CHAPTER 46– ONE DOWN

LARRY'S POV

I reached the office and pulled up at the garage. Laura was already outside, pacing like she’d been waiting forever.

“Sir...” she started the second I stepped out.

I walked straight past her without slowing down.

“Sir, please, it’s about the board...” her heels clicked behind me. She warned but none of it landed. My head was still back at that café, still stuck on Victor’s words, still hearing: Have you really seen the news?

Everywhere I turned, eyes followed me. Conversations dipped into silence the second I passed. Some people had the decency to pretend to be busy; others didn’t bother hiding their stares. But guess what? I didn’t care. It's my fucking company... and I could fire any asshole anytime I want to. I couldn’t care less about that by the way...what I really cared about was why the board had called me.

I hadn’t even stepped into the boardroom yet, and I was already pissed as hell.

By the time I reached there, my patience was already hangi

CHAPTER 51– LUCKY OR DOOMED LARRY'S POVYes, Richard! Damn, how could I forget… he had said he was coming back home to finish his master’s in clinical pharmacology. Whatever the hell that even meant. Honestly, I didn’t care about his degrees—he was still the same smug, know-it-all friend who somehow made every situation about him.By ten, I had the engine running. By twenty, I was already at the airport. And of course, he was already there. Leaning casually, hands in pockets, smirk teasing me even from a distance. Seriously? Could he be more extra? I tried to act normal.I straightened my jacket, adjusted my tie, and plastered on the most convincing smile I could muster. I wasn’t going to let him see the storm brewing inside me. Smile, Jonathan. Smile like the CEO you’re supposed to be. Don’t let him see the cracks.“Fuck, aren’t you the worst,” Richard called, tossing his bag toward me as he walked to the car. His grin was irritatingly perfect, like he’d rehearsed it just to get un

  • I DIVORCED HIM! NOW, HE REGRETS   RUNNING FROM MYSELF

CHAPTER 50: RUNNING FROM MYSELF LARRY'S POVI hadn’t gone home in two days now. What was left for me there anyways? The office smelled like stale coffee, ink, and literally my own exhaustion. Papers cluttered the desk in front of me, but none of them mattered. My tie was loose, shirt wrinkled...and my shoes… yeah, my shoes weren’t even together. I’d kicked them off in some kind of half-conscious fit, and now they were tossed across the room like they were auditioning for a modern art exhibit. Classic me. I just couldn’t bring myself to care. I sat in that same chair, staring at the same wall, drowning in the same thoughts.Brandy had been calling me non-stop. My phone had lit up so many times I’d memorized the pattern of her name flashing on the screen. But I didn’t pick up. I couldn’t. Not when my chest felt like it was collapsing in on itself every time her name appeared in my head. What would I even say? That I’m falling apart? That I can’t breathe? That the woman I once thought

CHAPTER 49 – THE WRONG SIDE OF GOODBYE LARRY’S POVI I don’t even know what the hell I was thinking when I dialed her number. Maybe I thought she wouldn’t pick. Maybe I wanted to hear her voice just one last time. Casual, Larry, keep it casual. Just check in.Don’t do it, Larry. She’ll spit fire. She’ll burn you alive.Then...fuck. She actually picked. For a moment, it was just silence...dead silence...like she was deciding whether to breathe or let me suffocate. My chest was pounding like I’d swallowed a hammer. Say something, idiot.“Hey,” I muttered, almost testing the waters. And she chuckled. Not a warm one. The kind of laugh that sounded like it crawled out of something broken. “Really, Larry? Hey?” Her voice was different. Like she’d been crying until her throat turned raw.“How are you doing?” I asked, trying to sound steady, but my voice cracked anyway.“Go straight to the point, Larry.” Her tone was flat and cold...like she had a knife pressed to my throat.I scratched the

CHAPTER 48 – GET UP LAZARUS, EVERYTHING'S CRUMBLING I froze mid-step, my heart lurching like someone had just yanked it out of my chest. I turned quickly, already asking myself who on earth had the nerve to startle me here of all places.I caught a man leaned by the window. Tall, dark suit, standing there like the whole room had been reserved for him. The light slid across his jaw, and his eyes...God, those eyes...cold and calculating like I was some file on his desk. But there was something in his stance that made my stomach twist. I hadn’t noticed him before. The curtain of my exhaustion and worry had been so thick, I hadn’t even seen that someone was here, just… watching.“I—uh...Can I help you?” He didn’t even bother talking to me, just walked straight up to Marvin’s bed and stared at him. I hated the way he looked at him… it wasn’t care, it wasn’t concern. No, it was worse. It was pity, like Marvin was some broken thing on display, and I swear it made my skin crawl.I was about

CHAPTER 47– REGRET MAYA’S POVThe nurse’s voice was gentle but brisk as she handed me the papers.“Miss Maya, you’re cleared. Just sign here, and you’re free to go.”I pressed the pen down, as my fingers trembled slightly. Free to go. Finally out of this place. No more bland meals on plastic trays... No more smell of antiseptic... just freedom. But now I thought of it, it didn’t feel as sweet as I viewed it would. When I walked toward the glass doors, Theophilus was already waiting by the entrance, tall and patient as ever in his black suit. The chauffeur gave me a small nod and quickly stepped forward to take my bag.“Miss Maya, let me,” he said. But I pulled it back before his hand could close around it. “Relax, Theo. I can carry my own bag.”He frowned but didn’t argue, only fell into step beside me as we moved toward the car. But guess what? I didn’t get far.Not really.“Theo,” I murmured.“Yes, Miss?”“Wait a minute.”And just like that, I ended up in the hospital chapel.
