Chapter 1 Labor of Lies

Penulis: Perfect Timing
When I opened my eyes, I was back on the delivery bed. The sharp, unmistakable pangs of labor told me one thing that I had been reborn.

Right now, a nurse was pushing me toward the delivery room.

I saw the door drawing closer.

"Stop!" I clutched my swollen belly and rolled off the bed. "I'm not giving birth! Let me go!"

Once inside, my husband Julian Steele would force me, unconscious, to deliver a deformed child.

I pressed my hands against my swollen belly. Only while inside me was my baby truly safe.

"Are you going to waste Dr. Steele's time?" the nurse snapped, her tone sharp. "You're just here to pop out a kid for him, so what's the big deal?"

She reached for my hair, ready to hit me. I shoved her to the floor.

"How dare you!" she shrieked.

"Go get my phone," I demanded, cold and steady. "Or I'll expose every private photo you sent my husband."

Pregnant women had no say in this. I needed to call my parents and get transferred to another hospital.

She hesitated for a second, then relented.

In my past life, Julian had used her flirtations to place her by my side as a spy, all to ensure the baby swap succeeded.

I'd found the first hint of his plan and wanted to do a paternity test on the deformed child. But no matter how I tried, I couldn't find my phone and contact my parents to help me get discharged. By the time the baby died and was cremated, there was no proof left.

Only then did the nurse finally hand over the hidden phone.

Julian's every step had been calculated to kill me, all for Sienna.

Another contraction hit, and I forced myself back into the moment, kneeling on the floor and breathing through the pain.

Then, an alarm blared. The delivery room door swung open, and Julian stepped out.

The second he saw me, he forced a tender look into his eyes.

"You're about to be a mother, and you're still acting stubborn?" he said with a smile, approaching me. "I didn't spend yesterday with you because of work. Don't be mad, okay?"

His words were soft, but the strength in his hand told another story.

"Don't touch me!" I screamed, dodging.

All I could see in my mind was the memories of him pushing me and my daughter down the stairs.

Towering above us, he held Sienna in his arms, a smile in his eyes as he watched me and my daughter struggle in despair.

"Perfect," he had said. "Two burdens gone."

He kissed Sienna over and over. "Now, we can have a baby that's truly ours."

That was when I realized everything. The reason he kept going to Sienna's place, ignoring the abuse she inflicted on his own daughter, was simple. He wanted her dead. He only wanted the child that Sienna would give him.

"I'm transferring to another hospital," I said, my body trembling with instinctive fear.

"Lexi, you really are unruly," Julian said, a flicker of cold in his eyes even as his smile never wavered.

The people around us started scolding me. In my previous life, his perfect husband image had fooled everyone.

When I cried that my child had been swapped, no one believed me.

Julian called it postpartum depression. Everyone agreed. I even started doubting myself, thinking maybe I was just being irrational after all the trauma.

Now that I had a second chance at life, I was determined to reveal his true colors to everyone.

The nurse brought the phone over. Julian noticed and tried to stop me.

"Get the patient onto the delivery bed and move her in," he ordered his assistant.

"Don't worry," he said, gripping my hand tight. "Lexi, your condition is very serious. Only I can save you."

As if! Without me, how would he ever swap babies for his first love?

"Honey…" I softened my voice, pretending to give in, my tone almost pitiful. "Before I deliver, I just want to call my parents. You wouldn't refuse, right?"

  • How I Deal With the Ultimate Betrayal After Rebirth   Chapter 8 The End of Sienna and Julian

The original livestream playback had been taken down after Sienna filed a report under her real name. I'd spent ages piecing together the full version—unedited, not a single second cut. It was far more compelling than Sienna's polished and curated clips. With that footage in hand, public opinion shifted overnight. I went from being ridiculed as a jealous clown hating on a popular actress to being seen as a woman who stood up for her own dignity.Sienna's pity-party livestreams fell apart. Every time she went live, people swarmed her channel to call her a liar, demanding that she apologize and quit the industry. Then, Julian Steele—who hadn't contacted me in ages—suddenly called. Because he had lied to defend Sienna, the hospital had disciplined him. The dark circles under his eyes were grave. Gone was the so-called "star obstetrician" full of pride and confidence."Do me this one favor," he pleaded. "If you ever want us to have a decent life together again, stop talking nonsense. S

Sienna's ability to twist the truth left me stunned.Anyone with a basic sense of logic knew a baby's body was already fully formed at birth. It was impossible for any shock to suddenly turn a healthy fetus into something deformed.I hadn't even planned to respond to such absurd accusations, but public opinion shifted faster than I could have imagined.Out of nowhere, a bunch of so-called experts appeared online, claiming the deformity was my fault.Sienna's fans demanded that I pay the price. There were too many of them. And too many clueless onlookers were eager to take sides. They wanted an official explanation. That was when Julian, who hadn't contacted me once since I gave birth, stepped forward. With complete shamelessness, he declared, "Ms. Zeller is telling the truth. The deformity was caused by severe emotional shock. If Lexi Summers hadn't deliberately scared her, she would've given birth to a healthy baby."Julian was a star obstetrician. His words carried authority.

"Lexi! You are the most disgusting woman I've ever met!" Julian, completely at a loss, snapped in frustration."Why are you so worked up over some stranger?" I asked, puzzled. "She's divorced, single… and you're a married man. Do you two have something to hide?"He couldn't answer. His glare could have killed me.Thinking back, I realized he'd been in contact with Sienna all along. But I loved him, trusted him, and let his excuses slide. I never even considered that he might cheat.Julian's perfect persona had convinced me that he was the only one in this world who would never betray me. And I had given my trust to the person least deserving of it.Sienna was about to give birth. She clenched her fists, instinctively pushing with each contraction. Her fans, of course, wouldn't miss this moment. They pushed forward desperately, trying to capture the precious moment of the baby's birth.Julian delivered the baby while shooing everyone away. He warned them repeatedly not to take pi

Mom had been through childbirth herself and knew exactly how much pain Sienna was in. "Let us go," she threatened, "or I won't let her off!"The crowd of Sienna's fans, who had been fierce, flushed with anger. The more she struggled, the sharper the pain, the sense of pressure unbearable."Get off me! Let me go!"She clutched her belly, her cries growing louder. Beads of sweat slid down her forehead. The anesthesiologist stepped forward, a syringe of sedative in hand. Stunned by the hatred in my eyes, he hesitated, unable to press the needle in.While he was distracted, I summoned every ounce of strength and knocked the syringe to the floor."Maybe we should stop…" He turned anxiously to Julian. "We need the mother's consent. We can't just knock her out without permission."Julian let out a cold laugh, as if my defiance amused him. He clearly hadn't expected me to fight him to the end."Did you not understand what I said?" His eyes turned dark, his mouth twisting into a sinister smile. "My wife's in the middle of a mental breakdown. She's not in her right mind. She has no capacity to make decisions. Sedating her is the fastest way to calm her down."Julian stooped and picked up the syringe himself."No…" The word slipped out of me like a plea. The next second, without the slightest hesitation, he injected the drug into my body. "It's over," he murmured with a victor's smile.

The hospital offered video-recording services. In my last life, I'd asked for it because it would be meaningful for my husband to deliver our baby himself.Julian refused outright. He said it was a waste of money. It only cost 600, a day's pay for me. He wasn't worried about money. He was afraid anyone watching would interfere with his plan to switch the babies.Julian ground his teeth but kept his voice calm as he tried to soothe me. "Fine. You can go into the delivery room first. The camera crew will follow.""No." I panted. "The camera has to go in with me. If it doesn't, I'll jump off the building."I threatened him with my life. He didn't care whether I lived or died. What he cared about was making sure he had a healthy baby to swap for Sienna. He was afraid that if she delivered a deformed child, she'd lose dignity and her career as a star.He signaled his assistants to stand down. He looked like he wanted to kill me, but he didn't dare, just as I'd expected.Time ticke
