Chapter 2 Holding On

Penulis: Perfect Timing
Julian's eyes burned with fury. He hadn't expected me to turn his image of a loving husband into a weapon against him. "Of course," he said.

With so many people watching, he had no choice but to agree.

I seized the phone, my lifeline, and dialed home at once. "Mom, Dad, please come save me!"

I had married far from home. My parents had set out two weeks early, planning to take care of me after I gave birth.

Julian, wanting to keep them away, had secretly fed me labor-inducing drugs so I would deliver early.

In my last life, by the time they arrived, I was already in the ICU, locked away where no one was allowed to see me.

They never questioned me. They only felt my pain and agreed to everything I asked without hesitation.

"We've arranged for the nearest hospital," my father said, trying to steady his voice. "Lexi, hold on! You must hold on!"

The nearest hospital was about a forty‑minute drive. If I could just make it through, I could save my daughter and myself.

I hung up and clung tightly to an iron pipe jutting out from the wall. "I'm not going anywhere until the doctor in charge of my transfer arrives."

Julian let out a bitter laugh. My defiance was shredding his mask of gentleness.

If there hadn't been witnesses here, he would have knocked me out and dragged me into the delivery room himself.

"So, you're just missing your parents," he said with mock tenderness, patting my head. "I'll have my mom come keep you company right away."

His mother was in on it too. He wasn't calling her here to comfort me; he was calling in reinforcements.

She had never liked me. After my death in my last life, she took my inheritance for herself, even the portion meant for my parents. There wasn't a single decent soul in the Steele family.

If his mother showed up, she would almost certainly create a scene to force me into the delivery room.

I pulled out the phone and hit record.

"From this moment on, I, Lexi Summers, retain full decision‑making authority over myself," I said clearly. "No one except my parents may make medical decisions on my behalf, not even my husband. This recording is made publicly and has legal force."

Julian's expression darkened even further. He hadn't thought I would go this far.

With this recording, the hospital staff wouldn't dare touch me without my consent.

The onlookers' eyes shifted to him, searching his face as though trying to piece together just how badly he had wronged me, and what could make me so desperate that I would publicly deny him the right to speak as my family.

I had expected Julian to back down. Instead, his lips curled, his tone going cold.

"Babe, if you've been struggling with prenatal anxiety, why didn't you just tell me? I guess it's my fault. I've been too busy with work to pay attention to you." Then came his sneer. "An anxious patient's statement has no legal standing."

There it was again, his favorite tactic, branding me as mentally unstable.

"Lexi, once you give birth, all this will be over."

With a single command, Julian's assistants swarmed me, pinning me down.

He used his privileges to order a powerful labor‑inducing injection and jabbed it straight into my lower back.

The drug hit fast. Intense contractions tore through me like fire.

I clutched my belly and screamed. The pain drained every ounce of strength from me.

He was using the agony of childbirth to shackle my freedom. His assistants forced me back onto the delivery bed. My mind went blank from the pain.

As they tried to push me into the delivery room, I clutched the doorframe with both hands, refusing to let go.

"Get me full video documentation of this delivery." I gasped, eyes blazing. "Julian, do you dare?"

  • How I Deal With the Ultimate Betrayal After Rebirth   Chapter 8 The End of Sienna and Julian

The original livestream playback had been taken down after Sienna filed a report under her real name. I'd spent ages piecing together the full version—unedited, not a single second cut. It was far more compelling than Sienna's polished and curated clips. With that footage in hand, public opinion shifted overnight. I went from being ridiculed as a jealous clown hating on a popular actress to being seen as a woman who stood up for her own dignity.Sienna's pity-party livestreams fell apart. Every time she went live, people swarmed her channel to call her a liar, demanding that she apologize and quit the industry. Then, Julian Steele—who hadn't contacted me in ages—suddenly called. Because he had lied to defend Sienna, the hospital had disciplined him. The dark circles under his eyes were grave. Gone was the so-called "star obstetrician" full of pride and confidence."Do me this one favor," he pleaded. "If you ever want us to have a decent life together again, stop talking nonsense. S

Sienna's ability to twist the truth left me stunned.Anyone with a basic sense of logic knew a baby's body was already fully formed at birth. It was impossible for any shock to suddenly turn a healthy fetus into something deformed.I hadn't even planned to respond to such absurd accusations, but public opinion shifted faster than I could have imagined.Out of nowhere, a bunch of so-called experts appeared online, claiming the deformity was my fault.Sienna's fans demanded that I pay the price. There were too many of them. And too many clueless onlookers were eager to take sides. They wanted an official explanation. That was when Julian, who hadn't contacted me once since I gave birth, stepped forward. With complete shamelessness, he declared, "Ms. Zeller is telling the truth. The deformity was caused by severe emotional shock. If Lexi Summers hadn't deliberately scared her, she would've given birth to a healthy baby."Julian was a star obstetrician. His words carried authority.

"Lexi! You are the most disgusting woman I've ever met!" Julian, completely at a loss, snapped in frustration."Why are you so worked up over some stranger?" I asked, puzzled. "She's divorced, single… and you're a married man. Do you two have something to hide?"He couldn't answer. His glare could have killed me.Thinking back, I realized he'd been in contact with Sienna all along. But I loved him, trusted him, and let his excuses slide. I never even considered that he might cheat.Julian's perfect persona had convinced me that he was the only one in this world who would never betray me. And I had given my trust to the person least deserving of it.Sienna was about to give birth. She clenched her fists, instinctively pushing with each contraction. Her fans, of course, wouldn't miss this moment. They pushed forward desperately, trying to capture the precious moment of the baby's birth.Julian delivered the baby while shooing everyone away. He warned them repeatedly not to take pi

Mom hesitated, her eyes red with worry, but she stormed back into the delivery room. Before long, she dragged Sienna out."This is the celebrity you've been raving about?"Mom followed my instructions and pinned Sienna to the floor. In the middle of her contractions, Sienna was no match. Mom had been through childbirth herself and knew exactly how much pain Sienna was in. "Let us go," she threatened, "or I won't let her off!"The crowd of Sienna's fans, who had been fierce, flushed with anger. They pushed and shoved, none willing to back down first. To stop Sienna from escaping, Mom sat squarely on her lower legs.Sienna couldn't break free. The more she struggled, the sharper the pain, the sense of pressure unbearable."Get off me! Let me go!"She clutched her belly, her cries growing louder. Beads of sweat slid down her forehead. Her flawless makeup had melted away, leaving her looking twisted and ugly."Your people won't leave. Why should I let go?"Mom didn't relent.

The anesthesiologist stepped forward, a syringe of sedative in hand. Stunned by the hatred in my eyes, he hesitated, unable to press the needle in.While he was distracted, I summoned every ounce of strength and knocked the syringe to the floor."Maybe we should stop…" He turned anxiously to Julian. "We need the mother's consent. We can't just knock her out without permission."Julian let out a cold laugh, as if my defiance amused him. He clearly hadn't expected me to fight him to the end."Did you not understand what I said?" His eyes turned dark, his mouth twisting into a sinister smile. "My wife's in the middle of a mental breakdown. She's not in her right mind. She has no capacity to make decisions. Sedating her is the fastest way to calm her down."Julian stooped and picked up the syringe himself."No…" The word slipped out of me like a plea. The next second, without the slightest hesitation, he injected the drug into my body. "It's over," he murmured with a victor's smile.

  • How I Deal With the Ultimate Betrayal After Rebirth   Chapter 3 Labor Room Betrayal

The hospital offered video-recording services. In my last life, I'd asked for it because it would be meaningful for my husband to deliver our baby himself.Julian refused outright. He said it was a waste of money. It only cost 600, a day's pay for me. He wasn't worried about money. He was afraid anyone watching would interfere with his plan to switch the babies.Julian ground his teeth but kept his voice calm as he tried to soothe me. "Fine. You can go into the delivery room first. The camera crew will follow.""No." I panted. "The camera has to go in with me. If it doesn't, I'll jump off the building."I threatened him with my life. He didn't care whether I lived or died. What he cared about was making sure he had a healthy baby to swap for Sienna. He was afraid that if she delivered a deformed child, she'd lose dignity and her career as a star.He signaled his assistants to stand down. He looked like he wanted to kill me, but he didn't dare, just as I'd expected.Time ticke
