Eighth night. The first-floor main hall.

Chloe was already waiting for me, a huge backpack slung over her shoulders. She looked fully equipped.

"Ava!" she said with a sweet smile. "You're here."

I nodded. "Ready to go?"

"Of course!" she said, patting her pack. "I've got lights, ropes, and all kinds of protective gear."

We started down to the basement. The stairs were narrow, only wide enough for one person. Chloe went first, and I followed.

"By the way," she said as we walked, "the ghosts in the basement are a bit special. They're not as friendly as your 'roommates'."

"Oh?"

"They attack your mind with illusions," she said, glancing back at me. "They make you see your deepest fears."

"Sounds fun."

We soon reached the basement.

It was definitely different from upstairs. The air was thick with the smell of rot, and strange mold grew on the walls.

"This is it," Chloe said, pointing to a room at the far end. "The legendary secret room."
