That night the brothers were all gathered together around the great fire for a meeting. I walked behind Groban and sat beside him on a tree stump around the warm fire. I didn’t look up but noticed a lot of unhappy eyes on me, Dax was the first to pass a remark.
“Seriously Groban, now you have to bring her to our meetings too. This is strictly for brothers not vermin,” Glaring at him Groban smirked,
“Dax, I would gladly leave her in my cabin but, for the life of me I can’t seem to figure out why you can’t stay away from my cabin all of a sudden,” Narrowing his eyes at Groban, Dax scoffed but said nothing.
Ward entered the circle and took his place at the head of everyone else, he had two elders on his left and three on his right. Swallowing hard I clenched my jaw. I always kept my eyes down not to let on what I was, if I dared look up I would be dead where I sat, Dax and the brothers would kill me.

The next morning as I stood preparing breakfast there was a knock at the door, I instantly felt a lump in my throat as I gasped, I stared at the door as I clenched my jaw but I didn’t make any advances toward going to open it. Groban wasn’t here and he definitely wouldn’t be knocking anyways. Again there was a knock at the door, sighing I decided to slowly make my way over to it. Groban was lying on the kitchen floor where he collapsed shortly after both ward and I had basically helped to carry him from the front door, my eyes had scanned outside briefly across the snow and there was blood splotches in a path in the white soft snow as he had stammered toward safety. He was covered in blood all over, his chest, his face, down his arms and legs. It looked like he had fought hard against whatever or whomever had attacked him. Ward had him on his back as he ripped at his shirt to see the extent of the damage, and I felt helpless in that moment as I gasped at the sight of all the blood the moment I saw his chest. I felt my body begin to tremble as I wrapped my hands around his one hand, I sobbed as I shushed him saying, “It’s okay, it’s okay, it’s going to be okay,” he groaned as he winced in pain and agony at the sudden contact of Ward as he inspected the wounds more closely, and a part of me wanted to smack Ward away, to stop him from hu

Groban POV When I came too I expected to see Lay right beside me, but she wasn’t. Instead I turned to see Ward sitting on a kitchen chair with his arms slung over his knees gingerly wiping at the dry blood against his hands with a cloth, clearly my dry blood, I thought as my brows furrowed. “How long have I been out?” I mumbled as I slowly sat up to inspect my chest, it had completely healed which wasn’t surprising I suppose. Groban POVI darted through the snow in the direction in the direction of where I knew Laya would have gone, my heart was beating hard in my chest. Laya POVI followed the trail to where it began in the snow, Groban’s bloody trail grew immensely the further I went. Laya POV Groban wasn’t talking to me, I could hear him pacing up and down in the cell next to me and I wondered whether or not he would eventually create a trench with the number of times I heard him marching, the velocity of his determination, and frustration was suffocating me with each and every stride.
