Chapter 4

Anka didn't stop her. Instead, he simply looked at me with a meaningful gaze.

How interesting.

Anka and Stella had always believed I possessed the power to remove the toxin.

Liam and Camilla, however, remained convinced that I was nothing more than a fraud.

After a long silence, Anka finally turned to face Liam.

"If you insist on choosing Camilla as your mate, I won't stop you.

"But if your toxin isn't cured, then the position of Silver Moon Pack's next Alpha, and every authority that comes with it, will be passed to Nolan."

The smug expression on Liam's face vanished instantly.

He shot to his feet and pointed at me. Fury blazed in his eyes.

"Evelyn! What did you do? Did you manipulate Grandpa somehow?"

I pushed his hand aside impatiently.

"I'm only a healing witch. Unlike Camilla, I don't manipulate people's thoughts and actions."

Liam couldn't accept the possibility of losing the future Alpha's position. He also couldn't accept that I no longer wanted him.

"Evelyn! I'll give you one last chance!

"If you admit right now that you've never been capable of curing poisonings, I'll let you spend the rest of your life peacefully in the shrine.

"Otherwise, when the toxin erupts inside Nolan, I'll expose your lies in front of everyone and turn you into the laughingstock of all werewolf kind!"

The familiar threat sent a chill down my spine.

I reached out and helped Stella to her feet before she could kneel.

"I'll become Nolan's mate."

Overcome with joy, Stella immediately wanted to take me to Nolan's residence.

Before leaving, I looked at the deeply troubled Anka and, out of one final shred of goodwill, offered a warning.

"The high priestess returned from her travels today. Perhaps you could ask her to personally examine Camilla's healing potion."

Camilla's expression immediately changed. She raised her voice.

"Evelyn, what are you implying? My potion has been tested over and over. There's absolutely no way it could go wrong!"

She turned to face Stella.

"Stella, I'd think twice if I were you. If she truly possessed the power of purification, why would she help Nolan?

"Rather than trusting her, you'd be better off finding another witch before the toxin completely erupts."

Anka shot her a cold glance.

"Are you questioning my judgment?"

Camilla's face immediately turned pale. Liam stepped protectively in front of her.

"I trust Camilla. Her potion doesn't need anyone's verification!"

Stella tightened her grip on my hand and glanced coldly at Camilla.

"It seems you're not confident enough in your herbal skills to let the high priestess examine your potion.

"Our affairs are none of your concern."

Camilla bit her lip. Her expression was dark, but she dared not say another word.

Seeing her wronged, Liam's expression turned cold.

"Stella, perhaps you should worry more about Nolan. Given his status, he may not even be qualified to become Alpha."

"How dare you?"

Anka slammed his palm onto the long table. He was reaching his limits.

The very next second, Liam suddenly groaned and collapsed onto the floor. His body convulsed violently.

Veins bulged beneath his skin, his eyes turned bloodshot, and the wolf spirit within him began raging uncontrollably.

As things descended into chaos, my gaze landed on the strange black markings spreading rapidly across his neck.

I smiled.

"It seems Camilla's healing potion has failed."
