Evelyn’s POV

The next morning, I sat in my bedroom with my laptop open in front of me.

The hidden camera feeds filled the screen. For the past week, those cameras had become my greatest weapon.

I clicked on the feed monitoring the Dawsons’ living room. The room was empty.

I was about to close the application when movement appeared on the screen.

My eyes narrowed as Amelia entered first. She looked nervous. A few seconds later, Ethan walked in with Mrs. Dawson and her husband.

  • I Died on My Wedding Day   Chapter 10

Evelyn’s POVSix months later.I stood in front of the floor-to-ceiling windows of my office and watched the city below. The view was breathtaking, but today, I barely noticed it.A knock sounded at the door.“Come in.”Mrs. Lewis entered with a smile.“It’s official,” she said. I turned toward her.“They’ve all been sentenced,” she announced. A peaceful feeling settled inside my chest.Mrs. Lewis placed a folder on my desk.“Robert Dawson received multiple life sentences. His wife was sentenced for conspiracy and obstruction of justice. Amelia received a reduced sentence for cooperating after her arrest.”Amelia had spent years pretending to be my sister; now she would spend years paying for her choices. That was enough.“And Ethan?” I asked.Mrs. Lewis smiled, “He received twenty-five years.”A slow breath escaped me. Twenty-five years, that was the rest of his youth and his future. Exactly as he had planned to do to me.“Thank you.”Mrs. Lewis nodded.“There’s one more thing. The

Evelyn’s POVThe knife never reached me. Before Robert could take another step, three officers tackled him to the ground. The ballroom erupted into chaos as women screamed, guests stumbled backward, and reporters rushed forward with cameras raised. The entire scene unfolded in seconds. One moment, Robert Dawson was a respected businessman. Next, he was pinned face-first against the floor in handcuffs.“Let me go!” His roar echoed throughout the ballroom. The officers tightened their grip.“Robert Dawson, you’re under arrest.”“I didn’t do anything!”I almost laughed. The irony was unbelievable. For ten years, he had stolen from me. For ten years, he had lied to me. For ten years, he had hidden behind the mask of a loving guardian. And now he wanted to play the victim.Across the room, Amelia looked as though she might collapse. Mrs. Dawson was openly crying. Ethan stood frozen in place.Nobody moved to help Robert; nobody could. The evidence had already been shown, and his confession h

  • I Died on My Wedding Day   Chapter 8

Evelyn’s POVThe ballroom glittered beneath crystal chandeliers. Champagne flowed freely as politicians, business executives, reporters, and socialites filled the room.Just as I requested.I wanted witnesses. I wanted an audience. Most importantly, I wanted nowhere for them to hide.Standing at the entrance, I watched the guests arrive one after another.Mrs. Lewis approached my side.“Everyone is here,” she said. I smiled, “Good.”The trap was set. Now all I had to do was wait for the prey to walk into it.As if on cue, Ethan entered the ballroom. He looked handsome in a tailored black suit. Once upon a time, the sight of him would have made my heart race. Now all I felt was disgust. The moment he spotted me, a charming smile spread across his face.“There she is,” he grinned. He crossed the room and wrapped an arm around my waist. I resisted the urge to push him away.“Tonight is incredible,” he said. “Thank you.”His eyes swept across the crowd, “I knew you wanted something spe

The moment he entered the room, he slammed the door shut behind him.Robert didn’t even sit down before speaking.“What the hell happened to the accounts?” he snapped. Nobody answered, and his gaze immediately landed on Ethan.“You said everything was under control,” he shot at him. Ethan frowned, “I do.”“Then explain why millions of dollars suddenly became inaccessible overnight,” Robert snapped. I leaned forward in my chair. Robert was furious.Amelia folded her arms.“I told you,” she said. Robert turned

Evelyn’s POVAs I drove back home, I expected to feel sadness; instead, all I felt was rage. For ten years, I had believed my parents died in a tragic accident. For ten years, I had trusted the people who stepped in afterward and claimed they loved me.For ten years, Robert Dawson had played the role of guardian while stealing from me behind my back. But now I know the truth. My parents hadn’t died by chance. Someone wanted them dead, and someone wanted me dead, too.The only reason I was still alive was that I happened to get sick. A simple fever had changed everything.I tightened my grip on the steering wheel. Not anymore. I was done being lucky, I was done surviving. It was time to fight back.—The next morning, I arrived at Parker Holdings before anyone else. Mrs. Lewis nearly dropped her coffee when she saw me.“Miss Parker?”I smiled, “Good morning.”She blinked twice. “You’re here early.”“I couldn’t sleep.”That wasn’t a lie. After what Detective Harris had told me, sleep fel

Evelyn’s POVMy grip tightened around the phone. For several seconds, I couldn’t speak, breathe, or even think. The room seemed to tilt beneath me.“What?” The word came out as a whisper.Detective Harris sighed, “I was afraid you didn’t know.”My heart pounded violently, “Tell me everything.”The detective was silent for a moment before speaking.“Not over the phone.”My stomach twisted with anxiety, “Then where?”“I’ll text you an address.”I immediately shook my head, “No.”The detective paused, “No? You don't want us to meet?”“You said my life is in danger. The people responsible know you’re investigating them. If they’re watching you, they could be watching wherever we meet,” I explained. He chuckled softly, “You’re smarter than I expected.”“I’ll send a location. You choose somewhere else if you don't like it,” I said. “Fair enough,” he agreed, and the call ended. A few minutes later, I sent him an address. It was one of my father’s old properties that sat on the outskirts of
