."No," Lydia said, smiling. "I didn't think you would be. But the fox is, and he learns not to be. I thought that might be nice."Noah considered this with his usual seriousness, then climbed up onto the arm of her chair and opened the book himself, flipping to the first page with the careful concentration he gave most things."Read it to him," I said. "He won't ask, but he wants you to.""I'm asking," Noah said, without looking up."There he is," Lydia said, laughing, and pulled him gently into her lap.Ezra, who had been hovering

  • His Wife On Paper    Chapter 218

Eliora's POV "Daddy's home!" Ezra's shout echoed through the hallway before the front door had even fully closed, his feet already pounding toward it."Wait for me," I called, though I knew it was pointless. Noah, beside me, didn't run. He always watched first, decided, then moved with purpose. By the time he reached the hallway, walking rather than sprinting, Ezra was already attached to Kian's leg."Hi Daddy," Noah said, holding both arms up.Kian crouched down immediately, scooping him into the same hug as Ezra, and for a second we were all tangled together in the hallway, Ezra wrapped around his neck, Noah's small hand resting flat against his father's chest like he was checking something was still there, me with my arm around all of them at once."This is a lot of love at once," Kian said, laughing into Ezra's hair."You deserve it," I said. "How was work?""Fine." He kissed my forehead, then my lips, brief and warm, before turning his attention to Noah, who was still holding o

  • His Wife On Paper    Chapter 217

Kian's POV "What time is it?" Eliora's voice came out thick with sleep, muffled against the pillow."Doesn't matter," I said, already moving toward the bassinet where Noah's cry had gone from a small complaint to a full demand in about four seconds flat. "Stay there.""Kian—""I've got him." I lifted him, settled him against my shoulder, and his cry softened slightly just from the change in position. "Go back to sleep."She didn't argue. That was new. Three weeks ago she would have insisted on getting up too, on doing it together, on not letting me handle it alone. Now she just murmured something that might have been thank you and turned back into the pillow, and I took that as a sign that whatever we were building here was actually working.I checked the clock on my way out of the room.Three forty seven. This was the fourth night this week I'd seen three forty seven exactly, like Noah had developed an internal preference for that specific minute and intended to keep it.---Downst

  • His Wife On Paper    Chapter 216

Eliora's POV "Slowly," Kian said, one hand hovering near my elbow as I came through the front door, the car seat with Noah in it balanced carefully in his other arm. "There's no rush.""I'm fine," I said. "I gave birth four days ago, not yesterday.""Four days is recent.""Kian.""I'm just saying." He set the car seat down gently on the hallway table and turned to look at me properly, "You can sit down the second you want to.""I want to see the house first," I said. "I haven't been inside it in four days. It feels longer."The house smelled like Mrs Halloway's cooking and something floral — she'd put flowers in the hallway, the kitchen, even one small vase on the stairs, like she'd decided the whole house needed to announce that something good had happened.Ezra came thundering down the stairs the second the door closed behind us."Is he here? Is he actually here?" He skidded to a stop in front of the car seat and peered in. Noah was asleep, one fist near his face, completely unboth

  • His Wife On Paper    Chapter 215

Eliora's POV "Is he asleep?" Ezra stood at the door with Mrs Halloway's hand on his shoulder, his eyes already moving past me to the bundle in my arms. "I want to see him properly. Not just a peek.""He's asleep," I said. "Come closer."Mrs Halloway gave his shoulder a small squeeze and stepped back, letting him cross the room on his own. He walked slowly. He stopped beside the bed and looked. For a long moment he said nothing. He just looked at Noah's face, scrunched, sleeping, one fist near his cheek, with the focused concentration he gave everything important. His eyes moved over every part of him like he was taking inventory."He's small," he said finally."He's exactly the right size," I said. "All babies start out this small.""I wasn't this small.""You absolutely were," Kian said from the chair, smiling.Ezra looked unconvinced. He leaned in a little closer. "Can I touch him?""Gently," I said. "Just his hand."He reached out one finger carefully and touched the back of Noah'

  • His Wife On Paper    Chapter 28

Eliora's POVThe city noise seemed to fade into a hum as I stepped out of my dead car. The heat of the asphalt radiated through the soles of my shoes, but I was focused on the man standing before me. Up close, he was even more striking. The black vintage muscle car behind him looked like a beast ke

Eliora's POVThe sound of the shattered porcelain against the kitchen tiles seemed to echo through the entire villa. I stood frozen, the steam from the spilled herbal tea rising around my ankles, but I couldn't feel the heat. All I could feel was the icy blood rushing through my veins as I stared a

Eliora's POVThe fluorescent lights of the Monroe Group headquarters always felt a little colder as the sun went down. I had spent the day buried in documents, trying to ignore the way my skin still felt hypersensitive from the days spent at the penthouse. I was exhausted, but my mind was a chaotic

  • His Wife On Paper    Chapter 30

Eliora's POVI stared at the screen of my phone, my breath hitching in my throat. The three little dots appeared, dancing rhythmically as the anonymous sender typed a reply. Every second felt like an hour. Around me, the city hummed with life, taxis honking, people laughing in the distance, the sme
