Chapter 6

Bailey's POV

A cold beat stretched between us. Most people in my position would have panicked, stammered, or tried to shrink into the floorboards. Instead, I slowly tilted my head, looking him dead in the eye with a flat, bored expression that took every ounce of my self-control to maintain.

“I ran a background check on your private holdings the second your driver handed me that tablet,” I said smoothly, keeping my voice completely even. “I’m about to sign my freedom away to a man who claims to hand out ten million dollars like loose pocket change. Did you honestly expect me not to check who holds my leash, Mr. Crest?”

Raven stared at me, searching my face for any crack in my armor, any flicker of fear. “You bypassed high-level corporate encryption keys in less than thirty seconds.”

“Desperate people learn quick survival skills,” I replied, extending my hand toward him for the physical document. “Or would you prefer a naive, helpless wife who doesn't even know where her husband’s money comes from?”

For a second, the tension in the room grew heavy enough to snap bone. Then, the corner of Raven's jaw relaxed just a fraction. He pulled the sleek silver pen from his vest pocket and handed it to me alongside the thick paper contract. I signed my name in clean, bold ink across the final page, handed the pen back, and walked out into the cool night before he could press me any further.

Two hours later, after taking a long, winding route through dark alleys and switching taxis twice to throw off any physical tailors from Crest Holdings, I unlocked the squeaky front door to my cramped apartment in the Old District.

The small space was dark and quiet. Maya was fast asleep in the tiny bedroom down the hall, her soft, steady breathing drifting through the thin wooden door. I stood near the entrance for a moment, letting the stillness settle over my exhausted body. This run-down living room was where my family had bled, cried, and fought to survive ever since my father was taken from us eight years ago.

And now, I was walking into the lair of the very people connected to that tragedy.

I walked over to the old wooden wardrobe in my bedroom, reached into the dark corner, and pressed a small hidden latch behind the back panel. A secret door popped open with a quiet click, revealing my custom, unlisted black laptop, a machine completely disconnected from any standard commercial network.

I sat on the edge of my narrow mattress, booted up the terminal, and initiated a dark-web encrypted voice channel.

“You're late, Boss,” a rough, voice rasped through my earpiece.

Viktor. My most trusted operative, built like a brick wall, who had spent the last five years helping me build our secret intelligence network from the ground up.

“Raven Crest just finalized the ten-million-dollar contract marriage,” I whispered, keeping my voice low so I wouldn't wake my sister. “An oceanfront villa, full security, and a guaranteed kidney donor for my mother at Saint Jude's.”

“That's a massive lifeline, Bailey,” Viktor said quietly. “Too massive for a man who claims to barely know you. What’s his game?”

“Guilt,” I answered, glancing at the faded photograph of my father resting on my bedside table. “He thinks he’s paying off a debt for the hit-and-run eight years ago. But the private message you sent me at The Vault interrupted me right before I signed. What did you uncover about Frank Crest?”

“I spent the last two hours digging deep into Saint Jude's private database,” Viktor replied, his tone turning heavy with grave concern. “The kidney donor match for your mother wasn't added to the emergency list tonight by Raven's medical team. Frank Crest, Raven's corrupt uncle maneuvered your mother onto that priority list three weeks ago using an offshore shell company.”

My blood ran cold. “Frank Crest? Why would Raven's uncle care whether my mother lives or dies?”

“Because Frank laid a trap,” Viktor explained, the sound of his keyboard clicking softly in the background. “Frank has been watching your family long before Raven ever looked up your name. He didn't save your mother out of mercy, Bailey. He placed her on that list to lure Raven into taking action. He wanted Raven to find you.”

“It’s an execution trap,” I said, the grim realization settling over me like lead. “Frank knows about the crash eight years ago. He wants Raven to marry the daughter of the man his best friend killed. Once the marriage is sealed and made public, Frank will leak the old crash files to the press, frame Raven for a massive corporate cover-up, and force the board to strip Raven of his CEO position forever.”

“Exactly,” Viktor confirmed grimly. “Frank is using your mother’s life as a hook, Raven’s guilt as bait, and you as the final weapon to destroy his nephew.”

I closed my eyes, taking a long, deep breath to steady the surging emotions inside my chest. For eight long years, I had carried the suffocating weight of my father's death, watching my mother's health crumble under poverty while searching for the person responsible. But looking at the cold data glowing on my screen, I realized Raven wasn't the master strategist running this board, he was just another target in his uncle’s ruthless war for power.

“What do you want to do, Bailey?” Viktor asked softly. “We can pull your mother out of Saint Jude's right now. I can hijack the medical database, wipe your records, and disappear your family to a safehouse before dawn. You don't have to walk into that lion's den.”

I opened my eyes, staring directly at the lines of code on my screen. "If we run, my mom spends the rest of her short life hiding in fear, Maya loses her future, and the men who ruined my family stay untouchable in their high-rise towers. We don't run."

“So what's the plan?”

“I move into the Crest Villa tomorrow,” I stated coldly, my fingers gliding over my custom keyboard as I uploaded a stealth program directly into Crest Holdings' secondary network. “I take Raven’s ten million dollars, let Frank believe his trap is working perfectly, and use my access inside their household to dismantle Frank Crest from the inside out.”

“And Raven?” Viktor hesitated over the line. “He’s sharp, Bailey. He nearly caught you.”

“Raven thinks he bought my silence with a piece of paper,” I whispered, “He has no idea he’s letting his worst enemy move straight into his home.”

Suddenly, a sharp, high-pitched chime echoed through my earpiece. My laptop terminal froze, instantly overriding all five of my custom security firewalls in a second.

A single line of text flashed across my screen in bright, blood-red font:

`DATA LEAK DETECTED. SIGNAL TRACED TO OLD DISTRICT ROUTER.`

`"Your secure line is leaking, my fake wife. My driver will be waiting outside your apartment at 7:00 AM sharp. Don't keep me waiting."`

I stared at the glowing text on the screen, my jaw tightening as a quiet, dangerous smile touched my lips.

Chapter 63Bailey's POVThe private jet touched down smoothly on the sunlit tarmac. As the cabin door opened, warm tropical air filled the plane, carrying the scent of hibiscus and salty ocean breeze. For months, our lives had been filled with corporate boardrooms, security details, legal battles, and the sleepless nights that came with caring for a newborn. Stepping onto the private island felt like entering another world. Here, everything was quiet, and life seemed to move at the same gentle pace as the waves.Still, a small part of me remained on guard. Standing at the top of the mobile staircase, with the bright sunlight reflecting off the white sand runway, I remembered when open spaces had made me nervous and every distant horizon had seemed like a place where danger could be waiting.Raven noticed my hesitation. He stood beside me, holding our four-month-old daughter, Clara, in a light cotton carrier against his chest. He shifted closer and slipped his free hand into mine, gent

Chapter 62Bailey's POVThe heavy mahogany doors of the primary executive suite closed behind us, cutting off the lingering echoes of applause from the grand hall. Inside the quiet, sunlit office, everything felt calm and still. The massive glass windows offered a panoramic view of the city we had reclaimed, stretching beneath a bright autumn sky.Yet, as I smoothed the fabric of my tailored skirt and walked toward the seating area, a familiar instinct reminded me of something I had learned the hard way.Empires weren't built on love alone. They were held together by loyalty.A sharp memory of those dark days flashed through my mind—the ambushes, the untrustworthy boards, the relentless betrayal of Frank Crest’s men, and the terrifying nights when every shadow felt like a threat. We had survived because of the few steadfast souls who had stood beside us through it all.Viktor stood near the center of the room.He held himself with his usual immaculate posture, his dark suit pressed to

  • His Contract, Her Revenge    The Family Portrait

Chapter 61Bailey's POVThe vaulted ceilings of the grand hall at Crest Tower echoed with a soft, respectful murmur. Sunlight streamed through the towering stained-glass windows, casting long, golden shafts across the polished marble floors where history had once been written in cold ambition, corporate blood, and fear. For decades, the walls of this monumental room had displayed severe, unsmiling portraits of past executives—men who valued power above human life and treated a family name like a balance sheet. Today, we were rewriting the entire legacy.A sharp, familiar flutter of self-consciousness tightened in my chest. Standing near the center of the vast hall beneath a massive, cloth-draped canvas, I smoothed down the fabric of my emerald silk dress. Even now, holding fifty-two percent of the conglomerate and having survived every trap laid for us, standing before an assembly of our employees felt raw. Part of my mind whispered phantom warnings—what if the cold ghosts of the past

Chapter 60Bailey's POVThe tip of the fountain pen scratched furiously against the heavy parchment, the ink bleeding into the fibers as my hand shook. Standing out on the edge of the coastal cliff behind the villa, the cold evening wind whipped my hair across my face, carrying the sharp, salty smell of the ocean below. Eight years. For eight agonizing years, I had carried a mountain of unspoken words, crushing grief, and unrelenting trauma locked deep inside my ribs. Eight years of running, hiding, surviving, and wrestling with ghosts that refused to let me sleep.A sharp, heavy knot of conflict twisted tight in my throat. My fingers trembled so violently I had to stop writing for a second, staring down at the ink-stained paper. Part of my mind screamed warnings—what if letting go of the pain meant letting go of the memory of my father? What if the anger and the grief were the only armor I had left to protect myself?"You don't have to rush it, Bailey," a low, gravelly voice murmured

Chapter 59Bailey's POVThe autumn wind swept across the newly paved cobblestones of the Old District, carrying the sweet smell of roasting chestnuts, fresh bread, and the lively sounds of a neighborhood that had finally come back to life. I stood beneath a grand, silk-draped banner stretched across the center of the square as the morning sun washed everything in warm, golden light.Six months ago, this same street had been a forgotten alley, choked by poverty and overshadowed by the corrupt empire of Frank Crest. Today, it was filled with music, laughter, and cheering crowds. At the center of the square stood a tall, polished stone monument with a freshly engraved bronze plaque: Clara Square.A familiar knot of vulnerability tightened in my chest.I looked out at the hundreds of smiling faces—families gathered together, children playing near the new clinic, and elderly residents standing arm-in-arm. Chapter 58Bailey's POVThe heavy iron gates of the coastal villa swung open smoothly, welcoming us home. Three days ago, leaving this place had meant plunging into a midnight storm of panic and pain. Today, returning through those same gates felt like stepping into a completely new world.I rested my head against the cool leather headrest of the Maybach, looking out the window as the sleek car made its way up the coastal drive. The vast ocean stretched endlessly to our left, sparkling beneath the bright autumn sun, while the white stucco walls of the villa rose ahead of us, surrounded by lush green gardens and colorful coastal flowers.A familiar knot of vulnerability tightened briefly in my chest. For so long, this estate had felt like a golden cage—a heavily fortified fortress where we had hidden from hitmen, corporate spies, and the dark shadow of Frank Crest. Looking at it now, surrounded by the quiet hum of the car, all of that felt a million miles away.Beside me, Raven moved w
