Noemi's POV

"Signorina Naldoni, are you sure you want to 'fall to your death' at the wedding three days from now? The whole thing's gonna be livestreamed."

"Yes. I'm sure."

The staffer tried again. "It'll be broadcast worldwide. Once you fake your death, that identity's gone for good. You sure you wanna walk away from being the Donna?"

I tightened my grip on the proposal in my hand. My eyes stung, but my voice didn't shake.

"Yes. I don't want it anymore."

The whole world believed Cesare Cassano, Don of the Cassano Family, loved me like crazy.

Only I knew the truth.

Behind my back, he'd built another home—with some "innocent" college girl.

And it had been going on for two years.

Tears blurred my vision. I couldn't shake what I saw outside that house three days ago.

A cozy little villa. Cesare with his arm around a pregnant woman, steadying her. They stood close, smiling like they had the whole world.

The moment I uncovered that secret, my world caved in.

It took two days to confirm it. Two years of lies.

Photos. Videos. Proof I couldn't ignore.

The boy who once loved me more than anything had hidden his betrayal perfectly.

The memory slammed back into me. I shut my eyes.

Faking my death was the only way out.

I knew Cesare.

His possessiveness? Borderline obsession.

He'd never let me walk away.

But I didn't want to stay by his side anymore.

Every time he showed me tenderness, a thought crept in—was he like that with her too? Splitting the same affection between two women, two homes?

What I couldn't accept even more was the child.

The unborn heir to the Cassano Don.

The private investigator heard their conversation. The baby wasn't even born yet, and Cesare had already decided—he'd be the successor.

And me?

The fiancée.

A damn joke.

After the call, I wiped my tears and slid the fake-death plan into my vanity drawer.

I had just shut it when a weight dropped onto my shoulder.

A tall figure came up behind me, quiet as ever, and wrapped his arms around me.

"Noemi, why are you hiding in here? Didn't I tell you to hit Sotheby's and pick out a diamond ring?"

He stopped when he saw my face. "Why you're crying? You sick or something?"

The worry on Cesare's face looked real.

But pressed against him, I caught a faint scent of jasmine.

Not mine. I'd never worn that perfume.

It clung to his familiar scent.

My stomach twisted.

I shoved him off and stumbled into the bathroom, throwing up until I nearly blacked out.

He rushed in and wrapped me from behind, hands trembling as he wiped my mouth.

Cesare had a serious thing about cleanliness. The guy hated anything dirty. But now he ignored the mess completely. All he cared about was me.

He lifted me, ready to take me to the hospital.

I grabbed his sleeve. "I just ate something bad. I'm fine."

"No. We're going." His arms tightened around me, voice low and rough. "Three more days and you're my wife. My legal wife. You know how long I've waited for that? Until that day comes, I'm not letting anything go wrong."

The love on his face looked perfect.

If I hadn't just gotten the PI's photos—taken an hour ago—I might've believed it.

Cesare at an OB-GYN clinic. Standing close to that woman. The two of them looking at her ultrasound.

I swallowed everything down and forced a smile.

"Don't worry. Everything'll go exactly the way you want."

That night, a message from the staff popped up.

[Everything's arranged. At the wedding in three days, you'll disappear after an "accidental fall."]

A few days later, Marcello figured everything was locked down.He pulled in a few senior capos already fed up with Cesare and marched into the council room, ready to force a public vote to strip Cesare of the Don title. The door swung open.Marcello stopped cold.Cesare sat at the head of the table. No decay. No weakness. Just a quiet, hardened stillness. He'd been ready for this.Marcello's face darkened. "You—"Cesare lifted his eyes, slow. Exhaustion lingered there, but the cold cut deeper."These past few days," he said quietly, "I've been thinking about all the rats hiding in the dark."His gaze locked on Marcello. "Never thought one of them would be you."Marcello's expression shifted. He sneered. "What's the point of saying that now?"Years of resentment burst out. "Back then, I should've been next in line. You stole my seat for that woman. Now look at you—losing your mind over her. You got no business sitting there."His stare turned sharp. "You loved her that much

Rain started to fall.Inside a hidden chamber of the Cassano estate, the lights stayed low, the air thick and suffocating.Marcello Cassano lounged on a leather couch, a cigarette between his fingers. Smoke curled around him. His eyes were dark. Cold.Cesare's second older brother. The family's underboss.Real power already sat in his hands. And he wasn't hiding his ambition anymore.Back on the summit of Monte Terminio, the second he watched Cesare collapse over Noemi—break completely, lose the strength to even stand—Marcello knew. He'd won.Fiona stood in front of him, pale, both hands guarding her belly."Marcello, Cesare's finished. Not long after Fiona left, hurried footsteps rushed up outside the door.Paulo hesitated a few seconds, then knocked softly, voice low. "Don, we found something important."Cesare didn't look up. His voice came out hoarse. "Come in.""We found... Signorina Naldoni's phone."Paulo held up a clear evidence bag. Inside was a cracked phone.Cesare's head snapped up. He went completely still."The tech team restored the data."Cesare took the phone, his fingers trembling as he unlocked it.The moment he opened the gallery, he froze.Photos of him and Fiona filled the screen—at the house he'd bought for her, at restaurants, at the hospital. In the days after, Cesare locked himself in his room and never came out.He drank day and night, drowning in it.The decisive, iron-fisted Don of the Cassano family was gone. What remained was silence—hollow, lifeless. None of his old edge left.He kept touching the cold urn, over and over, like it might still hold a piece of Noemi.Meanwhile, when Fiona heard Noemi had "died" on that snowy mountain, she almost couldn't hide the joy swelling in her chest. She was sure Noemi had gone over the cliff with her phone. Any proof was buried with her.Her secret. Her schemes from the past two years. All of it was finally paying off. After dressing up carefully, Fiona rested a hand on her slightly rounded belly. Grief sat perfectly on her face as she stopped outside Noemi and Cesare's bedroom."Let me see him."She looked at Paulo. "After all... I'm carrying his kid."Paulo hesitated, then stepped aside. The door opened. The room reeked of alcohol. Silence pressed in, heavy and suff

When Cesare woke up, it was already the next evening. He shot upright in the hospital bed, staring at the door. His throat worked for a long moment before the words scraped out."Where's Noemi?"Paulo stood beside the bed, head lowered, not daring to meet his eyes.Cesare grabbed his collar. "Answer me!"His eyes burned red.Paulo's face went pale, voice shaking. "Don... while you were out, the search team followed procedure. They... sent the body for cremation."Cesare's pupils tightened. The blood in his veins went cold.He let out a hoarse roar. "Who gave the order? Without my say, who the hell cremated her?""It was the search team..." Paulo forced the words out. "The cliff conditions were brutal. The body had already started to..."They were afraid she wouldn't rest in peace, so they sent her to the funeral home first."By the time we got there, it was already..."Cesare shoved him aside before he could finish and stormed out of the hospital room barefoot. When he rea
