Chapter 4

Author: Wren
To avoid making my parents worry, I did not go home. After dealing with the car, I took a cab to the hospital.

I did not know what kind of curse came with me returning to the past. I chose a random hospital, and the moment I walked into the lobby, I ran into Zayn and Yara.

They were surrounded by a crowd. It looked like they were in a standoff with someone.

At first, I did not intend to go in. But people were pushing out, and curious onlookers were pushing in. Before I knew it, I was pushed right next to Zayn.

That was when I saw it. A man in a hospital gown was holding a knife against Yara’s throat.

Zayn looked afraid, which was rare. He tried to calm the man down. “Don’t hurt her. I’ll give you anything you want.

“Or you can take someone else. She just had a car accident. She’s not useful as a hostage.”

The man looked at Yara. Her face was pale. She did not look like a good choice. “Then, who do you suggest?”

My heart sank. Before I could do anything, Zayn grabbed me and pushed me toward the man with the knife.

“Her! She’s the daughter of Walker Corp’s CEO and my fiancee. No one is more suitable than her.”

The moment Zayn finished speaking, the man released Yara. In the next second, he caught me and grabbed my neck.

I felt something at my neck. It was a knife pressed to my throat, only this time it was me instead of Yara.

I did not want to cry. But I did not expect Zayn to admit that I was his fiancee only when using me as a substitute for Yara.

I was afraid to die. Even though I had never cried over Zayn’s rejection before, I could not stop the tears from spilling out.

Zayn froze for a moment when he saw me cry.

Yara also noticed it. She gritted her teeth and shouted, “Ms. Walker, don’t worry! The police are coming soon!”

Zayn turned back and, for the first time, looked at her coldly.

But I did not notice it. The man behind me was dragging me backward. The knife cut a small wound on my neck along the way.

It hurt, but the pain in my chest was worse.

He moved quickly. Soon, he reached the back exit of the hospital. I knew I would most likely die in his hands.

I closed my eyes and stopped struggling. He leaned close to my ear and said, “Looks like you’re just like me, a pitiful person.”

His words rang in my mind for a long time. I could not come back to myself.

Zayn’s voice suddenly sounded from outside the hospital room.

“Yvonne, I’ll send Yara back first. Wait here! I’ll come back and take you home later.”

Maybe he felt he had gone too far today, or maybe he was afraid I would refuse. He left without waiting for my answer.

I looked at the empty hospital room. For a moment, I almost thought I was dreaming.

But the pain from the nurse cleaning my wound was real. It told me I was not dreaming at all.

If this had been before, I might have waited. I might even have been happy about it.

But this time, I was calm. After the nurse finished treating my wound, I stood up and left.

I thought Zayn only said that out of guilt. I did not expect that the next day, at the engagement banquet, he would come to my private dressing room backstage just to ask one question.

“Why didn’t you wait for me last night?”

The makeup artist knew what my fiance looked like. When she saw Zayn, she looked confused. Still, she followed the rules of her job. She put down her brush and left the room so we could talk.

I looked at Zayn through the mirror. I did not answer him. “What are you doing here?”

Zayn seemed to realize what he was doing. His tone turned defensive. “I came to see how your preparation is going. What? Am I not allowed to worry that you’ll embarrass the Farrell family?”

Right after he spoke, the pair of rings I had been playing with during makeup slipped from my hand and fell to the floor.

Zayn and I both reached down at the same time. I picked up mine. He picked up the groom’s.

Each pair of rings was chosen by the bride, and each one was engraved with initials. Zayn felt the uneven engraving. He turned it over out of curiosity and froze.

The letters on it were not ZF. They were YL.

Zayn disappeared completely after that day. The next time I heard news about him was when Zayn and Yara got their marriage certificate.I felt nothing. I treated it like a bit of entertainment. I did not expect what came after that. Zayn started to abuse her.The wealthy circle was made up of families who had been rich for generations, so their villas were not far apart. After Yara moved in, I never once ran into her. The first time I saw her after their marriage was a day after I learned they had registered it.It was still dark outside and quiet. Yara appeared at that time. There had been a sharp drop in temperature recently. She wore a thin spaghetti-strap nightdress. She ran along the road as she shouted for help. The noise woke me up. I pulled back the curtains, and the first thing I saw was the bruises on her body.It would not have looked so shocking if the blows had not been so heavy. At that moment, Zayn chased after her. When he saw her running toward my house, he spe

My parents did not like too many people in the house. Because of that, only Mrs. Clark, who was in charge of cleaning and cooking, stayed home. There was no one at the gate. That was why the moment Yarden and I stepped out of the front door, Zayn suddenly appeared without warning and grabbed my wrist.A bandage was wrapped around his forehead. The doctor had not allowed him to leave the hospital. But Zayn was stubborn. He insisted on coming to my house. On the way here, he kept thinking about everything he had done. Those long-suppressed emotions finally exploded the moment he saw Yarden standing beside me.His eyes were bloodshot, and his voice carried a desperation I had never heard before.“Yvonne, I remember now. I remember everything. Please give me a chance to make it up to you.“That car accident was an accident. I really didn’t mean to hit you. Please listen to me. I’m begging you.”I had been trying to pull away, but I stopped after hearing his words. After a moment of

But it was not me who got hit. I had been standing there moments before. It was not Yarden either. It was Zayn, who had run over from a distance to save me.The chandelier fell on his back. It also struck his head. Still, he lifted his head. He saw that I was safe, and only then did he relax.“You… you’re fine. That’s good.”After he said that, Zayn passed out. Blood poured from him and spread across the floor. It looked like a bright red flower. My legs went weak. I almost fell to the floor. Yarden held my waist and supported me so I could stand steady. His hand came up and blocked my view. His voice was calm as he comforted me. “It’s okay now. It’s all over. “Don’t worry.”Zayn was quickly sent to the operating room. Yara arrived one hour later. The moment she saw me, she rushed at me like she had gone mad. She tried to hit me, but Yarden stood in front of me and blocked every blow. She shouted, “If it weren’t for you, Zayn wouldn’t be hurt. You’re a disaster magnet! “You

I stood there in a daze and stared at the hand Yarden was holding. Zayn should have felt relieved that he could finally marry Yara in this life, yet he was the first to lose control and step forward. He pushed a hand between us.His face was dark, and his voice carried clear displeasure.“Mr. Lockwood, I think you’ve misunderstood. The person Yvonne likes is me. I’m also the one she chose at this auction. “What you’re doing right now isn’t appropriate.”Yarden looked at Zayn’s hand, and a trace of displeasure flashed in his eyes. A businessman knew how to hide his emotions. I did not notice anything, and his expression returned to normal.“Is that so?” Yarden looked at me, then looked at the host behind him, who held the official list. “Mr. Farrell, did you check the results of the auction? If you didn’t, how could you be sure Yvonne chose you no matter what?“Please remember this. People change. Feelings are even less certain.”The way Yarden said my name sounded too intimate,

As if trying to confirm something, Zayn snatched the ring I had picked up and looked at it closely. When he saw my initials “YW” engraved on it, he pressed his lips into a straight line. “Yvonne, what’s this supposed to mean?”“It means exactly what you see.”The person I was engaged to was Yarden Lockwood, not Zayn.Zayn sounded displeased. “Yvonne, you don’t have the right to throw a tantrum at me. “There isn’t anyone with the initials YL in this year’s auction. Luckily, no one will see the rings today. After the engagement banquet, change it immediately.”He then slammed the door shut.I looked at his overconfident attitude and sighed as I sat there.Zayn seemed to have forgotten something. The richest man in Ravenwood and the heir of Lockwood Corp, Yarden Lockwood, had repeatedly postponed his auction marriage in previous years.Because of that, even though he was not in our age group, he was still part of this year’s auction.I saw no need to explain this to Zayn. I was
