Chapter 2

Author: Grogan
I could clearly hear Logan swallow hard beside me.

Toby’s expression, on the other hand, turned incredibly ugly. The thrilling rush he got from fooling around with Chloe right in front of my face seemed to instantly vanish.

He snapped to his feet and snatched the glass of wine from my hand. “We’ve had enough alcohol for tonight. Let’s play a party game instead.”

The party bottle began to spin.

When it landed on Toby, he wrapped his arms around Chloe without a shred of hesitation, and the two of them bit into opposite ends of a single gummy worm.

“Kiss! Kiss! Kiss!”

As the candy shrank, the surrounding pack members started chanting, cheering them on until the two dissolved into a deep, passionate kiss. Chloe, her face flushed crimson, leaned back into Toby’s chest, not forgetting to shoot me a smug, triumphant smirk.

Beside them, a few pack members muttered under their breaths, mocking me.

“A certain female werewolf has no idea she’s being publicly betrayed. She actually thinks she’s just an audience member like the rest of us! Watching her is better than TV.”

They covered their mouths and snickered, utterly convinced I had no clue who they were whispering about.

Clink.

The bottle slowed down and stopped, its neck pointing directly at me.

This time, the penalty wasn’t candy—it was a kiss.

Every eye in the room locked onto me, practically buzzing with anticipation for my choice. They all seemed morbidly curious to see if I would subconsciously gravitate toward Toby out of sheer habit.

Toby looked away nervously, terrified that looking into my eyes might trigger my true instincts. Sitting right next to me, Logan implicitly clenched his fingers, his posture stiffening.

I let out a soft laugh. “Do I even need to say it? Naturally, I choose my boyfriend.”

I noticed Logan visibly exhale a breath he had been holding.

At that exact moment, Toby stood up, hurriedly interjecting with his own suggestion. “A kiss on the forehead still counts as a kiss.”

“No way.”

I stood up and wrapped one hand tightly around Logan’s silk tie, forcing him to look up at me. “Whatever other male wolves get, my boyfriend gets too.”

I leaned down and pressed my lips firmly against Logan’s, kissing him deeply.

The intoxicating blend of alcohol, tobacco, and cologne mixed perfectly with Logan’s potent pheromones, giving off a uniquely dangerous, masculine scent. None of them had ever seen me this passionate before—not even during the entire three years I had spent dating Toby.

The room erupted into absolute chaos, the crowd roaring with cheers.

Once Logan snapped out of his brief shock, his hand gripped my waist, and he ruthlessly took control, kissing me back with a fierce, possessive hunger.

Gradually, the cheers died down.

In their place, a suffocating, low-pressure silence blanketed the grand hall. The source was Toby. His face was entirely clouded with a dark, suppressed fury as he glared violently at his older brother.

“Enough! How much longer are you two going to kiss?”

How pathetic. Wasn’t this exactly the result he had started?

Logan didn’t even bother looking up at him. Instead, he gently used his thumb to wipe away the smeared lipstick at the corner of my mouth.

I feigned a look of pure innocence and confusion. “What’s wrong? Isn’t this exactly how the game is played?”

“And here I was, worried Serena would feel out of place because of her amnesia. Turns out she’s the most experienced one here,” Chloe chimed in, crossing her arms with a bitter, defensive sneer.

Her petty jab didn’t faze me at all. But Toby looked ready to blow a fuse, turning his head away with a dark, brooding scowl.

While visiting the restroom to touch up my lipstick, Toby’s cold, angry voice drifted over from the far end of the hallway.

“Logan, you promised you wouldn’t touch Serena. What the hell did that kiss back there mean?”

Logan replied, his voice laced with a lazy, mocking amusement. “It was just a game. She has amnesia, remember? She thinks I’m her boyfriend. Who else was she supposed to pick? You, when you have another she-wolf attached to your hip? Don’t forget, I'm doing you a favor here.”

Toby choked on his words. He took a sharp, heavy breath before throwing back a freezing reply.

“Fine! Either way, just cut out the physical intimacy from now on. I know you, and I know nothing will happen between you two, especially since you despise Serena so much. But you’re still my brother, and forcing you to play along like this makes me feel a bit guilty.”

Logan let out a cold snort and prepared to turn away, but Toby caught him by the shoulder.

“In a little while, you can take Serena to the romantic surprise event I set up. But remember one thing, Logan—once Serena turns eighteen next week, she is going to be my fated mate. You can play your part, but don’t you dare catch real feelings. Otherwise, we’re going to have a massive problem.”

I felt Logan’s body stiffen slightly beneath my touch. Yet he didn’t loosen his grip on me; instead, his arms tightened securely around my waist, and he offered me a soft, tender smile. He was so completely unbothered that it felt as though he had known the truth all along.“No! That’s impossible!” Toby screamed, his voice breaking as he clutched his head in sheer disbelief, glaring at Chloe. “If she never lost her memory, why the hell would she sleep with my brother?! You crazy bitch, you’re making things up!”“I’m making things up?” Chloe scoffed, letting out a self-deprecating, hollow laugh. “Haha... Toby, do you actually have the balls to look directly into Serena’s eyes and ask her yourself? Ask her whether she ever lost her memory!”Toby completely froze on the spot. He began to tremble violently with fear, the gaze he leveled at me swimming with absolute panic and despair.“You don’t have to say a word to them, and you don’t have to care about anything they say. Let’s go.” L

Honestly, I had absolutely no idea where he was drawing his confidence from.He remained stubbornly delusional, convinced that I would be his mate. For the ceremony, he had scrubbed himself clean, slipped into a tailored tuxedo, and shown up completely uninvited. Walking straight over to my side, he lifted his chin arrogantly and stared at me as if I were nothing more than his exclusive property. That arrogance lasted right up until the Alpha loudly announced the Moon Goddess’s divine decree—“Serena’s fated mate is—”The Alpha pointed a firm finger directly at the werewolf standing right beside me. “The heir of the Moonlight Pack—Logan!”I watched the smug confidence completely shatter across Toby’s face in an instant. Unable to maintain even a shred of public decency, he lost all composure and screamed out in a frantic breakdown, right in front of the entire assembly.“No! That’s impossible! Serena is my fated mate! How the hell could it be my older brother?! He’s already twent

When I walked away, I never imagined that the “means” Chloe bragged about would come so incredibly fast.Or that they would be so thoroughly idiotic. The moment she saw me leave, she actually gritted her teeth and bolted straight toward the Mistwood Forest bordering the waterfall, chasing after the pack of male wolves out on the bear hunt. Right before setting off, she had completely slathered her skin in honey. To a bear, she was nothing more than a giant candy cane that had wrapped itself in a pretty bow and walked right into its jaws.Unsurprisingly, the moment she caught up to Toby, the bear that had been tracking her scent the entire time launched its assault. She recklessly threw herself directly in front of Toby to absorb the impact. Her ankle was instantly crushed into a comminuted fracture, forcing Toby to rush her straight to the hospital. When Logan recounted the incident to me later, he couldn’t help but criticize her. “None of us can comprehend why she forced herself

Logan’s calm, steady words only made an already stone-faced Toby panic even more.“Toby, since Serena and I have already slept together, and you think so highly of Chloe, why not follow my previous suggestion?” Logan pushed, his tone entirely level. “Break things off with Serena and settle down with Chloe. Wouldn’t that be a perfect solution for everyone?”“The witch already prophesied that Serena’s fated mate is no longer you—it’s me. Once she recovers her memories, you won’t have to worry about apologizing. I’ll be the one begging for her forgiveness. Everyone wins.”“In your dreams! Serena is my fated mate!” Toby glared at him, a sudden, venomous chuckle escaping his lips. “I don’t believe that bullshit prophecy for a second!“And I don’t give a damn if she slept with you, either. Once she recovers her memories, my willingness to look past this might actually make it easier for her to forgive me.”Toby sneered, his eyes flashing with desperate resolve. “I’m ending things with C

Everyone in the room caught on immediately. The witch Toby had brought in was predicting my fated mate. And that wolf wasn’t Toby—it was Logan. They all turned their heads in unison to look at Toby. His face was entirely bloodless, and he couldn’t utter a single word.Logan was the exact opposite. The dark scowl had finally vanished from his face, replaced by a cool satisfaction as he pulled me directly into his chest.“A fated mate? Isn’t that exactly how it should be?” Logan looked at his brother, his voice laced with cold disdain. “Are you really this bored, Toby? Waking me up from my sleep over an outcome this painfully obvious?”He was lying. He hadn’t been sleeping at all. He hadn’t let me sleep either, continually whispering in my ear to hang in there a little longer, promising he would let me sleep the entire day tomorrow. But Toby had no idea. He was shaking so violently with rage that he couldn’t even see the dark, fresh hickeys marking my neck.“These stupid propheci

Toby brushed off his words like a joke, clapping a hand onto Logan’s shoulder. “Don’t worry, bro. What’s mine will definitely never change.”I watched as the warmth instantly drained from Logan’s eyes, turning them ice-cold. The moment Toby turned his back, Logan clenched his hand into a tight fist, crushing the cigarette butt directly into his palm. Though his face remained an emotionless mask, the veins on his arm bulged with a fiercely restrained rage. The display was far sexier than the rich blend of scents clinging to him.It was thoroughly captivating.Once the party wrapped up, we made our way back into the main lobby, where the front desk staff began handing out room keys for the night. Chloe gleefully snatched up the keycard to a king-size room, but Toby’s face twisted into an ugly grimace the moment he saw the single keycard handed to Logan and me.He covertly yanked Logan aside, his voice dropping into a harsh, displeased hiss. “Logan, don’t you think you’re crossing th
