Kai

“This is unbelievable“ My mother grumbles as she straightens my suit. “I can't believe you're getting married to the same woman that divorced—and ruined your brother's name. I mean, what do you two see in that woman anyways?“

“Point of correction, mother. Williams deceived Alvara“I corrected her, straightening my tie. “He sold off her company's product design and Idea to her rival company. Not just that but he sold her house to the bank as a collateral for a loan he had no interest in paying back“

“So what? Williams isn't perfect. No one is“

“If you don't like Alvara, mother then why are you here?“ I asked. “You didn't have to come to my wedding“

“Of course I did. Your father already swore he wouldn't show up so I had to“

Staring at my reflection in the mirror, a wide smile spreads across my face as I recount the day Alvara proposed to me back at the her launch on gala.

She really was full of surprises and I couldn't wait to discover what other surprises she had up her sleeves during our married life.

“It's time“ I say, extending my arms out to mother. “Shall we?“

Hooking her hands on my arms, mother and I exited my dressing room and entered the wedding venue.

Walking down the aisle with mother, a wide smile spreads across my face as my gaze lands on the guests seated at either side of the aisle.

All my closest friends were here. It felt so surreal that my 5-year old one sided crush on Alvara was ending with us getting married.

To top it off, it wasn't a marriage in name only nor a marriage a convenience. It was simply a marriage out of our love for eachother.

Standing beside the officiant at the altar, I anxiously waited for Alvara's entrance.

“The bride would now come in“

The entrance door opens as Alvara strolls in dressed in a flawless strapless wedding gown and a veil over her head with Ava Reeds, her bridesmaid beside her.

As Alvara walked down the aisle, my gaze never left her. I even feared blinking—scared that if I did, this moment would be over in an instant.

When Alvara had almost reached the altar, I approached her and Ava as I extend my hands out towards Alvara.

Ava placed Alvara's hands in mine, “You'd better take of her, Foley“

“Trust me, I will“

Tightening my hold on Alvara's hands, I lead her up to the altar before the priest.

“You look so beautiful“ I admit. “So perfect“

She blushed, “You look quite dashing yourself“

The officiant clears his throat. “Please, focus“

I chuckled. “Sorry“

“Dear friends, we are gathered here today to witness to join together Alvara Higgins and Kai Foley in marriage“ The officiant announces as he turns to face Alvara. “As we all know, marriage is a sacred bond between two people; a commitment to love and cherish each other. Please, face each other“

We do.

Addressing Alvara, he asks. “Will you, Alvara Higgins take Kai Foley to be your lawfully wedded husband, to have and to hold from this day forward? For better or for worse, for richer or for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death do us part?“

“I do“

To me, he asks. “Will you Kai Foley take Alvara Higgins to be your lawfully wedded wife, to have and to hold from this day forward? For better or for worse, for richer or for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death do us part?“

“I do“

“Alvara and Kai, you have come together to enter the holy union of marriage. You have promised to love and honour each other“ The officiant declares. “To show support in times of joy and sorrow and to remain faithful to each other for the rest of your lives. May your love remain strong and true and your bond grow stronger with each passing day“

The officiant turned to face the crowd, “If for any reason, anyone thinks this two couples cannot be lawfully joined together, speak now or forever hold your peace“

A moment of silence fills the air as the officiant patiently waited for a disapproval but we got none.

“In the absence of any disapproval—by the power invested in me, I now declare Kai Foley and Alvara Higgins husband and wife“ He continued. “You may now kiss the bride“

Lifting off Alvara's wedding veil over her head, I cupped her face with my hands as I leaned down to seal her lips with mine.

The guests rose up to their feets, cheering and letting out excited screams.

Whisking up Alvara into my arms, I announced to the guests. “Please, do enjoy the rest of the wedding. I'm just going to elope with my new wife“

Running down the aisle, I exited the wedding venue and quickly climbed into the backseat of my car.

“Drive off quickly, Christopher“ I ordered my chauffeur as he hit the gas.

Alvara—on the other hand couldn't stop laughing.

“What's funny?“ I asked, staring at her amused because I'd never see her laugh this hard before.

“I mean, who announces that they are eloping during their own wedding“

I chuckled. “I do“

“You're insane, Kai Foley“

I say nothing rather stare at the beautiful woman that was now my wife.

“Why are you staring at me like that?“ She asks.

“Because I want to kiss you so badly“ I admit in whispers. “Can I?“

“We're married now, Kai. You don't have to ask“

Pulling up her chin, I crashed my lips down onto hers; sliding my tongue into her mouth.

Alvara gave as much as she received.

Breaking the kiss, I leaned my forehead against hers as I quietly admitted. “I love you, Alvara.“

“I've always been scared to say these words to you because I thought it would push you away from me but what can I do? I'm a finished man for you.“ I continued. “I fear I can no longer control my feelings for you“

“Then don't control it, Kai“ She replies. “Because I love you too“

  • I DIVORCED MY HUSBAND–THEN, MARRIED HIS BROTHER    WILL YOU MARRY ME?

Alvara“Congratulations on a successful launch-on!“ Ava Reed, the wife of Davidson Reed cheers me as we clink wine glasses together. Ava Reed wasn't a stranger to me though. In fact, we went to the same high school together although we weren't close. Williams hadn't shown himself to me ever since Kai informed me he'd escaped the cops. I hoped it would continue to remain that way and he wouldn't ruin today's launch. After three weeks of hardwork in developing this product, Davidson Reed had put together this night gala and invited all prestigious business men—and women in the industry to publicly launch the product into the market. “Thank you, Ava“ “I mentioned to my husband many times that he should consider collaborating with your company for old time's sake but he never gave in“ She reveals. “I wonder what on earth Kai told him to persuade him“ It wasn't news to me that Kai had a hand on my collaborative project with Reed. I mean, he was the one who'd set up the meeting betwee

  • I DIVORCED MY HUSBAND–THEN, MARRIED HIS BROTHER    ESCAPED

Alvara I'd spent the past two weeks at home designing the product sketch for Mr Reed based on our collaborative ideas but I could barely focus. This was because Kai hadn't been coming home frequently. He always had one excuse to give or the other but it was clear he was avoiding me. The front door opens as Kai walks through it. He doesn't say Hi or even acknowledge my existence. This was really getting to me. He'd just managed to come home since he left this morning. It was 10pm in the evening!Looking up from my product sketch at him, I asked. “Are you going out again?“ “Yeah, I have some things to take care of“ He replies, pulling off his winter coat that was hung on the wall. “How's your product sketch coming along?“I scoffed. “Are you really curious about that?“ “Of course, I am“ Then be here. God damnit!“Well, I can barely focus and that's all thanks to you“ Kai furrowed his brow, confused. “Thanks to me? What did I do?“Was he seriously asking because he didn't know o

  • I DIVORCED MY HUSBAND–THEN, MARRIED HIS BROTHER    ENGAGED TO BE MARRIED

Kai“I'd be taking a huge gamble on this investment, Miss Alvara“ Davidson Reed, the CEO of Vintage enterprises says to Alvara. “Can you promise me that I won't come to regret my decision?“ I'd set up this meeting between Reed and Alvara. I was confident that their collaboration would be the best way to help Alvara's company bounce back into the spotlight. Reed only decided to meet up with Alvara if I came along but fuck it, my mind wasn't even on their conversation right now. It was on that kiss with Alvara from earlier. Why did she kiss me? I mean, she was clearly aware of how I felt for her. If she didn't feel the same, what was that kiss for?Damn. I was confused as hell but I want to kiss her again—if she lets me. My gaze lands on Alvara's lips as she discusses some inaudible nonsense with Reed. Those soft lips. I want them again. She turned to face me, “What do you think, Kai?“I snapped out of my thoughts. What did I think about what?“I think it's a really good idea.“ I

  • I DIVORCED MY HUSBAND–THEN, MARRIED HIS BROTHER    MAKE THE MOST OUT OF IT

AlvaraI couldn't sleep a wink all through last night. Not after those words Kai said. He'd liked me for 5years? How was that even possible? We hadn't even known each other that long. With a confession like that, there was no way I could sleep in the same room with Kai. By the way, he'd insisted on sleeping in the same room thing since we were going to be "married" after all. “And why can't my heart stop beating so fast?“ I scolded myself while cleaning the kitchen to get last night's confession out of my head but it only lingered on more. “Maybe it's because I haven't been confessed to in so long“ Even my face felt flushed. I grumbled, “Really, what was Kai thinking confessing to me like that?“ “Good morning“ A voice greets me from the kitchen door. It was Kai. He was dressed in the thick black sleeveless singlet he'd used to sleep in last night. His black hair was messy and all over the place. As he moved to the fridge, pulled out a bottle of water and drank it, I noticed how

  • I DIVORCED MY HUSBAND–THEN, MARRIED HIS BROTHER    BECAUSE I LIKE YOU

KaiAs I exited Alvara's house, I couldn't stop smiling to myself as Christopher, my chauffeur who had been standing by the car door opened up for me. Climbing in, I let out a hearty laugh. I hadn't expected Alvara to give into my requirements for marriage but she had. She must be really eager to settle the scores with Williams. Since she'd just gotten divorced, I suggested our marriage should be put off until we'd gotten back everything Williams took from her. Till then, we would be engaged and she would have to move into my house as I possibly couldn't let her stay in that half-empty house much longer. She agreed without putting up a fight. I was still laughing when my chauffeur, Christopher climbed into the driver's seat and started the car. “You seem to be in a good mood, sir“ Christopher noticed. “Did your talk with my lady go well?““Oh, it went well alright“ “I'm glad to hear that. Where to now, sir? Should I take you home?“No. Alvara would need some time alone at my p
