Chapter 2

Author: Lotus Seed
Eliana lowered her head and wiped the table. She didn't dare look at me.

I walked over and gently stroked her hair.

"Eliana. I'm too lonely. I need someone by my side. Will you stay with me forever?"

She finally looked up. Tears welled in her eyes and slid down her cheeks.

After a long silence, she threw her arms around me. She sounded more determined than ever.

"I will always stay by your side."

I felt very touched.

Was this what it felt like to be loved?

My days in Bellflower Town were the most peaceful I had ever known.

I helped Eric handle Pack affairs, including morning meetings, disputes, and patrol arrangements. When we had free time, I took Eliana out to explore the town.

Raising a child was nothing short of magical.

Watching her grow was like a healing process for myself.

I seemed to have permanently left Derek and Dominic behind in the Blood Moon Pack. They were sealed away in a distant memory.

Perhaps they were equally relieved to be finally free of me.

Days passed.

Eliana eventually reached the age to attend the werewolf academy.

Less than a week later, I received a complaint call from her instructor.

He said Eliana had gotten into a fight during combat training.

After hanging up, I frowned in confusion.

Eliana had always been calm and steady. She never caused trouble. She even thought most werewolves her age were immature. She wouldn't bother arguing with them.

Why would she get into a fight?

I quickly made my way to the academy.

The instructor met me at the gate. Exhaustion was written all over his face.

"The kid she fought with is a transfer student. He just arrived today."

I nodded and asked, "What did he do? Eliana is usually very well-behaved."

The instructor frowned and gave me a puzzled look.

"He's an Alpha's son, Dominic."

The familiar name made me freeze.

"During class, Dominic caught your scent on Eliana. She said it was her mother's scent. Dominic claimed she stole his mother. That's how it escalated."

"What did you say?"

They fought?

I had trained Eliana all these years, but an Alpha's child was born with stronger instincts and raw power.

Besides, Eliana was only an Omega.

She wasn't Dominic's match.

Realizing that, I ran toward the office as fast as I could.

I pushed the door open. As expected, Eliana stood in the corner. Her shoulders were still trembling. There were scratch marks on her face, and blood seeped through her open wound.

Before I could call her name, the boy sitting in the chair saw me. His eyes lit up instantly.

He ran toward me and wrapped his arms around my leg.

"Mom!"

At that moment, a tall man pushed the door open behind him.

When Derek saw me, his eyes widened. He walked toward me quickly. "Leah, you–"

I ignored him. I gently pried Dominic's hands off me.

"Dominic, I'm not your mother."

Then I walked straight to the corner. Eliana's tear-filled eyes met mine. She said nothing.

Derek stood frozen and stared at my back.

When Dominic saw me pull away from him and move to protect Eliana, he burst into loud sobs.

"Mom! Why did you betray us? Why don't you want me anymore?"

Seeing the wounds on Eliana's face made my heart ache.

Behind me, Dominic's hysterical screaming made my wolf, Lucy, roar with fury. She wanted to lunge forward and tear him apart.

I tried to keep Lucy calm while carefully cleaning Eliana's wounds.

My silence only fueled Dominic's rage. He lunged at Eliana again.

"It's all your fault! You useless Omega! How dare you steal my mom? I'll kill you!"

Derek stepped forward quickly and grabbed Dominic's flailing claws. His tone remained as lofty as ever.

"Sorry, Leah. Dominic just misses you too much. Besides, this Omega started talking nonsense first. About this matter–"

Before he could finish, I cut him off coldly.

"Hello, Alpha Derek. I don't understand what you mean. I am Eliana's mother. She was not talking nonsense."

Derek stared at me in shock. Dominic stopped struggling too.

I calmly met Derek's gaze and smiled.

"Please keep your rude kid under control and have him apologize to mine."

I stared at Derek in shock and confusion. Derek bit his lip."There's been more and more trouble in the pack lately. Disputes are everywhere. Lisa can't handle things the way you used to. She can't manage anything with ease like you did."When Dominic gets sick, she panics. She can't even give him simple fever medicine without making a mistake."Leah."He called my name gently. For the first time, I saw something like tenderness in his eyes."I never realized this before, but my life is filled with traces of you. No matter how hard I try, I can't erase them."That was why they suddenly came looking for me, and that was why their attitude changed so quickly.I had never even wondered why they came back.It turned out they simply no longer had a capable maid to serve them.I felt nauseous. I stepped back to widen the distance between us."Derek, what you need is a competent maid, not me."His gaze flickered with hurt. He clenched his fists at his sides."What if I fell in lov

"No."My reply came out dry and flat.Derek's eyes welled up with tears. He reached out and tried to pull me into his arms."Let's stop fighting, okay? Come back. Let's spend my birthday with Dominic."Before he could touch me, a taller figure pressed down on his wrist."Have some self-respect, Derek.""Uncle Eric!"Eliana ran joyfully up to Eric, and he lifted her into his arms."Happy birthday, Uncle Eric!"Only then did Derek and Dominic realize how foolish their words and actions had been.Eric kissed me politely on the cheek. He was grinning from ear to ear."Darling, thank you for preparing such a wonderful birthday dinner for me."I smiled and looked at the two werewolves standing awkwardly at the door."Since you're already here, would you like to come in and celebrate Eric's birthday together?"Dominic froze. The cake slipped from his hands and fell to the ground with a thud.He took a step back, and he ended up tumbling down the steps behind him. He scraped his

The next morning, Dominic took the initiative to apologize to Eliana.Right then, Eric walked in. When he saw Dominic, he shot me a skeptical look."Well, well. So it's this little brat. I thought you'd already moved on."Dominic let out a defensive growl, but Eric simply lifted him up by the collar."Eliana's face hasn't healed yet. I got her a day off. I'll take this little brat to school.""I don't want to! I want Mom to take me!" Dominic flailed midair."Behave, you annoying little pup."Eric smacked his backside gently. He then turned to me with a bright grin."See you."He tossed Dominic into the car and drove off. After they left, Eliana asked discreetly, "Mom, do I have to be friends with Dominic?""Do you want to be friends with him?" I asked softly. I wasn't sure why she brought it up.She shook her head slowly. I was a little surprised. "Why not, sweetheart?"She took my hand in her small, soft one."Mom, I can feel that you're in pain when you're around him. I

Back then, thinking about these things felt like being slowly torn apart. Now, I felt nothing at all.Apparently, our quiet conversation had been overheard. Dominic ran out in tears."Mom, I was wrong! Don't abandon me."He threw himself into my arms.No matter how I tried to pry him off, he clung to me stubbornly.I looked to Derek for help.To my surprise, he only gave me a helpless look."If I could control him, we wouldn't be here."Dominic had been raised as the treasured heir of the Blood Moon Pack. He believed that he could have anything he ever wanted."How about this? Let him stay with you for a while. I can't stop him anyway," Derek said. Both father and son looked at me with expectation.I lowered my gaze and thought quietly for a long moment. Mary's voice echoed in my mind. 'Take good care of Dominic.'After a long pause, I smiled. "Alright."It wouldn't last long anyway. Soon enough, he would grow tired of this life.He would grow tired of me, his mother who

I couldn't even remember how I made it through that night. I was crying so hard. When I woke up, there were only two thoughts in my mind.'I've been marked.'I'm in unbearable pain.'He looked at me without saying much."You're my mate now," he said simply. Then he left.I sat on the couch in a daze. I slowly pieced my chaotic thoughts together. The entire night, he had been calling Lisa's name."Lisa, don't leave me. Will you be my mate?"He still loved Lisa.Meanwhile, I had become the sinner who stole their happiness. After we formed the mate bond, the maids' whispers inevitably reached me."That night, Lisa and Derek only had a small fight. Who would've thought Leah would take the chance to drug Derek's wine? She's shameless.""Why would Derek let that homewrecker become his mate?""Everyone knows Derek's heart belongs to Lisa."-The rumors made me the target of scorn throughout Blood Moon Pack. They believed what they wanted to believe. I never expected to run into the person I least wanted to see again like this.Derek's expression grew colder by the second. He seemed almost indifferent.Eliana subconsciously tightened her grip on my hand. She looked a little uneasy.I patted the back of her hand reassuringly.Derek remained silent. The air between us turned eerily still.I knew he was waiting for an explanation. So I used a mind-link to ask Eric to take Eliana home first."I ran into something. I need to sort it out. Please take care of Eliana for me."Eric agreed without hesitation."Eliana."I crouched down before smoothing her hair and packing up her backpack. I retrieved her favorite candy from my pocket."Go wait at the school gate for Uncle Eric, okay?""Mom." Eliana took a deep breath and asked carefully, "Will you come back?"I smiled. "You're my only child. If I don't come back to you, where else would I go?"Eliana smiled in relief. She nodded. She then picked up her backpack and ran toward
