Kyra’s pov

The sun crept slowly through the floor-to-ceiling windows, soft golden light spilling into the living room. The once-dim room now held the warmth of morning, the sounds of birds outside stirring the stillness into something almost sacred.

I blinked awake, my lashes fluttering as my eyes adjusted to the light. My head was still tucked under Zaire's chin, one arm curled against his chest, the other hand resting over my small bump like it belonged there. Like *I* belonged there.

  • His accidental surrogate    Court part 1

Kyra’s pov The ride to the courthouse was quiet. The city hummed around us, but inside the sleek black SUV, there was only the soft shuffle of papers and the occasional deep exhale. Zaire's hand rested lightly on mine, a silent anchor in the storm. Outside the courthouse, a crowd of reporters milled near the entrance, their cameras glinting in the morning sun. Flashbulbs popped occasionally, though Zaire and I barely noticed. Victor stepped out of the car first, adjusting his tie with a calm, professional precision. "Remember," he said quietly as we followed, "stay calm, answer only what's asked, and don't let them rattle you. You two have the facts and that's what matters." I nodded, gripping Zaire's hand tighter. My stomach fluttered with nerves, but my resolve was unwavering. Inside the courthouse, the air smelled faintly of polished wood and old leather. Court clerks moved briskly, shuffling papers, calling names. Zaire and I followed Victor down the polished corridor, ou

  • His accidental surrogate    Starting now

Zaire’s pov **Friday, Late Afternoon** The sun’s already low, throwing long shadows across the living room rug. Kyra’s next to me on the couch. House is finally quiet after a day of unpacking baby stuff and… other stuff. Feelings. But for once, we actually feel like we’re on the same side of it. Then my phone buzzes hard against the side table. Victor. I tap it. "Hey, Vic." His voice is all business. "Zaire, we got an update. The court moved up the hearing for the clinic's motion. It's now scheduled for Monday morning, 9AM sharp." My brow pulls together before I can stop it. "Monday? That's sooner than we expected." "Yeah, the judge wants to fast-track it. You and Kyra need to be prepared. Documents, statements, everything. It's going to be intense." I glance at Kyra. She’s listening, quiet, but I see her shoulders shift. Victor keeps going. "I'm briefing the rest of the legal team tonight and will send you the prep materials by tomorrow. Kyra should be ready to a

  • His accidental surrogate    Family means Ohana

Kyra’s pov**Saturday morning arrived with golden sunlight and a charged kind of energy thrumming in the walls. It was the day. Zaire’s family was flying in. Celeste, Rome, and their mother. And this time, it wasn’t a casual visit. They were coming to meet me. I had woken up earlier than usual. I lay in bed for a few minutes, staring at the ceiling, one hand resting reverently on my belly. It was still early in the pregnancy, but I’d started to show just enough that my body reminded me daily that this was happening. I was becoming a mother. And the most astonishing, humbling truth was this: I wasn’t alone. From down the hall, I could already smell breakfast. Warm, buttery, and impossibly comforting. I slid out of bed, threw on a robe, and followed the scent like it was guiding me home. The house was alive. Zaire’s playlist was playing low on the speakers, the kitchen was bathed in morning light, and the chef was plating fluffy eggs, roasted potatoes, and warm biscuits that

  • His accidental surrogate    Finding us

Kyra’s pov***The mid-morning sun was warm and unwavering, casting golden rays over the backyard of Zaire’s estate. Birds chirped lazily in the trees, and the sound of water trickling from the edge of the infinity pool blended into the quiet hum of peace that seemed to settle over everything. I stepped out onto the patio in a soft, lilac swimsuit cover-up, my hair pulled into a high bun. I held a large tumbler of fruit-infused water, my sandals slapping gently against the stone as I moved toward the lounge chair. My pulse was already a little unsteady, and I hadn’t even seen him yet. Zaire was already out there. Shirt off, swim trunks low on his waist, reclined in one of the loungers with his sunglasses on and a small speaker playing low R&B in the background. He looked up as I approached, slowly removing his glasses. His gaze held on me. Not casual. Intentional. I slid the cover-up off and revealed a simple, elegant one-piece bathing suit pale mauve with thin straps, the fabr

I blinked awake, my lashes fluttering as my eyes adjusted to the light. My head was still tucked under Zaire's chin, one arm curled against his chest, the other hand resting over my small bump like it belonged there. Like *I* belonged there. Zaire's breathing was slow and steady beneath me, his arm still wrapped protectively around my shoulders. His legs were tangled with mine, our bodies still locked in the same position we’d surrendered to hours ago. I didn’t move at first. Didn’t want to. There was a comfort in the way he held me, like I was safe to let my guard down in his space. My mind was still hazy from sleep, but the softness of the moment made my chest feel full. Heavy with something dangerous and sweet. Zaire stirred ju

  • His accidental surrogate    Comfort

Kyra’s pov***The evening had settled softly over the house, the hum of distant city sounds fading into a gentle hush. I sat cross-legged on the living room rug, flipping through a baby name book, my face thoughtful. The pages were starting to blur together. Amara. Elise. Nia. Nothing felt like *her* yet. I heard Zaire before I saw him. His footsteps were always quiet, but I’d gotten used to listening for them. He came down from his study, and the warmth of the moment pulled him closer. He settled down beside me without a word, letting the silence speak. It wasn’t awkward. It hadn’t been in a while. With him sitting there, shoulder almost touching mine, the house felt less big. Less empty. After a few pages, I looked up, catching his gaze. A small smile tugged at my lips. "You ever think about what kind of dad you want to be?" I asked quietly. Zaire paused, considering. I watched his face. He always got this look when I asked something real. Like he was actually th
