Chapter 173

|| Elinda's POV ||

I leaned against the side of the hospital window, my arms firmly around Elias, who had just begun to sleep once more. His small fingers curled into my chest, and I could feel the increase of his fever slowing. The pale light filtered in through the glass, illuminating his soft face.

I hadn't slept in a century, or so. At least, that's how it felt, and yet. Watching him breathe, safe, made the agony within my chest a little more bearable.

Then. I saw him.

From the slightly open curtain, my eyes caught Alexis. He was leaving. In silence.

I didn't move.

A chill creep descended down my spine, and of course I held Elias tighter to me. His small, fragile body rested on my chest, but my mind wasn't here now.

Why did it feel like a farewell?

I blinked the idea away. No. No, I wasn't going there. Not again. I kissed my lips onto Elias's hair, grounding myself in his scent. My child. My world. That was what mattered. Nothing more.

"Mommy?" Elias whispered softly

  • Hunted By My Rejected Mate   chapter 174

    Chapter 174 || ALBERTO's POV ||I stood in the middle of my personal mansion, the silence so dense it was suffocating. Clara lay asleep on the enormous bed in the room's center, her face white, her lips parted as if she was panting even in sleep.I had brought her here because this was the one place where no one would be looking for her—not Blake, no one. My own mansion was buried deep in Lycan lands, protected by powerful runes and guarded by warriors who took orders from me alone. No one would be brave enough to disobey my orders here.None of that mattered now, though. The Lycans' best healer had already checked her out. He was standing right beside me a moment ago, his hands glowing softly as he read her energy stream. I could still sense his words resonating in my head, heavy and immovable."She's been doing spells for years," he had said, his voice commanding but with a hint of anxiety underlying it. "Her body can no longer absorb power the way that it needs to. Her channels a

    Chapter 172|| ALEXIS'S POV || I sat quietly alongside Elias's bed, watching the monitors flash regularly like the heartbeat of a machine working too hard to keep calm. But I wasn't going to be calm—not after what had happened. I wrapped my hand around the frigid metal frame of his hospital bed, fingers tightening as the vision played itself out again and again in my head.I'd gone to Elinda's apartment building earlier in the day. I'd just exited the elevator when I caught a glimpse of movement out of the corner of my eye—a small figure hanging around the side alley.It was Elias.I didn’t even have time to knock on Elinda’s door. The kid had slipped out. I’d called his name once—just once—but he didn’t hear me. He kept walking, and then it happened.The world stopped.The screeching tires. The roar of a car that wasn’t going to stop in time.I did not think. My body acted quicker than my mind did. I ran, fast enough to stop him just as he was crossing onto the road. I pulled him ba

    Chapter 171|| Alberto's POV ||The room went silent, so thick that I could've gagged on it. I felt like it was wrapping around my chest as I watched the show in front of me. Catherine stood next to me, her mouth open, and her mother, who had been a moment ago in some kind of trance, shook off the haze, taking a desperate gasping breath.Clara stood rigid, her arms loose at her sides, but her eyes—those unblinking, piercing ones—still glowed faintly with a nameless shimmer. "What… what did you do to me?" Catherine's mother screamed suddenly, her voice shattering. She clutched her head as though something was still pressing upon her brain. "What did you DO?"Clara didn't blink. Didn't react. Didn't even appear surprised. Just.Catherine jumped in before I could. "She's a witch!" she spat, pointing at Clara a trembling finger. "Alberto, she's wicked! She did something to my mother—look at her!"I glanced once more at Clara. Her face was like stone, as if she was already a thousand mile

  • Hunted By My Rejected Mate   chapter 170

    Chapter 170|| ALBERTO's POV ||I stood by the council hall window.My head was heavy with the tension from the last week, but peace never lingered for long within this damned kingdom. Before it was too late, I heard mad foot stamping outside the door before the guards flung it open.Catherine flung herself into the room without waiting for him to invite her in. "She's gone mad, Alberto!" she hissed, pacing in front of me with her fists balled up at her sides. "Clara threatened my mom. She came to our house. Said we were covering something!"I did not accept it initially. I watched her face instead. "Just. seemed?" I said carelessly, folding my arms."Yes!" Catherine burst out, then crossed her eyes and said, "I insist that she be punished. This sort of thing cannot be tolerated, even from your. favorite."The way she said "favorite" did not escape me. "Did she hurt anyone?" I asked."No," she answered after a moment, "but threatening to hurt Luna's mother is more than enough, don't

  • Hunted By My Rejected Mate   chapter 169

    Chapter 169|| CLARA'S POV ||The air was crisp in the mornings, the sort of air that cleared the mind—today was no exception. Today, my head throbbed with questions I had been unable to purge any longer. The previous two nights I had been going over every memory, every whisper, every glance exchanged during council meetings. The compact between our pack and Catherine's—it couldn't have been what they claimed it was. And I'd had enough of being the only one kept in the dark.I found Mikhail in his study, his back to me, hunched over his messy desk. I had no time for niceties. "Was there a deal between our pack and Catherine's?" My voice cut through the silence like a cutlass.He did not blink. "Yes," he said matter-of-factly. "There was.""So it is true," I complained, pacing back and forth in front of his desk slowly. "You've been working with Catherine's relatives.""Not behind yours, Clara," he answered firmly. "We all agreed on it. You were. not there when the decision was made
