Damian's POV

Minutes later, I entered the council chamber. The elders were already gathered, their faces tight with anticipation. Elara was seated quietly on her regal chair, calm and poised in a silky navy-blue blouse, legs crossed, eyes devoid of warmth.

I hated how stunning she looked even in the middle of this chaos.

“Alpha Damian,” Elder Gregory, the ever courageous one, began, “We’ll get straight to the point. Do you deny that Kael, your appointed Beta, is the son of the Rogue King?”

I stood tall like I had planned to. “Yes, I deny it. I had no prior knowledge—”

“That's strange,” Elder Marlow cut in smoothly, narrowing his eyes. “We all know you grew up in the Rogue Kingdom. You trained with their generals. Surely, you must have seen the boy before.”

My jaw tightened as I realised that there was really no way out of this “I… I lived with a couple in the village. I have never been to the Rogue palace, so I couldn't have known the prince."

“Convenient.” Another elder scoffed. "I f

Elara's POV "How?" I snapped, my voice rising with frustration. This is not what I wanted to hear. No... every minute that was spent delaying the truth of what happened that night made my heart skip a beat and set my nerves on edge. I could feel it, like a slick heat in my veins that this was part of a larger conspiracy. "He's working towards it and promised to give me good news soon." Her voice was hopeful but unfortunately hope and time wasn't really on my side. "He better do," I said sharply. "He charged such a fortune but yet he is slacking. You tell him to hurry up, or else I will employ someone more capable." My patience was wearing thin that I'm starting to think he is not as good as I think he is. Even the files, he hadn't decrypted them... "Yes... Luna." Then her face shifted as if she was contemplating whether to say something or not. "What?" She hesitated before speaking, "I know you trusted Gomez more than anyone else but what if he is not as innocent as he claimed.

ELARA'S POV "I'm so sorry, Elara," the doctor said, stepping closer to me with a folder bearing my name in her hand. "Your wounds won't heal because the cancer is back. More severe than ever. The fangs that injured your neck are poisonous and have penetrated deeper into your system, increasing the cancerous cells." I blinked several times, unbelievably. Not because I didn't hear the doctor's words but because I wish all of this was a nightmare. A bad nightmare that I would wake up from soon. But unfortunately, this is real. The shit, the disaster befall me over and over again. And in other words, Damian was the cause of this. He had never done that before so I didn't know that his fangs were poisonous. That beast. If he didn't injure me, I would still be living in the delusion that I was totally fine and that was better than an outright death sentence. "What?....." I managed to choke out the words, despite the tightness in my throat. "Why? I thought the potion healed me." Tea

Author's POV Damian's chest pounded as he burst into the forest, the trees swallowing him in a blur of motion. He didn’t stop running—his blood boiling, his mind a storm. He shifted on the run, fur erupting from his skin as his bones cracked and reshaped. In minutes, his wolf towering beast of dark fur and blazing eyes—tore through the underbrush with primal speed. He ran, his paws thudding on the clearing floor but he didn’t stop. He circled it once, twice, up to the tenth time, rage burning through his veins. Every heartbeat echoed with betrayal. With defiance. With Elara. With the Elders. It was crystal clear that they never considered him as their king. They still think they could dethrone him the moment anything goes wrong. They still see him as a Rogue who probably just got lucky but he won't let them do that anymore. But the more he ran, the more the fire dimmed. The beast inside him panted, exhausted—not just from the physical strain, but from the emotional weight of it a

Elara’s POV I had planned these moments. I looked forward to it more than anything. It was so satisfying. So rewarding. Moon... bless the private investigator—he even got me a recent picture of Kael and his father, where they were more recognisable with striking resemblance than the old one I had found. And Elder Seraphina really did a good job circulating those pictures. I knew she was the perfect person to use when it comes to spreading news in the palace. She knows every worker and knows just the best way to convince them to do her bidding. The hall was thick with tension, the elders frowned and I knew there was no way he was getting out of this, especially with my indisputable testimonial. I didn't miss the way he had looked up at me to save him, to cover up for him like I always did but I didn't. Not anymore. He betrayed me first, sold me out and I was merely returning the favour. I wasn't done yet. Little by little, I would reveal how he took over the throne and company whe

Damian's POVThe palace halls were quieter than normal. An eerie stillness hummed in the atmosphere—a silence before a storm, one so suffocating that breathing became difficult. Standing, by the window in my office, different thoughts that I couldn’t shake off swirled my mind.Elara.The look she had given me this morning is still fresh in my memories, burning behind my eyelids. Cold. Detached. Not even anger anymore. Just apathy. That was worse. Much worse. I feared her silence more than her rage. And it was all my fault. All my fucking fault.Days ago we were cool together, in fact I didn't miss the smile on her face when I was car racing and the trust inn her eyes when I promised to find out the truth about our child's death. But today we've become sworn enemies again. How did it come to this? How did everything go wrong?I had hoped that gradually we would build back everything between us but it seems we can't. It's too late or perhaps we are too hurt for that. I trusted Lyra to
