Lisa's POV

Once I hit send, I let out a harsh laugh, satisfied, and shoved the phone down onto the seat beside me. "Let's see you ignore that one, you bastard."

The smile on my face disappeared when a series of loud horns suddenly filled the air.

HONK! HONK! HONK! HONK!

The cab driver gripped the steering wheel and looked sharply to his left.

"What the hell is this guy doing?!" he shouted.

I turned around quickly, looking out the rearview mirror

Lisa's POV Vincent's dark eyes locked straight onto our van through the shattered glass, glowing with a promise of complete destruction. He didn't wait. He didn't ask them to surrender. He didn't say a single word.Vincent raised both weapons and pulled the triggers.RAT-TAT-TAT-TAT-TAT! BANG! BANG! BANG!A rain of heavy lead tore through the windshield of our van."GET DOWN!" the leader screamed, but it was too late. The driver’s chest exploded in a spray of blood as three heavy bullets tore through the front glass, dropping him dead across the steering wheel. The horn began blaring in one long, continuous, deafening screech.EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!"FIRE BACK! FIRE BACK!" the leader roared, kicking the driver's side door open and blind-firing his machine gun into the rain.Instantly, all seven surrounding SUVs opened their doors. Dozens of Vincent’s men in heavy black armor stepped out into the street, opening a wall of gunfire that shattered the night into pure chaos.THWIP-THWI

Lisa's POV "Get your hands off me! Let me go! Help!" I screamed, kicking my legs as hard as I could against the ruined door frame of the cab."Shut up, bitch!" the masked man roared. He reached inside the smashed window, grabbed me by my hair, and yanked my head back violently. Pain shot down my neck, making tears burst from my eyes. Before I could throw a punch, another masked guy grabbed my arms, pinning them behind my back with a sickening squeeze."Please! Don't do this! Take my money! Take whatever you want!" I sobbed, struggling frantically, my feet dragging along the wet asphalt as they yanked me completely out of the backseat."We don't want your money, sweetheart," the first guy sneered, his hot, foul breath smelling through the fabric of his mask. "You're worth way more than cash.""Grab her legs! Don't let her kick!" the second guy yelled to the others."I said let me go!" I shrieked, landing a hard boot right against one guy's knee.He grunted in pain, but the leader bac

They weren't maintaining a normal driving distance—they were driving dangerously fast, cutting through traffic, and locking straight onto our bumper. At first, a wave of annoyance washed over me. I thought it was Vincent’s bodyguards from the hotel. I thought Gregor and his men had noticed my broken window and chased me down to this point."Driver, speed up!" I shouted, leaning forward over the front seat. "Don't let them pull up besi

Lisa's POV Without thinking too much about it, I switched it on.Almost at once, every sound from outside disappeared. The traffic below faded away, and the voices of the bodyguards in the hallway were gone too.The room became completely silent. I could hear my own heartbeat pounding in my ears.It worked. No matter what happened in this room, no one outside would hear a thing. Now even if I made noise in here, those guards outside wouldn't hear a single thing through those thick, soundproofed doors and windows.I didn't waste another second. I quickly gathered my hair, pulling it back tight into a high knot on top of my head so it wouldn't get in my eyes. I yanked off my heavy suit jacket, tossing it onto the sofa, and rolled my blouse sleeves all the way up past my elbows.I looked around the room frantically, searching for something—anything—I could use as a weapon. My eyes fell on a large bronze statue in the corner of the room. It was a sculptured piece, solid enough to take

Lisa's POV My hands were shaking so violently I could barely hold my phone.I stood in the center of the beautiful glass-floored room on the top floor of King's Hotel, staring down at my phone.Vincent had read every single message. He had seen and read every single word that I'd typed and sent to him. The little blue double-checks marks stared back at me, making it impossible to pretend that Vincent didn't see my messages. He was somewhere out there, opening every message... and choosing not to reply to a single one.And now I had just sent him the most explosive, terrifying question possible—asking him why Duncan had called him ‘dad’ before taking a bullet for him at the church—and Vincent Storm had simply ignored me. Again."You arrogant, selfish bastard," I whispered to the empty room, my teeth grinding together.I couldn't breathe. My chest felt like it was being crushed under a heavy rock. Ever since the shooting at the church this morning, my head had been spinning in a mill

Vincent's POV I stared down at Lisa's text messages on the screen, reading them twice.A heavy, exhausted sigh escaped my lips. I closed my eyes for a brief moment, letting out a breath I felt like I had been holding since the first gunshot went off at the church earlier today. She was angry. She was trapped. She felt like a prisoner in that hotel room, surrounded by ten giant men in black suits who wouldn't let her step outside the door.I knew how stubborn Lisa was. I knew how much she hated being controlled or told what to do. But right now, I couldn't risk her walking out into the open. Not when there were hitmen running around with suicide pills in their pockets, waiting for a chance to strike.I locked the phone screen, making it go pitch black. I didn't type a single letter back.I slid the phone deep back into my pocket, reached into my suit coat, and pulled out a silver cigarette case along with my heavy gold lighter.I flipped the case open, picked out an expensive, custo

Lisa's POV The air between us tightened, but Vincent continued anyway. “From that moment, I stopped being a father trying to understand. I became someone planning revenge,” he said quietly. “But then Christopher’s mother died, leaving him briefly alone. So I waited. I delayed my revenge, deciding

Lisa's POV Before I could react, the attackers had suddenly seized me again, rough hands tearing at my clothes and underwear as I struggled beneath them. Panic consumed me, my cries swallowed by the storm. The man they called boss unbuckled his belt and forced me down, pinning me beneath him, his

Lisa's POV Once Lucas dropped me off at the hotel, and I checked into my already booked hotel room, I barely had the strength to do anything else, so I simply tossed my phone onto the bed and let myself fall flat onto the mattress, staring up at the ceiling. That was when the weight of what I had

Lisa's POV My sister-in-law sent me a photo of her kissing my husband on the beach. Just a few minutes later, she deleted the photo and sent me a text saying, “Oops, sent to the wrong person. Lol.” I knew it was deliberate. It was never a mistake. She wanted me to see how happy my husband was
