Chapter 1

"Happy birthday, darling. I tracked down this familiar just for you. Pure as snow, she’s bound to bring you unimaginable luck."

Tristan’s deep, gentle voice murmured in my ear.

With a flawless, loving smile on his handsome face, he handed me an open box. Inside crouched a rare, snow-white rabbit.

My daughter, Lily, leaned in with bright eyes. "Mommy, Daddy and I picked her out together! I named her Sera. Do you like her?"

I looked down.

Inside the iron cage, the rabbit was huddled tight. Its fur was pure white, but its eyes were bottomless pits of black.

"Pet her, Mommy. Sera is such a sweet girl."

I forced a smile and reached out my hand.

The next second, the rabbit lunged, sinking its incisors deep into my fingertip.

A sharp pain shot through my hand. Golden Elven blood instantly welled up, and the rabbit began to lap it up greedily.

"Ah! What are you doing? You terrified her! Bad Mommy!"

Instead of caring about my bleeding hand, Lily screamed, charging at me like a feral little beast and shoving me hard.

I stumbled back, but Tristan grabbed my wrist in a vice grip.

"Aurelia, don't move!" he warned, his voice low and urgent.

His eyes were glued to the white rabbit feeding on my hand. "If you pull away now, you'll break her teeth!"

At my own birthday party, my husband and my daughter only cared about the rabbit that had just bitten me.

Looking at this absurd scene, the gruesome memories of my past life flooded my mind.

Just like today in my past life, it was the exact same gift, the exact same scene.

Back then, I was completely blinded by love. "I honestly thought it loved me. I fed it the sweetest grass and built its nest with the finest materials.

And what did I get in return?

It bit me, over and over. It started small with my fingers—just a few drops of blood. But then it went for my neck. It tore into me, draining my life away like it could never get enough."

When I was so pale that I collapsed from exhaustion, I finally broke down and begged to get rid of her.

Tristan had just looked down at me with pure annoyance. "Aurelia, you're getting hysterical. Sera is just a helpless pet. You can't even tolerate a little rabbit?"

Lily went on a hunger strike, crying, "If you send Sera away, I'll hate you forever!"

I caved over and over, stepping straight into the abyss.

In the end, on our wedding anniversary, I was drained dry.

As I lay on the cold floor, withered like a dead tree, my fading soul watched the blood-gorged rabbit shed its disgusting pelt and turn into a naked, gorgeous woman.

Seraphina. Tristan's former lover.

"Mommy is finally back!" Lily squealed, throwing herself into the woman's arms.

Tristan pulled them both into a tight embrace, his eyes red and his voice trembling. "It was all worth it. Playing the perfect husband to this haughty Elf for all these years was worth it for you."

It was only in that despairing moment I realized Tristan had only approached me to use my Elven blood for Seraphina’s curse.

Even my own daughter’s soul had been suppressed by his dark magic. That tiny body was possessed by their wicked love child!

"Aurelia? Are you spacing out?"

Tristan's voice snapped me back to reality.

The white rabbit, now full of blood, had a grotesquely swollen belly. She released my finger, utterly satiated.

Tristan pulled out a silk handkerchief and half-heartedly pressed it against my wound.

"Sorry, darling. She's just getting used to your scent," he said in his gentlest tone. But the corner of his eye twitched, barely hiding his excitement. "I'm sure you two will be inseparable once she's used to you."

I knew he was secretly thrilled, thinking the first step of his grand resurrection plan was a complete success.

But in this life, I would never be a stepping stone for their twisted family reunion.

Shackled heavily at the wrists and ankles, Tristan was dragged out of the manor like a rabid mutt.Beside me, the imposter Lily was still screaming for "Daddy" and "Mama Sera," but I just watched with ice in my veins. "You venomous bitch!"A lavishly dressed woman shoved frantically through the guards—it was Tristan's mother, the low-born woman he had brought to the capital to drown in luxury. She lunged at me with a raised hand, her voice shrill. "You ruined my son's future! Give me back my son!"I didn't even look at her. With a flick of my finger, a burst of Elven magic sent her flying backward."He ended up like this because of his own greed and cruelty," I said coldly, looking down at her. "He deserves everything he gets." The scandal quickly spread across the continent.Tristan’s crimes of murdering Paladins for power through dark magic were made public. Once a revered Holy Knight, he became a despised rat, his reputation in ruins. He was tossed into a pitch-red, sunless dungeo

The moment Tristan and Lily walked through the door, they immediately started looking around."Aurelia! Where's Sera? Is she okay?"Lily sprinted into the bedroom, only to run back out moments later, crying hysterically. "Daddy! Sera is gone! Her cage is gone! Mommy must have hidden her!" Watching the panicked father and daughter, I sat at the end of the long dining table, slowly wiping my hands. I gestured toward the lavish dinner spread out before me."There's no need to panic. You both must be exhausted from your journey." I gestured to the two steaming porcelain bowls at their places, my tone silken. "Have some broth to warm up first. Once you've finished, I'll tell you exactly where she is." Tristan frowned, clearly irritated by my attitude. But he was thirsty from the journey and desperate to know where the rabbit was, so he strode over, picked up the bowl, and downed it in one gulp.Eager to see her "Sera," Lily followed suit, drinking her bowl clean. The moment the liquid hi

I grabbed the heavy iron lid and slammed it shut over the boiling cauldron, sealing it tight. My final glimpse was of the rabbit sinking beneath the bubbling venom, her pitch-red eyes fixed on me, swimming in unadulterated hatred and terror.I patted the side of the iron pot."Don't fret. Tristan will join you in hell soon enough. You can rot together." During the week Tristan was "on patrol," he acted the part of the devoted husband flawlessly, calling me on the comm-crystal at the same time every night. But his words were entirely focused on the rabbit."Darling, is Sera behaving? Has she been eating well?" Tristan’s voice was laced with frantic anticipation. Leaning back on my plush sofa, I put on a weak, breathy voice, sounding like I was on the verge of death."Tristan... I feel awful." I coughed weakly into the crystal. "Every night, something freezing wraps around me... It chokes me, draining my strength drop by drop. I can barely breathe, Tristan. I think... I'm dying." I pe

On the other end of the crystal, Tristan caught the faint sound."Aurelia? What was that noise?"I replied with effortless calm, "Nothing. Just the apothecary's apprentice crushing some herbs."Tristan didn't suspect a thing. "I see. Hurry home once you have your medicine."He even had the gall to add considerately, "Oh, by the way, so you can rest peacefully, I had the butler escort Lily to her grandmother's estate for the week. Take care of yourself while you're home alone." Home alone. The subtext was clear: he was making sure the white rabbit could bleed me dry day and night without anyone ever finding out.How thoughtful. "I understand. Good luck with your mission."I sneered and severed the connection. The crystal went dark.I looked down at the rabbit. Her pitch-red, beady eyes were now swimming in pure, unadulterated despair. Her final hope had been snuffed out by the man she loved most. Without hesitation, I dropped the rabbit into the boiling cauldron. The bubbling, sickly

Holding the half-dead rabbit, I pushed open the Witch's heavy wooden door, which was carved with eerie runes. The hut was dim. In the center sat a massive iron cauldron bubbling with a sickly-green, viscous liquid that smelled of sweet, rotting blood. "Ah! Noble Elf, what treasures have you brought me today?" the Witch croaked, shuffling closer. When her cloudy eyes locked onto the rare snow-white rabbit in my hand, they ignited with overwhelming greed."Magnificent! Absolutely exquisite! This is the ultimate catalyst for my brew!" Sensing her impending doom, the rabbit in my hand let out a weak but unmistakable woman’s cry. "Save... me..."The Witch paused for a second, then cackled even louder."She's already developed human consciousness! Even better for the brew!"She ripped the lid off the boiling cauldron. "Noble lady, your timing is impeccable. I'm brewing an ancient poison called the Soul-Scorching Draught. All I needed was a highly magical white rabbit as the catalyst!" "On

Tristan's face, already contorted with grief, drained of all color the second those words left Lily's mouth. He immediately clamped a hand over her lips."Stop talking nonsense!" he snapped at the girl in his arms. He turned back to me, cold sweat beading on his forehead, forcing a stiff, ugly smile. "Aurelia, don't listen to her. She... she reads too many fairy tales. She's just babbling." Looking at the two of them, I felt nothing but disgust and amusement.Even now, they still thought I was the same gullible fool from my past life. But I knew it wasn't time to tear off the masks just yet. I had to keep playing the game. I massaged my temples, playing the part of the utterly exhausted wife, and let out a long, defeated sigh."Forget it. I don't want to fight anymore. I'm tired." I pointed at the twitching rabbit. "Take your lucky familiar and get out. I don't want to look at her for the rest of the night."Tristan didn't dare argue. He carefully scooped up the rabbit, grabbed Lily,
