MasukI couldn’t sleep that night, not really.
Every time I closed my eyes I saw the office door again, half open. Him behind the desk saying my name like I was his designated mistress— and everything that happened after. I kept tossing and turning on the bed. My lights were off but standing up from the bed, I went to the light switch and turned it back on. Unable to sleep, unable to make sense of what had happened between me and my boss. I kept replaying it. His hands on my skin, his breath behind my ears, how he said my name, the way he stared at me, his hands as they cupped my… No Mia, don’t make this into something it wasn’t. You cannot think about him, you must not think about him. That should never have happened, he was obviously not himself. Or was he? It doesn't matter, I let it happen. He didn’t act like himself, he didn’t sound like himself, but somehow that didn’t stop me, didn’t stop us. I had seen Rafiah angry before, he was cold, untouchable and stern. But today he looked vulnerable, like he was desperate to touch me, and desperate for my touch. Why didn't I just leave? I kept touching my lips subconsciously, “Omg I feel sick” I said I checked the time again. 11:25pm. Barely 10 minutes had passed since I last checked it. A notification popped up on my phone screen. It was a message from Dave. “Hey baby, I'm sorry again that I cancelled dinner plans last minute, are you home yet? Or still at your team's dinner?” “Oh shoot” I gasped, “Jamie!!” I quickly searched for his contact to text him. WORK BESTIE: “Hey Jamie, I’m sorry I blew you off tonight, I just got home, I completely lost track of time. I worked until I couldn't walk anymore, I was so exhausted I had to call it a night.” Yeah, Mia, you literally couldn’t walk home. “I’ll def make it up to you babes.” “M— I called you a thousand times, it kept going to voicemail. It’s okay pooks, manager Emily seemed kinda mad you blew us off but i told her you were having relationship troubles so you're probably good for now”. “I love you Jamie, you’re the best, see you tomorrow.” “Xx kisses” he responded. Oh shoot, I forgot to reply to Dave. “Hey.., yeah the team dinner was okay, i just got home, wanna shower and go to bed I’ll call you in the morning.” Mia you LIAR!! “Okay baby, glad you had fun. We’re still on for dinner tomorrow, yeah?” “Yeah sure, okay.” “Goodnight, I love you Baby.” He said. “Love you too, Goodnight.” I turned off the light and laid down on my bed, but laying there in the darkness, my mind kept drifting back to Raf. My hand slipped underneath my dress, touching my belly button and going further down. The thought of him touching my thighs came flooding in. I stood up and turned the light on again, pacing around my room. I couldn’t sit still, my body felt like it didn’t belong to me tonight. Finally I stood still, facing my vanity mirror, staring at myself. Maybe if I looked hard, I’d recognize the girl staring back at me. What is wrong with you Mia? It’s one thing to betray Lucas and Dave, It’s another not to acknowledge that it was a mistake. They both love and trust me so much and somehow I managed to betray them in a single night. A mistake that should never repeat itself again. Ever!! God this is bad, I panicked. “Aarrgghhhh” I pressed the pillow over my face. “Go to bed Mia,” I yelled. By morning it would be nothing for sure. That’s what I told myself, that’s what I wanted to believe. But deep down I knew it wasn’t true. The rain didn’t let up. Instead, it became heavier, drumming steadily against the stone balcony and soaking the gardens below within minutes.I leaned against the railing, stretching out my hand just enough for the cool droplets to splash against my fingers. “It’s freezing,” I muttered.“You still won’t go inside.”I smiled without looking at him. “I said I like the rain.”“You’ll regret it tomorrow.”“Future Mia can deal with that.”A soft chuckle escaped him.“There she is.”I frowned. “There who is?”“The Mia everyone at the office talks about.”I turned to him. “They talk about me?”“They spend an unhealthy amount of time talking.”“About me?”“About everyone.”I narrowed my eyes suspiciously.“What do they say?”He folded his arms, pretending to think.“Hmm…You know exactly what they say.”“I might, and?”“They think you’re incapable of sitting still.”“That’s true.”“They think you make friends too easily.”“I’ll take that as a compliment.”“They think you talk too much.”I gasp
I stayed with them for another half hour before finally excusing myself.Mrs. Khalid protested, of course. “You’re leaving already?” she asked, placing a hand dramatically over her heart. “I was just getting to know my new favorite child.”Rafiah sighed. “Mum.”“What?”“You’ve known her for thirty minutes.”“And?”I laughed. “I should probably let you both enjoy the rest of your afternoon.”She clicked her tongue. “Fine. But only because I’ll see you again before you leave.” The smile on my face faltered for the smallest moment. “I hope so.” She squeezed my hand one last time. “I know so.”As I turned to leave, I could feel his eyes on me again. Not curious, not cold. Just…there. I resisted every urge to look back. The ground crunched beneath my sneakers as I walked toward the villa. The chilly breeze carried the scent of freshly cut grass and blooming flowers. Somewhere nearby, a fountain trickled softly, blending with the distant chirping of birds. It was peaceful but my mind refu
I stayed frozen at the edge of the stairs. Why did those words make me sad? Those were the words I’d been waiting weeks to hear, but now that I’d heard them, they didn’t bring any ounce of joy. Didn’t I want to leave anymore because he was back?“Finally,” I said lazily, making my way up the stairs. His eyes followed me as I walked. I glanced at him for a second and quickly turned away.I plopped down on the bed when I reached my room and psychoanalyzed everything that had just played out. I scoffed. He said I was jealous about him meeting Lucas. Me? Mia? Jealous? Such a sick bastard. I mean, who the fuck does he think he is? I placed a hand on my chest. It was racing. I began to feel sweaty and started fanning myself with my hands.A knock came on the door. It was Adrian.“Ma’am, may I come in?” I heard her say.“Yeah, sure. Come in.”She opened the door and bowed politely. She was holding a light-blue suitcase, which she gently set down on the floor.“The master asked me to bring th
I sat down, staring at the entrée of food without meeting his gaze. The morning sunlight streaming through the floor-to-ceiling windows.“You look well. My staff must have been doing a good job.”“Yeah,” I said, raising my gaze slightly to meet him before dropping it again. “Yeah, they’re the best, really.”He didn’t look away. He just kept that gaze on me, boring into my soul.“You don’t seem happy to see me.”“Why are you back?”He didn’t reply. He just gazed at me.I stared back, neither of us breaking eye contact. The room seemed to disappear. After what felt like twenty minutes, he smirked. “This is my house. I can come in whenever I want.”I smiled softly despite myself. “Now that you’re back, I take it that I can leave here, right?”His expression softened slightly. “How have you been?”I ignored the question. “When can I leave here, Rafiah?”He remained silent.“You spent quite a while in LA. Then you just waltz back in here like nothing happened. I’m just about done with all
I can’t believe it’s your wedding today,” Onika said.“I know, right? After the hiccup with my boss, I’m glad I was able to make the right decision. It would have been really bad if Lucas found out too.”“Mia, let’s not have unhappy thoughts and memories today,” she said, adjusting my veil on my hair properly. “You look so pretty. Oh my gosh.”“Do you think Dave would love this outfit? What do you think his face would look like when he sees me?”“I bet his mouth would open like this,” she said, making faces and poses.I burst out laughing. “Onika, don’t make me ruin my makeup.” The buzzing started softly at first. Then suddenly the entire room seemed to come alive with vibration after vibration, like something was spreading through it. I frowned. “Who could be sending so many messages at once?” Onika reached for her phone first. And then she froze. Her expression changed immediately.“What…” her voice dropped.“What is it?” I asked. She didn’t answer at first. Just slowly turned the
The warmth of Mia’s breath came down his body. After their encounter at the office, Rafiah never shook her off his mind, but he knew he had to. He opened his eyes and saw the prettiest girl lying right next to him. Her perky breasts rested against the sheets while her round buttocks lay exposed beside her.He rolled slightly, careful not to wake her up. Slowly, he stood up from the bed and took one more look at her sculpted body before pulling her robe gently over her naked skin. Then he leaned down and kissed her softly. For this to work, she had to believe none of this happened. He quietly walked toward the door and stepped into the hallway. One of his men immediately straightened when he saw him come out of Mia’s room, but he wisely kept his face blank like he hadn’t seen anything.“Boss.”“Wake the girls up,” Rafiah said coldly. “Pay them and get them out before Mia wakes up and sees them.”“Yes, boss.”“We take off immediately to LA.”The man looked slightly confused. “Boss, the
“Fine, I’ll forget about what happened between us! But is this how you cheat on my brother? How dare you Raf?” The hired entertainer was on top of Raf, unbuttoning his shirt and giving him a lap dance. I moved toward the door, it didn’t open. “Raf I don’t want it to be here. I do not care to w
