Chapter 32

We propped my desk chair in front of the full-length mirror and from behind me, I saw Deshawn's face mirrored mine. He seemed lost while sitting cross-legged on my bed. His eyes were trained on us and every time Raven raised a hand to curl a strand of my hair, he followed.

I felt bad for him. His grief ran deep and though Marco Arandia was the worst friend to him, it still stung. I couldn't catch his eye and it frustrated me. 

As she smoothed on the creams, dabbed the color, and perfected even the smallest details on my face, I zoned out. The window in my room was open and the fresh air filtered through, caressing my cheeks. I let it fill my lungs and the action slowed the outside world.
