"Pup, what pup?!" I roared from within, utterly inflamed eyes shifted between my mate and his mistress.

Liliana's face scrunched with pain as she folded over Caden's thigh, in a single breath he scooped her from the bed like she was made of ice.

"My moonlight..." He said looking into her face as he held her princess style, she reached up to cup his cheek but halfway true her hand slumped and she continued to wince.

It was all too much, I was right here and the man that was meant to be mine was fawning over this tramp!

"Caden..." I called helplessly, calling for his attention.

But he wasn't even looking at me, his eyes were all over her, with a tenderness I'd never seen.

The Caden I knew was stoic and hardened like a blade's edge. All these years I filtered through his actions convinced my affections were reciprocated, now I see what this all was.

I was never the one for him.

He just let me believe that.

Caden finally looked at me, all the tenderness in his eyes gone, replaced with staggering spite.

"You better pray to the moon goddess that no harm comes to this woman Serena, or else..." He left the rest of the threat dangling then brushed past me like I was furniture.

He was gone.

His scent fading, my heart aching and my wolf wailing.

This was not how tonight was supposed to go.

I've waited for so long, all for this?!

My feet wobbled until they caved to the stress and I collapsed in a fit of tears, mascara running as I cried myself senseless.

This was too much.

If it had been just a one night stand I would have no choice but to put my pride aside and remain by his side as his infidelity remained like a perpetual dagger lodged in my heart.

But the way he looked at her like she was life, love and everything in between. I couldn't remember when he had ever looked at me like that.

She was pregnant, and it made my heart sink deeper knowing who the father was without asking.

•••••

"Why are you still asleep?" I was awakened by a pail of ice cold water dumped over me, sending sharp shivers over my skin and forcing me to violently upright, a chill penetrating my soaked clothes.

"Belinda?" I recognized my mother in law, she stood hands crossed, behind her was a shivering servant holding a pail.

"You didn't answer my question, why are you still asleep?" She yelled at me.

Her tone shocked me, Belinda treated me like her daughter. Where was all of this anger coming from?

I stood up from the floor where I had unceremoniously fallen asleep last night, too hurt emotionally and physically to drag myself to bed.

Icy water was still dripping from my clothes to the floorboard, my surprise was slowly slipping into anger.

Had both mother and son lost their minds?

"Belinda, why would you tell a servant to dump cold water on me?"

She huffed; "because you deserve it for sleeping here while my son is in the hospital right now,"

Every singular muscle in my body went taunt, last night replayed in my head the pain of his betrayal came crushing down with me like a wave.

"Did he tell you why he was in the hospital?" I asked, barely getting the words out.

She waved the servant out of my room then turned back to me saying what shattered what was left of my world.

"I'm his mother of course he tells me everything."

I staggered back, nearly sliding off my balance but somehow managing to keep both legs planted on the floor.

"You knew?" I said the words barely a whisper. "For how long?"

"I've known from the beginning," she said without a hint of guilt in her eyes.

I ran my fingers through my wet hair digging in till I felt my scalp being scraped by my fingernails, my wolf was beginning to stir again.

"Why didn't you say anything Belinda? It's been 3 years!" I screamed at the top of my voice. She just rolled her eyes like I was overreacting.

"You had failed to live up to your responsibilities and my son considered other options, instead of being angry you should be thanking him," the ground was spinning the more she spoke.

"Thanking him? While I was here running the pack for him? Keeping everything together so it wouldn't fall apart like a stack of cards? Grinding myself to nothing? Wasn't that supposed to mean something to him?"

She waved her hand in the air like there was an incessant fly hovering around her face.

"Enough with that, I've had the lion share of the work and you contributed once in a while stop acting like I dumped everything on you,"

But you did. The thought ran through my mind. Not just her but the Beta's mate too. Everything from budgeting for the pack to meeting those stuck up elders fell to me while they were only available for get- togethers, galas and other parties that I had to arrange.

However I had never uttered a peep of a complaint, anytime I got tired I would imagine Caden's face smiling at me for the first time proud that I had been able to keep the pack together in his absence.

But turns out I've just been a fool.

"This can't be happening to me..." I said trying to sit down but she grabbed me by my arm holding me upright.

"What do you think you are doing right now?"

I looked at her, too swollen with pain to speak, only yesterday she had spoken to me kindly saying I was the daughter she never had and she couldn't wait for her son to come back and officially claim me as his mate.

She had said a variation of that over the past 3 years all of it lies.

"Leave me be!" I said too tired to even fight out of her grip, then what she said next came like a blow to my goat.

"How can you think of sitting?Get up, we're going to see  Liliana in the hospital”

**Serena’s POV**He stepped into the room without invitation, his presence sucking the air from the space like a void. He didn't look at Penelope or Gale; his cold, calculating eyes fixed solely on me, as if the rest of us were mere shadows unworthy of notice. The advisor’s dark, tailored robes whispered against the stone floor with every measured step, the Obsidian crest embroidered on his chest gleaming ominously in the torchlight."The King has been made aware of the situation," the advisor stated, his voice completely devoid of emotion, flat as the edge of a blade. "He is aware of the debt. He is aware of the attempt to hide the collateral. And he is aware of the pathetic, desperate state of this pack."He held up the leather-bound folder like a weapon, the embossed crest catching the flickering light. "I have the Obsidian half of the treaty here. The signatures are authentic. The blood-pact is verified. There is no escape from this covenant, girl. Not for your father. Not for you

  • I Became the Obsidian Lycan King’s Obsession    Chapter 30

Serena’s POVThe silence in the tower was no longer just empty; it was a weight, pressing down on my lungs until every breath felt like a struggle against the air itself. Penelope was curled into a ball on the stone floor, her silent tears soaking into her dress, while I paced the limited length of the chamber. The historian’s words—the collateral, the promise, the final entry—played over and over in my mind like a broken record. I wasn't just a daughter. I wasn't just a rejected mate. I was a debt. A commodity to be bartered, traded, and claimed by the highest bidder."He came for me," I whispered, the reality finally sinking into my bones. "He didn't come for the pack. He didn't come for my father's taxes. He came because he knew I was here.""What are we going to do?" Penelope asked, her voice small and broken. "If he takes you, he’ll take you to the capital. He’ll lock you away in an Obsidian fortress. You’ll never be free, Serena.""I am not going anywhere," I snapped, then im

Serena’s POVThe heavy iron door of the high tower groaned, pulling me from a cold sleep. I sat up quickly, my heart hammering against my ribs. The stone floor was freezing, biting through my thin clothes. Penelope shifted beside me in the dark, her eyes fluttering open in raw panic."Who is there?" I called out, my voice echoing in the small room. I moved in front of my sister, shielding her with my body.A hooded figure slipped through the narrow gap before the heavy door clicked shut. The noise cut off the harsh draft. The figure lowered his dark hood, revealing the pale face of Arthur, the pack historian. He held a flickering candle in one hand and a thick book tucked tightly under his other arm."Arthur?" I whispered, scrambling to my feet. I rubbed my arms to ward off the chill. "How did you get past the guards? If my father catches you here, he will kill you.""The guards are distracted," Arthur replied, his voice a breathless, frightened rasp. He placed the candle on a smal

Serena’s POVThe dawn light was gray and thin when the tower door finally creaked open. It wasn't my father. It was an elderly servant, his hands trembling as he brought in a tray of cold porridge. He didn't look me in the eye, his gaze fixed firmly on the dusty floorboards."Eat," he muttered. "The Alpha is busy with the King’s morning council. You have an hour of exercise in the inner courtyard. Do not attempt to leave."He turned to leave, but I stepped into his path, my voice low and urgent. "Wait. I need to see Arthur. The pack historian. Please."The old man’s face went pale. "The historian is in the archives, but he is not to be disturbed, especially by—""Tell him it is about the Obsidian seal," I interrupted, my heart pounding. "Tell him the truth about the debt is coming out."The servant hesitated, his eyes darting toward the heavy door. He knew the risks. He knew that my father’s wrath was a fire that consumed everything in its path. But he also knew the rumors. He knew th

  • I Became the Obsidian Lycan King’s Obsession    Chapter 27

Serena’s POVThe high tower was a cold, stone cage. The air smelled of wet moss and old secrets. My father had thrown us inside with a brutality that left my skin bruised, then locked the massive iron door. I sat on the floor, my back against the wall, listening to the wind howl outside. My head throbbed. I had lost the papers, and Gale was gone. Everything we had fought for was unraveling in the dark.Penelope was pacing the small room like a trapped animal. "He’s going to kill us, Serena. He doesn't care anymore. The King is here, and he knows we saw the truth.""He won't kill us yet," I said, my voice hoarse. "He needs the marriage to happen first. He needs his debt cleared. We are his leverage, Pen. As long as he needs that payoff, we are alive."The heavy door groaned on its hinges, and a sliver of torchlight cut through the gloom. My father stepped into the room. He didn't look like an Alpha now; he looked like a tired, bitter man who had run out of lies. He didn't say a word

  • I Became the Obsidian Lycan King’s Obsession    Chapter 26

Serena’s POVThe hallway was a graveyard of shadows, silent and suffocating. My pulse thumped against my ears like a war drum, a frantic rhythm that seemed to echo through the cold, stone walls. Gale crouched before the heavy oak desk, his lockpick gleaming like a tiny, silver fang in the thin moonlight. Penelope stood guard at the door, her small, pale hands trembling as she scanned the darkness for any sign of movement. She looked terrified, a trapped bird waiting for the cat to pounce."Hurry," she whispered, her voice a sharp needle of panic that pricked at my nerves."I have it," Gale muttered, his brow furrowed in concentration. The lock groaned, a metallic protest that sounded like a scream in the quiet room. It was a stubborn, ancient thing, resistant to our intrusion. Then, with a soft, final click, the heavy drawer slid open.I leaned in, my breath catching in my throat. My hands were shaking so violently I had to press them against my thighs to steady them. Inside lay a st

Serena’s POVThe cabin felt like a cold, hollow shell. I sat at the small, wobbly table, the wooden surface rough beneath my palms. My hands were shaking, but I forced myself to grip the pen.
