What happened to Karen scared the hell out of me. The fact that my actions could have caused me to lose her put a lot of things into perspective. I didn't know how important Karen was until I saw her bruised tummy. I knew I wouldn't be able to let the issue with the pimps go, but there was no way I was going to let Karen know I wasn't going to let them go. I intended to demolish the building and have them locked up for criminal activities. I didn't mind setting them up, anything to get them off Karen's back.

Karen was going to leave the next day. Initially, I wanted to visit her only during the weekends, but my mother's visit made me change my mind.

I snuck out of bed to discuss the pimps and other matters with Gavin. Karen looked so peaceful that I knew waking her would be a crime.

Gavin was watching the ball game in my recreational room with a bottle of scotch.

"Couldn't sleep," he confessed, knowing that I was the one that had entered. I took a glass and went to join him.
