Step Four: Set Beast Planet as destination

Before Lei could finish his cry, his head bumped into a protruding branch making him instantly lose his consciousness.

When he came to, he found himself lying in a soft bed. The moment he opened his eyes, a white ceiling greeted his vision. Lei turned his head and looked around. He was in a small white room. All the walls, door, and even the window were painted white. There was a couch on the corner of the room and a table beside the bed. On the table was a basket of fruits and a vase filled with unfamiliar white flowers. The room was simple with no one around, but it was extremely clean and the air is fresh and relaxing.

“Hospital?” Lei murmured to himself, trying to sit up.

“Eh?” His expression immediately froze. He can’t move. Aside from his head, all parts of his body are paralyzed. He was baffled, trying to get up once again, and then another. After a few failed attempts, he finally gave up.

Was it because I fell too hard? Well, it was a giant tree after all. With such a height, it was already a miracle for me to survive.

Lei sighed. He started to think of how he should live his life from now on.

A wheelchair doesn’t seem bad. But who will push me? Even my hands are paralyzed.

He was deeply immersed in his thought, his mind flying to the sky. The sound of the door opening suddenly reverberated in the quiet room, pulling him back to his senses. He immediately closed his eyes, pretending to be asleep.

Now is not the time for him to think about his future being a cripple, the most important matter right now is his current situation at hand. Lei suddenly remembered. He still have no idea what kind of place he was in or how did he ended up here..

A woman wearing a white uniform came in. She seems to be a nurse but her uniform is quite different from what Lei knew. Of course, Lei, himself wasn’t aware of this- he was pretending to be sleeping after all. She walked in, carrying a clip board with medical records on them. Upon seeing him asleep, the nurse quietly went and checked on him.

She seems to be in her twenties. She has a small, delicate, pretty face with fair skin and long, straight hair- she looks exactly the ideal woman of most men.

After checking on him, the nurse exited the room just as quietly as she came.

Lei maintained his eyes closed for three minutes. When he was sure the person was really gone, he slowly began to open them again- only to close them immediately right after for the door opened once again. Lei’s body was slightly stiff.

Two men in their forties wearing white lab coat, came in one after another. They were talking to themselves quietly. Lei suddenly felt uneasy. He didn’t know why but these people somewhat gives him a slight invisible pressure, just like that giant bird.

That time with the giant bird, it took him a while to notice because of his panic and fear, no, he didn’t notice at all, he only realized it now. The nurse’s pressure from before was also very subtle to the point of almost non-existent so he also couldn’t feel it. However, this two, combining their pressure, it was very easy to detect.

“He hasn’t woken up yet? It’s been a month since he was brought here. Are you sure he will still wake up?” It was the person who came in last. He seems to be the one with higher seniority given the way he speak. They’re actually speaking in English! Where is this place?! Lei was finally able to adjust. He perked his ears up and listened intently.

“Y-yes, Doctor Brown, we’re sure. His condition is getting better by the day and it was no longer critical as before. In fact, his body is already fully recovered. He should be waking up soon.” He paused slightly.

“We also made sure to use anectine everyday to temporarily paralyzed his body. This way we won’t have to worry of him being violent or running away the moment he wakes up.” The other person was very respectful when he spoke. It seems there was quite a gap between his and the other person’s position.

“That’s good. Look after him carefully. Someone who can travel from a low civilization planet to a beast planet unscathed is definitely holding something extraordinary on his body. Did you get his belongings?”

“Yes. It was turned over by Ms. Emily when she brought him here.”

“Did you find anything?”

“No. Aside from his clothes, there wasn’t anything else on him.”

“Just clothes? Where is it? Did you check on them? What materials are they made of?”

“ Y-yes, just clothes. We looked them carefully right after it was handed. But they were found to be only ordinary clothes from the low civilization planet. There was nothing special with its materials either, rather..”

The person paused. “..they were one of low quality. The jeans were even ripped. It seems he’s someone who can’t even afford to buy new clothes for himself.”

The person’s tone was tinged with slight pity, it made the corner of Lei’s mouth twitched ever so slightly.

He really wanted to shout ..what low quality?! That was the most expensive brand in my country! And they’re ripped jeans! They’re supposed to look like that! Don’t you know anything about fashion?!

But in the end, he restrained himself. It wouldn’t do him any good if he suddenly reveal himself without knowing his situation.

“Take me to them, I’ll look them again just in case. We can’t afford to miss anything. If nothing still comes out, it can only mean that the thing was hidden in his body.”

“Y-yes, yes. That’s we think too. We’ll show you his medical record and x-ray result. This way, please.”

The door closed once again and the room returned to its quiet state. This time, Lei waited for an entire 10 minutes before opening his eyes. He tried getting up again and as expected, failed. Anectine, huh. Isn’t that a paralytic drug used in patients on hospitals during surgery? No wonder his body couldn’t move. Nevertheless, his worry earlier was really useless, he doesn’t need to plan his future being a cripple at all.

To be able to make him fully recover from a critical state in just a month, the technology here seemed to be rather good. Even a hundred times better than Earth (?) He wasn’t sure if their method of injecting him paralytic drug everyday have a side effect on his body, though.

That brief conversation gave Lei a rough idea as to what his situation was. He was brought here from the beast planet a month ago. He must’ve suffered a serious injury from his fall, making his condition critical. He sighed. Honestly, I really thought I could only become a meat paste after falling that day. Surviving up to now was really a miracle. He also learned that the person who saved him was called Ms. Emily. I should find a way to thank her in the future.

This place seemed to be in an either interplanetary or interstellar, or even intergalactic era given the fact that they can travel through planets and their super high technology. And it also seemed to be somehow connected to Earth, hence, their language. In fact, there is a possibility that he really might be on Earth- only, on a different era.

Everyone seems to think of him as some kind of superhuman with some strange ability, enough for them to pay him more attention and special treatment.

But if Lei really was someone with some kind ability whatsoever, I’m afraid he wouldn’t have not known it until now. He was a hundred percent certain he was nothing out of the ordinary. There was nothing special about him at all.

Although looking at it from another point of view, there was really no way for him to blame them. From their tone, they were very certain that he was someone from what they call low civilization planet. Low civilization planet must be a place with worst technology and with no way of traveling through space and the Earth where he came from indeed can indeed be considered one. But how did they know he was from a low civilization planet? Is there a certain indicator that can for his identity? Does it have something to do with the pressure he felt earlier?

Whatever it was, it made his current existence somewhat special.

Someone like him, a person from a low civilization planet, suddenly ending up in another planet, with only those ‘low quality’ clothes, I’m afraid the only explanation would be either he has a spatial ability or he has some kind of device that can make him travel through space.

They weren’t able to find any strange devices on him so it can’t be the latter. Now, it can only be him, having a spatial ability.

But how could that be? Lei knew that wasn’t the case either. Else, with such great ability, if he really has it, he would’ve already used it by now.

Space travelling device is really impossible. As he mentioned earlier, Earth from his timeline is only a low civilization planet. Astronomers in his time haven’t even made it out of the solar system up to this day, how could he, an ordinary employee of a publishing company, have something like a device for travelling in space?! Even if he was born a genius, doing that would still be too much for him.

So in the end, what was the reason for this miraculous thing to happen, then? Lei gave a mocking smile. Please don’t ask him for answers. He, himself, really have also no idea.

They must feel really disappointed when they realized that I was only an ordinary Earthling that couldn’t be any more ordinary. Will they vomit blood when that time comes? I wonder..

Anyway, whether they vomit blood or not, that situation wouldn’t be anything favorable to him. He needs to find a way to get out of here quickly. But how? He can’t move and could only keep pretending to be unconscious. He can’t do this for long either otherwise they might really disposed him sooner for being useless and waste of space. Not to mention, with their technology, they’ll soon realize that he was nothing but a scam. What will happen to him by then? Lei’s head started to ache.

“You’re awake. That’s good. Are you hungry?” Lei’s expression immediately stiffened. He didn’t realized when someone entered the room at all. More importantly, the pressure she emits is slightly higher than the two who just left. The person saw his panic and vigilance and seemed to know what he was thinking. She laugh softly.

“Your mind seemed to be preoccupied, my child. The nurse told me that you haven’t regained your consciousness so I didn’t knock. Please forgive my presumptuousness.” It was an old woman. She looks to be in her seventies. Her demeanor was very elegant and she was carrying a lunch box on her hand, smiling at him gently.

Lei immediately gathered his wits. He replied, flustered “..oh no, no, no! Not at all. I was just wondering where I was..” he paused, hesitating whether to continue or not. The old woman smiled, seemingly knowing what he wanted to ask.

“I am called Ms. Emily. You’re currently on the royal medical institute in the Roswald Planet, the capital of Bauer Empire.” She pause before continuing, “I was in the beast planet to find some herbs when I found you. You were lying unconscious on a riverside and a newborn Blazing Blue Wave was pecking on your face. You have been unconscious for exactly a month.”

Lei was surprise upon hearing this. So she was the one who saved me? I thought Ms. Emily would be a some good-looking sister.. Lei felt a slight disappointment. His expectation was completely crushed.

Ms. Emily observed his reactions. Seeing his surprise look, followed by his blank face, Ms. Emily thought he was still in shocked and didn’t get her words so she directly asked, “My child, do you know the Blazing Blue Wave?”

In fact, Lei already recognized this point the moment she said this but he had to pretend he was still in great shock, otherwise, with his current situation, it’ll be very strange if he’s not. “Blazing Blue Wave?”

She said it was a newborn. Was it that adorable ‘little’ bird I saw that day?

“That’s right. It’s an extremely rare, beautiful gigantic bird with golden beak and blue feathers like waves and a red tail.” Ms. Emily gently wave her hand. A 3D hologram of a bird, the same as what Lei saw appeared.

She quietly looked at his expression from beginning to end, not wanting to miss any subtle changes. Upon seeing the look of amazement, followed by fear on his face, she confirmed her initial conjecture. He seemed to be really blown away by that huge explosion.

She subconsciously breathed a sigh of relief before saying, “Such a huge explosion, my child, you must’ve been scared. The distance between the river and the explosion was quite big. It seems you were blown quite far away.”

Lei recalled the explosion but he didn’t try to correct her. He have no intention of telling her the truth and was only trying to act the way a person like him would logically would. He was in an unknown place all by himself, after all. Being cautious and vigilant is must. He can’t afford to placing his trust on others so easily and put himself in danger afterwards. He wasn’t an idiot. Even if it was the person who saved him, he couldn’t bear to be careless. Without the knowing this world’s circumstances, saying things mindlessly would only cause him endless trouble, especially with his current identity.

Lei was silent for a while. His face was blank. He seemed to be really traumatized, remembering the event. After a while, he sighed before seemingly suddenly remembering something crucial, “B-but.. h-how would a bird like that come to find me?”

This time, Ms. Emily was finally convinced. A person like this couldn’t possibly be a Federation spy. Even if he was pretending, it shouldn’t be like this.

She replied gently. “It must’ve seen you when it hatched from its egg. The explosion was quite huge. Its nest must’ve been shaken. We tried to find its mother but she seemed to be also frightened by the explosion and had already took her nest to fly away. She must’ve not even realize that her child have fallen from the nest and was missing. We initially wanted to leave it there but it cling tightly to your body and wouldn’t let go. We were afraid it would crush you so we could only take it away.”

She spoke very slowly, sighing deeply right after. Lei immediately recalled that adorable ‘little’ bird which was almost the same size as him. He suddenly felt his paralyzed body ached. Is this what they call imprinting? Does this mean I now have a son? Or was it daughter? Heh. How ridiculous?! Ms. Emily saw his expression slightly twisted and thought that he must be feeling exhausted by the turn of events. She took the food she brought with over to him and told him to eat before going to rest. Lei nodded rather absentmindedly and thanked her. She only smiled gently and quietly left the room.

Lei was hesitating whether to eat the food or not. This new environment really made him too cautious of everything. After thinking about it, he still decided to eat in the end.

The old woman didn’t look like someone who would poison the person she saved. And given his current position, it was simply not feasible. Besides, being unconscious for a month, he was really feeling hungry. After eating, he drifted back to sleep.

He was sure there were no monitors here, otherwise, they would’ve known he already woke up earlier so he didn’t have to worry about being watched to sleep. And, with his body currently paralyzed, he couldn’t really do anything other than. Moreover, he was really tired. He could only hope that Ms. Emily would tell the doctor to undo the drug for him.
