Chapter 1

I was about to explode from the anger boiling inside me because my wife was kissing another man right in front of me.

They stayed locked in a passionate embrace and refused to part their lips. When they finally pulled away, Carter Enders looked at me with a taunting expression while he held the panting Izzy Sockman in his arms. “Are you deaf? Is it so difficult for you to pour me a drink?”

My wife leaned into his arms while she tidied her messy skirt. “Do not make me repeat this, Shawn. Tomorrow is the day Sockman Enterprise goes public. Carter and Eugene are here with me to meet Frank Collier from White Mount Investments. Do you think you can take responsibility for any consequences tomorrow if you upset them?”

It was a ridiculous sight.

My great‑grandfather had been in the army when he was young. When his battalion was separated after an attack, he was saved by a Sockman who fed him half a piece of bread when he was close to starving to death.

Our family had been in the Sockmans’ debt ever since, and we had always been grateful.

When we found the Sockmans, Izzy owned a small twenty‑person company that was close to bankruptcy. I invested in her company without hesitation and turned her from a failing owner into a powerful CEO. I even married her because it had been my great‑grandfather’s dying wish. We had been together for three years.

She was now humiliating me because of her two lovers.

“I am your husband, Izzy, not your waiter,” I said calmly while I tried to suppress my anger.

Izzy burst into laughter. “My husband? Do you earn enough for me, or have you done anything useful? You are not a sweet talker like Carter, and you are not as smart as Eugene. What else do you know besides cooking and cleaning? Do you think I would marry you if my grandfather had not insisted on it?”

She waved me off with impatience.

“If you cannot serve us drinks, then go pay the bill. After that, start the car and make sure the air conditioning is running. You need to take us to the presidential suite. What are you waiting for? Hurry up and get the car. Or do you want a divorce instead?”

My wife was asking me to take her and her lovers to a hotel room.

She did not seem to remember that when my great‑grandfather was close to death three years ago, her grandfather had knelt beside his hospital bed and begged him to let Izzy marry me. When my great‑grandfather learned that the Sockmans were not capable businessmen, he thought about it for three days before he agreed. He allowed me to marry into the Sockman family to repay the debt and help strengthen Izzy’s business for three years.

“If she still cannot be helped after three years, we will consider the debt fully repaid.”

Back then, I had been willing to let her enjoy a comfortable life even if she was not smart, as long as she was dutiful and responsible. It now seemed clear that she would never change.

I dumped the food I brought her into the garage bin. Izzy’s eyes widened as she lost her temper. “Are you throwing a tantrum in front of me? Who are you throwing a hissy fit at, Shawn? If you are not careful, I will leave you with nothing after divorcing you!”

Carter added fuel to the fire. “Izzy is the one who is about to become rich. What is with your act? Do you really think you will get rich just by having sex with Izzy? Why not just castrate him, Izzy? That would stop him from ordering you around.”

“I cannot do that. My grandfather chose him as my husband. I cannot explain it to him if I castrate Shawn.” Izzy took a deep breath and gave me a condescending look. “I will overlook what you did just now. If you know what is good for you, go home and make me a hangover remedy for when I return. Make sure you kneel at the door when I get back, and I will consider keeping a good‑for‑nothing like you around and forgive you for what you did.”

“No need. I am just a nobody who will not disturb you any longer, Miss Sockman.”

Izzy looked stunned. “What do you mean, Shawn? What is with the sarcastic tone?”

I ignored her and pulled the door open before I walked out. When I reached downstairs, I called my assistant, Frank. “Prepare my divorce papers and the contract for Sockman Enterprise’s equity transfer, and send them to their office. Also, I want the person ringing the bell tomorrow to be changed.”

Frank sounded surprised. “Who do you want it changed to, Mr. Colter?”

I looked at the woman I had groomed to become the CEO. She was smart, capable, and knew when to walk away. Most importantly, she understood her place and would never be as foolish or greedy as Izzy. I was not looking to carry a burden, yet I did not mind having a loyal partner by my side.I walked toward Leia and laughed softly when I saw her eyelashes tremble. “You do not need to work that hard for me.” I wrapped my arm around her slender waist and pulled her into an embrace. “Just do your duty as Mrs. Colter, and that is enough for me.”Leia shuddered slightly. Her eyes turned red before she buried her face in my chest.…A few months later, my assistant informed me that Izzy had become unstable. After being tortured and beaten by her debtors in an underground club, she broke down mentally. Carter and Eugene did not end well either. They were thrown into prison for selling stolen goods and committing fraud.“Mr. Colter, Izzy Sockman is now homeless on the streets. She cannot ev

Shawn sat in the main seat of a forum, looking commanding yet at ease. He looked like a conqueror who controlled the fate of everyone in the room. Leia sat beside him, shining brightly as the newly appointed CEO of Sockman Enterprise.A reporter asked, “Mr. Colter, we heard that you recently completed a billion‑dollar merger. Can we know the secret to your success?”Shawn tilted his head slightly and glanced at Leia before giving a calm smile. “It is because I have someone truly capable standing by my side.”The camera zoomed in on Leia. She looked at Shawn with admiration and love in her eyes.Izzy stared at the man on the screen, the man who once belonged to her. If she had not chased after lovers and done so many foolish things, the woman sitting beside him would have been her. That billion‑dollar empire would have been handed to her on a silver plate. She could not accept that Leia, a woman she believed was fated to have nothing and die overworked at her desk, was now the CEO.

Izzy broke down at once. It was only then that she finally understood that the abilities she had been so proud of, and the confidence she had in controlling everything, were nothing but a joke in front of me. “I… I will sign the papers.”Her hands shook with fear as she picked up the pen and signed her name in a rush.I took the papers from her and passed them to the lawyer before wiping my hand with cold indifference. “Get out.”The bodyguards opened the villa doors, and Izzy was kicked out like a homeless dog. She did not have a single cent on her and was not given time to pack any clothes.Carter and Eugene ran the moment they realized things were not going their way.The door slammed shut behind Izzy with a loud bang, forming a barrier between two different worlds. Izzy stood in the cold wind, staring at the luxurious villa she once believed would belong to her forever, and she finally broke down crying.Autumn rain poured without warning, drenching her completely. She walked

Izzy sat on the sofa while she watched the lawyer in a sharp suit stand in front of her. She let out a cold laugh. She had no talent for business, yet she was not foolish when it came to money. Even she could tell from the way I ordered White Mount Investments around and transferred billions in shares to someone else that I was a multibillionaire.“Are you trying to pay me off with this lousy piece of paper? Where is Shawn? Get him here to speak to me.” Izzy tore the divorce papers and threw the pieces at the lawyer’s face. “I will sign the papers if he gives me what I deserve from his billions in assets, Sockman Enterprise’s shares, this three‑billion‑dollar villa, and everything else he owns. Give me one cent less, and I will not agree to the divorce.”Carter and Eugene, who sat beside her, nodded in agreement. “She is right. Shawn has been a useless bum who hid this from Izzy the whole time. This is marital fraud.”“If he refuses to pay, we will expose him to the media and tell

“The billion‑dollar investment for Sockman Enterprise has been transferred to the public account registered under Leia Jameson, as you instructed. You may confirm it at any time.”The entire hall fell silent when Frank addressed me as Mr. Colter.Izzy froze for two seconds before forcing out an awkward laugh. “You must be joking, Mr. Collier. Why are you calling him Mr. Colter? He is a useless man who cannot even get a job. He married into a woman’s family and lived under the Sockmans’ roof for three years. He is only lucky he looks like some random tycoon. You must have mistaken him for someone else. There is still time to fix this. You should hurry and—”Frank flung her hand away in disgust and looked at her as if she were out of her mind. He sneered. “How could I mistake someone after decades in this business? Do you have any idea of your own capabilities, Izzy Sockman? Three years ago, your twenty‑person company was close to collapse. You had no core technology, and you did not

Leia did not even glance at her, as if speaking to someone like Izzy was a waste of time. She walked straight toward me and bowed slightly. “Everything is ready for you, Mr. Colter. We can begin the bell‑ringing ceremony.”“I wondered why an employee who did not show up to work would be here pretending to be a socialite.” Izzy snapped out of her shock and looked as if she finally understood what was happening. She ignored Leia and pointed at me with ridicule.“How much did you pay her? Yesterday was only an innocent joke we played on you. You should know your place and accept it when all you do is use a woman’s money. How dare you get this nerd to ruin my big day? Have you forgotten who the boss is after getting used to leeching off a woman? Mr. Collier from White Mount Investments is here today. What is a loser like you doing pretending to be a wealthy man?”Eugene stared at Leia’s haute couture gown with a greedy glint in his eye. “That gown has to be worth tens of thousands, Izzy
