Chapter Seven: The Detectives

As she always did once a week, Sergeant Norma Pine was in the NYPD shooting range, practicing with her Glock 9mm. She had already emptied two clips when her partner and mentor, Lt. Roy Rodiak, came looking for her. He knew that she would be there, like every Tuesday morning, practicing. He waited for her to empty the clip, then touched her shoulder. She immediately turned around and when she saw him she smiled at him, taking off her hearing protectors.

“I see you've decided to practice again,” she told him, readying her Glock again. “I’m glad.”

“Don't get so excited,” Roy told her. “Come on, we have work.”

Norma Pine is twenty-eight years old, ten of whom in the police force. She had recently managed to reach the rank of sergeant with a lot of work, effort and dedication.
