Ashlyn

The wall back to the meeting room reminded me of Mrs Fennick, she was my math teacher and whenever we'd get into shit the principle loved sending us to her. Cause we knew we were in deep shit. So we shut up and waited for her to say something but she wouldn't at first. She would just let it hang in the air.

Krav was calm, but Haden was livid. I knew I was going to get an earful once we got out of here.

Too many eyes watched us as we got back. Though no one said anything I could tell they wanted.

The doors thudded shut and the sound rolled along the walls like a silent judgment. I felt it in my teeth. I felt everything in my teeth— the anger, the lies, bitterness, the wrenched taste of hard truths. The Elders lifted their heads in a slow wave, and for a breath it was like standing in front of a Asmodeus for judgment.

Elder Amer didn’t speak. She didn’t have to. One look from her and I was sixteen again, standing in front of the Council with mud on my boots and a smart

Ashlyn Right. The hearing. I could've blamed New York for that, or better yet the ones who put me with humans. Not that I surrounded myself with many. Apparently, the boyfriend that I thought that was human was not actually human. So I guess I didn't have any reason not to use an inside voice. I mean, most of my friends in New York were shifters like me, but we didn't need to whisper to each other or keep secrets. I thought we had a good thing going. When I think about it, There were moments where we would sit outside and gossip about Deacon or Krav, but he never said anything, and that made me think, what else was he lying about? So all those times when I nitpicked him, all the times when I said something bad that he shouldn't have heard, God forbid, when Ardan and I spoke about dragon stuff, was he listening the whole time? Was he just sent there to spy on me? Could he be part of all of this? I scrunched my face as I felt the entire room now faced me. My body was still humming with

Ashlyn "I think we can eat first then proceed with the discussion." Haden spoke breaking up our little trio. I walked out the second I cleared the doors. Didn’t speak. Didn’t look back. Didn’t care who followed. The air outside hit different, it was a lot denser, and hotter as I walked outside into the sun. My skin still burned from the shift, and my hands were still shaking from everything I didn’t get to say and that look in his eyes. Fucking Deacon. No—Krav. The name tasted like lemon on my mouth and I hated it, I hated how my body betrayed me to him I hated how the guilt I felt made me want to hit him and kiss him. Human my ass. I stopped at the edge of the ward, fists clenched, boots digging into the dirt. The wards along the trees pulsed faint and steady, a reminder that this wasn’t my territory, that everything was watching. The panthers were notorious for their ability to blend in and go undetected. “He lied,” I spat, to the sun “He was the one who

Ashlyn I charged him and everyone moved out of our way. He didn't respond at first. "Deacon." I growled his name through the honshu. Only it wasn’t the Deacon I left behind. Remember the lethal thing? How I described his body as a killer? Well, that wasn't just his built after all. He walked in with slow, careful steps, like he knew the weight of what he was doing. Like he knew I was here. He didn’t look human anymore and I paused. Landing on my haunches. Blue hair, cut short at the sides, messier on top. A massive blue dragon tattoo covered his chest. A black panther inked down his rib cage. A wolf on his left side, snarling. He pulled something from the back of his pants pocket. It was a thin fabric, some kind of jersey. Probably one of his very rare clothing items. Alumni. And that was the sign, this moment was the reason the universe kept showing us that damn word. He was one. The fucking ass. I surely knew how to pick them. 'How did we miss that Sheeta

Ashlyn I stood by the opening of the door watching the two panthers whisper to each other. “Ashlyn, Let’s talk inside,” he said, then motioned for us to follow. The air thickened as I entered his tower. We were thirty-six . A strong pack if they did something and that is if the honshu didn't destroy the entire city. She could be destructive if pissed off. And over the last eight years a lot changed. The honshu was a hundred times stronger and meaner. The tower wasn’t just an architectures dream. It was alive with so many people walking around busy about there day. There were cleaners, soldiers, some kids, parents, and dogs? A small puppy ran up to Kellan and he dropped down to pet it. The place was a lot different than we imagined. Ellan led us down a corridor with artsy black tinted glass walls, faintly reflective. "It's not much different to its copious outdoors." Chase whispered coming to standing inline with me. "It's a false interlude. They just want us to t

  • How to Catch a Mate   Chapter 45

Ashlyn I’d seen it before, but it never got less impressive regardless of how many times I entered Panther City. The streets were tared, and the building painted in dark grey, silky blacks and bullet proof reinforced windows. Some were made out of brick, and concrete whilst others made from metal walls. The tower however always stood tall. A structure carved straight in the middle of the entire city. It's biggest building. They called it the main tower. It was made of black glass and steel, parts of it sharp as blades made especially to keep the dragons off their walls. The outer walls shimmered faintly with protection wards, that made the honshu hiss in annoyance. The honshu like the witches were one of the few who could summon up a good protection barrier. And this one was made by my gran. She liked nice things so the price must've been a hefty one. The vines surrounding the outside as we drove into the towers gates weren’t just plants—they were laced with opium cyanide
