Chapter 2

Author: Getting Better
I felt my heart aching as I looked at Riven. Why was he sick all of a sudden? He seemed perfectly healthy to me.

Riven's hands suddenly froze whilst he was drying his hair. His eyes were dark and empty, and there was no emotion in them whenever he looked at me. He certainly wasn't acting like any of the incubi I'd seen in those advertisements, whose eyes would lit up as soon as they saw their owners.

"If you still can't accept me a few days later, I'll bring you in for servicing," I said.

Riven seemed to sigh in relief and nodded.

I felt a slight pang of resentment. After all, he was exactly my type, but I could only stare at him without even laying a finger on him. It was truly unbearable and tested my patience.

I decided to get up and leave the room instead.

The reason why I even bought an incubus in the first place was because I liked it.

Dad suddenly called me then, and I answered the call rather impatiently.

"Tracy? Your grandma's missing you again. When are you planning to come home?" he asked.

I knew that this was just an excuse. Obviously, he was the one who missed me more than Grandma did.

Dad was my biggest, number-one fan. He doted on me a lot, and at times, it felt as though going a few days without seeing me would cost him his life or something.

I massaged my temples and said, "Fine. I get it. Later, I'll—"

I turned around just then and stopped short. Riven was already starting to pack.

I asked him, "Do you like going back to the Ashford villa?"

I hadn't even hung up on the call before Riven began packing. I noticed Riven's hand freezing for a split second, but he said nothing in response, and I didn't think too much about it.

I really didn't want to go back to the villa, but I couldn't stand Dad's constant nagging and moral blackmail.

"Grandma's not going to be around any longer. Is it wrong for me to ask you to come home and see her more often?"

So, I hadn't even left the villa for three days before I was summoned back there again.

As soon as I arrived, however, a young woman ran up to us.

I frowned and quickly stepped aside, casting her a cold glance.

It was my stepsister, Teresa Ashford. She looked at me with an aggrieved expression on her face and spoke in a high-pitched voice.

"You're finally back, Tracy! Did you know how much I missed you over the last couple of days?"

I found it a little hilarious. Even though Dad loved me very much, transferred all of the shares to his company under my name, and swore that he couldn't live without seeing me again every other day, that didn't stop him from marrying another woman and having another child.

I disliked Teresa not because of Dad, but because of how fake and pretentious she was.

I had caught her trying to sabotage me many times in the past, and she hadn't even managed to straighten her face each time I caught her red-handed.

She didn't feel awkward when I barely acknowledged her. Instead, she turned to address Riven behind me with a huge smile on her face.

"Hello, Riven! Aren't you tired of carrying so many things for her?"

Teresa then shot me a reproachful look and said, "How could you do this to him, Tracy? Riven is your incubus, not your butler! How could you make him do such tiring work?"

I scoffed. "Are you going to do it, then?"

Teresa's expression froze for a second. Riven just looked at me with a dark look in his eyes, but he didn't say a thing.

I felt irritated and headed straight for my room. I didn't want to deal with Teresa and her fakeness at all.

That was why I never noticed Riven smiling and nodding at Teresa behind me.

At dinner, Dad didn't look pleased when he saw that Riven was seated next to me at the table.

"He's just a toy. Why are you bringing him with you wherever you go like he's your baby?"

Riven stiffened next to me. I simply looked at Dad with a helpless expression on my face.

Before I could defend Riven, however, Teresa shot to his defense first.

"Dad! You can't say that about Riven! He might be an incubus, but he still has his dignity!"

Riven stirred. I turned my head around and looked at him.

His eyes were fixed on Teresa unwaveringly, and they were filled with emotion.

I scrutinized him closely with a frown on my face. Was I imagining things? Why did it look as though Riven's eyes were sparkling when he looked at her?

Riven seemed to have gone mad. He kept his head down and wouldn't stop mumbling, "I'm going to be done for if you really return me this time… And I won't be able to see Tracy again…"I felt a chill run down my spine. If he didn't want to be returned to the store, so be it. What did it have anything to do with me?What did Riven mean by not being able to see me again? He and Teresa were both out of their minds, and I didn't want to deal with any of them anymore. I never thought that Riven would find blackmail material on Teresa just as she was dead-set on returning him. He used Teresa's weakness to threaten her, and she backed off, figuring that she could just keep him after all.Teresa never came back after that, but Riven did. He continued staying at the Ashford villa and kept trying to get close to me. However, Jett was a very clingy incubus, and Riven never dared to come close to me with Jett around.I got more and more worried as I watched Riven's increasingly thin figure a

"I promise I won't cause any trouble for you this time," Riven said. He then looked at Jett with a humiliated expression and said, "I don't mind serving you with him either."Jett frowned at once. However, he couldn't object in my place. After all, he was just an incubus, and no matter how unwilling he was, he didn't have the right to refuse. It was all up to me to decide.I rubbed my chin, looking at Riven. He then looked at me expectantly, as if thinking that I would actually consider taking him back.In actual fact, I was just wondering how to tell him off."Do I look like a garbage collector to you? You think that you can just come and go as you please? Who do you think you are?"I scoffed and continued, "Even if I were into threesomes or more, wouldn't it be better for me to buy a few more incubi who would only have eyes for me? Why would I even want to consider taking someone rotten like you back?"Riven was hurt by my words and gave me a broken look. "I'm not rotten… I ne

"Please don't even look at him, my lady," Jett said, gently biting down on my ear.I turned around and pushed at his chest."Alright, alright. Let's go back inside.""Wait," Jett said, slowly opening up the condom packaging that the hotel staff had just delivered to us. "I need to check that we received the correct items."Riven's face turned an even ghastlier white when he noticed what the packaging was.I turned around, wanting to go back into the room, when I suddenly felt a sharp pull against my wrist. I looked back and saw Riven tugging on my wrist, his gaze fixed on the box of condoms in Jett's hands.Jett couldn't hold back anymore and swung his fist at Riven's face with a loud curse.I exclaimed in shock but didn't stop him.Sometimes, stray incubi, driven by extreme hunger, would try seducing other incubi's owners. "I'd be so incredibly unlucky to have an owner like her," Jett said to me, purposely provoking Riven behind us.Riven's face was deathly pale."My owner is still the best," Jett said smugly.I nudged him gently in response.I wasn't the least bit surprised by Teresa's sudden change in behavior. I knew that she had only been faking it all along. She pretended to be a pure, harmless, innocent person only when Dad was around, just like her mother. But now that Dad wasn't around, it wasn't surprising that she couldn't keep up with the act anymore.Jett was still provoking Riven on purpose."Aren't you going to run after her? Be careful, your owner might abandon you again."…Jett was in the shower when I heard a loud knock on the door.I frowned as I listened to the sound of running water in the bathroom. I wasn't planning to answer the door. Who could it possibly be, anyway? However, the knocking persisted, and I soon heard Jett's voice coming from the bathroom."My lady, I be

I giggled under the covers when I heard how harshly Jett was talking to Riven.Jett then hung up and leaned closer toward me, speaking in a helpless, coquettish tone, "Malfunctioning incubus like him should be terminated immediately. He's no longer bound to you. Why did you still let him call you 'my lady'?"I protested my innocence at once. "I didn't! He was the one who decided to call me that!"…I really didn't want to continue living under the same roof as Teresa anymore. So, I decided to bring Jett on vacation with me.However, I simply couldn't get rid of Teresa. She was like an annoying fly who wouldn't go away and was set on making my life as miserable as possible. My face darkened when I saw Teresa and Riven at the airport.Teresa skipped up to me and grabbed my arm. "Tracy! Dad said that since we're all going on vacation anyway, it would be a good idea to go together. We'd be able to look out for each other, then."I yanked my arm from her hold and didn't bother being

Jett's final sentence felt like a death sentence for Riven.I watched Jett chatter away with admiration in my eyes. He was quite different from my initial impression of him.Riven's face was deathly white now. However, Teresa's eyes lit up at once when she heard what Jett said. She quickly grabbed her phone and checked the store's website."Yes!" she exclaimed in glee. "I managed to snag you for less than a tenth of your original price! Riven, you're my incubus now!"Teresa looked absolutely delighted, like she had just won the bargain lottery.Riven looked at her first, then at me. He simply couldn't accept the fact that he had been so easily and hastily replaced."But my lady…"I knew all along that Teresa only began seducing him and bound him to herself because she was trying to create trouble for me. However, I had to care first before it would hurt. I couldn't be bothered with them now that my new incubus was here.At dinnertime, Dad saw Jett sitting next to me while Rive
