Alvara

I'd spent the past two weeks at home designing the product sketch for Mr Reed based on our collaborative ideas but I could barely focus.

This was because Kai hadn't been coming home frequently. He always had one excuse to give or the other but it was clear he was avoiding me.

The front door opens as Kai walks through it. He doesn't say Hi or even acknowledge my existence.

This was really getting to me. He'd just managed to come home since he left this morning. It was 10pm in the evening!

Looking up from my product sketch at him, I asked. “Are you going out again?“

“Yeah, I have some things to take care of“ He replies, pulling off his winter coat that was hung on the wall. “How's your product sketch coming along?“

I scoffed. “Are you really curious about that?“

“Of course, I am“

Then be here. God damnit!

“Well, I can barely focus and that's all thanks to you“

Kai furrowed his brow, confused. “Thanks to me? What did I do?“

Was he seriously asking because he didn't know or was he just playing dumb?

“Just admit it, Kai. It's clearly obvious that the reason why you haven't been coming home lately is because you're avoiding me“ I say. “Are you getting tired of me already? Maybe I really am the problem“

“You're not and don't ever say something like that again“ He retorts. “Yes, I've been avoiding you but it has nothing to do with you“

“I don't believe you“

“I'm a man, Alvara. Living under the same roof as a woman who I'd loved for 5 years.“ He explains. “How do you expect me to react when she suddenly kisses me out of the blue, one day or publicly reveals to the press that we're engaged to be married while holding my hand affectionately?“

That stinged.

“Are you saying you didn't like any of those?“

“What I'm saying is that you keep getting my hopes up when you clearly don't feel the same way about me“ He corrects.

“Who says I don't feel the same way about you?“ I asked. “I do know I am physically attracted to you“

“But do you like me? Do you see yourself falling in love with me?“

I don't respond. It was too soon to answer anyways. I'd just come out from a divorce with a man I truly loved.

I hadn't even yet completely healed from that. Could I possibly open my heart to another?

“I wasn't trying to hurt you by avoiding you. I'm sorry if it made you feel that way“ Kai states. “I just didn't want to make you uncomfortable. It's the least thing I want“

“I really have to work overnight at the office tonight so I won't be coming home“ He adds. “Make sure to lock the doors before you sleep“

No. I wasn't going to let Kai leave just like that.

“Wait!“ I called out, springing up from the chair; halting Kai's steps. “Give me a little more time. It might be selfish of me to ask but please do“

“After this project with Reed is over, I'll give you my answer“ I continued. “Until then, can you come home? It's quite lonely without you here“

“It wouldn't make you uncomfortable?“ He asked.

I shook my head, “No, it wouldn't“

Kai walked towards me and gently placed a soft kiss on my forehead.

“Then, I'll be home tomorrow morning after my night shift“ He whispers. “Goodnight“

I felt giddy. Like a little kid who had just been given her favourite candy.

“Goodnight“

“I'll be home by the time you wake up in the morning. I promise“

With that said, Kai takes his leave.

Throwing myself down onto the chair, I felt more energized and focused to work on my product sketch.

When the product sketch was complete, I video called Mr Reed to get his opinion off it. I was relieved to hear he didn't have much corrections to make but was rather impressed by it.

“Finally done“ I let out a yawn as my gaze shifted to the wall clock. “It's 4am. Should I wait for Kai until he gets back home?“

In as much as I struggled to keep my eyes opened, they felt heavy.

“I'll just sleep for a short while“ I murmured, moving to the bedroom and climbing onto the bed. “I'll set an alarm for 6am. Kai should have been home by then“

When my alarm was all set, I took a short nap. Or so I thought.

Slowly opening my eyes after a while, I saw Kai's face in front of me.

I gasped, covering my face. “When did you get home?“

“And how long have you been watching me sleep?“

A slow smile spreads across his lips, “About 10 minutes ago. I couldn't bring myself to take my eyes off you. You look so beautiful in the morning“

Again. Again, I felt my heart skip.

Reaching out for my phone, I realized that my alarm was turned off.

“Did you turn off my alarm, Kai?“ I asked.

“Yeah. You were sleeping so soundly that I didn't want it to wake you“

He reaches out for my product sketch.

“Is this the end result of your product?“ He asked.

Sitting upright on the bed, my gaze raked through his half unbuttoned shirt and his entire form. He looked good for someone that pulled an all nighter.

Clearing my throat, I snapped out of my lewd thought.

“Yeah, that's it“ I respond. “Reed approved of it so we'll start designing it right away. The launch on shouldn't be far off either“

“Good. I'm glad you could finish this quickly. How long do you think it would take for the product to be made and it's launch on?“

“Three weeks at most“

Kai's frown deepened, “Three weeks, huh?“

“Is there a problem, Kai?“ I asked. “Is there something you want to tell me?“

Letting out a heavy sigh, he reveals. “You see, I got a call for the police this morning shortly before I came home“

The police? That means..

“Williams...“

Kai nods, confirming my fear. “He escaped“

KaiOnce again, I decided to put my trust in the public. With a meeting like this with Father, of course he was bound to slip up when he thought it was just us. Which is why I'd allowed reporter Benny through the back door to record everything. Hopefully, he'd gotten father's confession.Kayden frowned. “You hurt your own son?““This fucker has only caused me more harm than good. He's a disappointment“ Quinn admits. “I brought him injured before the press but I didn't say anything about who had hurt him. All I was trying to do was give off the impression that since he was hurt, the footage released was fake“ “And you think people bought it?“ I asked. “Of course. If they didn't, the tables wouldn't have turned so much this way““Did you get that reporter Benny?“ I asked. Reporter Benny comes out from his hiding spot. “Got it, Mr Foley“Father stared at the reporter in shock. “What are you—““You just admitted to harming your son and staring that the security footage previous releas

Alvara“I believe my son, Williams is innocent“ Quinn Foley says to the reporter. “As we all know, this could be a plan devised by both Kai and Alvara to damage my son's reputation““Do you really believe they'd both go through the hassle of creating a fake footage just to mess with you, Mr Foley?“ The reporter asked Father. “Yes, I do“ Quinn replied. “For one, Kai isn't my biological son. This is a secret I've kept hidden for a long time now“She gasped. “This is huge. Why would you suddenly want to reveal such a big secret at a time like this?““Because it's human nature to be greedy“ Quinn concludes. “I saw this greed in Kai after he coveted his own brother's ex-wife. Prior to that, I'd cut him loose off everything that tied him down to the Foley family name““So, you are saying this is Kai's way of retaliating to being cut off from the family line?““I have every reason to believe that's what it is but my decision would be made after proper investigation has been made regarding t

  • I DIVORCED MY HUSBAND–THEN, MARRIED HIS BROTHER    A FAKE

KaiThe live ended with 100,000 viewers tuned in. Plus, the video was reshared by half that number. With the help of the public, this case was impossible to ignore. “Check this out, guys“ Janice says, shoving her phone screen in our faces. It had the news reporter announcing that numerous press were stationed at the front of Quinn's house to get him to reveal the whereabouts of Williams. “We did it!“ Iris squeals, exchanging a high five with Janice. “You see what I told you, Kai? It's only a matter of time before your Quinn gives off Williams location. Never underestimate the power of the public“It wasn't that easy. Quinn Foley was a man that would rather die than turn over his only son to the cops. But for now, let me watch how things play out. “Thanks for both your help Janice and Iris“ I say to both of them. “I'll be leaving now—““So fast“ Janice cuts in, raising her eyebrow at me. “Don't you have something you'd like to say to your sister?“I groaned. “Iris, can I talk to y

Kai“But if you're going to do this, I want to be there to watch it happen“ I continued. “You want to publicly wage war against your family?“ Iris asked. “They are not my family“ I correct. “And besides, they messed with my family first““If you say so, cowboy. Then get over here“ Hanging up, I take a quick look at Alvara sleeping soundly before leaving the house. The cab ride to the address Iris sent me was short. Iris and Janice were already at the entrance of the forest by the time I'd gotten there. They seemed to have been discussing something important. “You're early“ Janice says. “You didn't have to be here, you know. Alvara needs you“ “I want to“ I strongly declared. “This is where I draw the line against my family. And what about you? Doing this could cause a huge impact for FashionXpress“ “Impact or not, I'm just doing what's right“ Janice concludes. “Also, I never liked you Foleys—not like any of this is out a personal grudge or something. It's for Alvara to finally c

KaiI arrived at the bar within minutes of Janice sending me the address. “I'm so sorry, Kai“ She apologized, passing a drunk Alvara over to me . “I thought she could handle it. I didn't know Alvara was such a light weight. I swear, she had just one glass“I nod. “Honestly, this is my first time seeing her drink“She'd once told me she hated people coming home drunk as it reminded her of Williams. “Anyway...“Janice gaze falls on Iris. “Oh, damn. I didn't realize we had guests. I'm Janice Walters““I know you are“ Iris stretches forth her hand. “I'm Iris Bosque. A content creator and Kai's sister“She accepts her handshake. “It's a pleasure to meet you, Miss Bosque“Turning to me, she says. “Once more, I apologize for the state Alvara is in. My intentions were just for her to unwind a bit—“ “I'm not upset“ I cut in. “Rather, I should thank you for being there when she needed a friend. I appreciate it““It was not a problem“Turning to Iris, I say. “Come on, let's g—““Oh. Can I have

Kai“Mr Foley, your next meeting is—“ “Jamie. Out“ I command. “Y-Yes sir“ As soon as Jamie left, I let out a frustrated sigh. But you couldn't possibly blame me. Call me petty or whatnot but I had every right to be upset—especially after hearing Williams say he wanted Alvara back. What gave him the fucking right to say that? He was a fool if he thought I was going to let go of her. “Yet you left home this morning while she was still asleep“ I murmured. “Way to go, Kai““You don't look so good“ A familiar feminine voice says. Looking up, my gaze falls on Iris, a childhood female friend of mine since our days at the children's orphanage home. After I'd gotten adopted by Quinn Foley, I didn't really know much about how Iris life had turned out but she'd video called me earlier at home this morning. I was both excited and happy to see her. Her brown hair had now turned scarlet red. “You look good, Iris“ I commend. “Are you not going to hug me, Kai?“ Her lips twitched. “That's dis
