Chapter 3

Author: Grogan
Logan stared directly into his eyes for a long, quiet moment before his lips curled into a disdainful smirk. “Of course.”

It was the first time I had ever seen Logan look so fiercely aggressive.

Leaning against the wall back in the corridor, a wave of confusion washed over me. In my memory, he had always been stern and unsmiling. He had also been the most vocal opponent of Toby and me dating, which had led me to believe he simply despised an Omega like me.

Yet recently, I had witnessed far too many unusual expressions and choices from him. He had even broken his own strict rules just to accommodate his brother’s absurd request, forcing the two of us together.

What exactly was his purpose?

Before I could wrap my head around it, Logan stepped out from the restroom corridor and caught me. The next second, he pressed me flat against the wall, catching my lips in a deep, sweeping kiss.

I tried to turn my head away, but his grip remained unyielding, locking me firmly against his chest. By the time he finally released me, my head was spinning, and I could only look up at him in a daze.

He let out a low, breathless chuckle, his hand rising to gently caress my cheek. “See? We just took another step forward. Don’t worry, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to get reacquainted with me.”

Right then, loud cheers erupted from outside the resort.

Logan took my hand and led me into the center of the crowd. Under the glow of the brilliant moonlight, countless fireflies rose from the grass, dotting the landscape around a waterfall that cascaded down like pure silk. It was exceptionally romantic.

Chloe squealed with delight, kissing Toby on the cheek. “Thank you, darling! This is the absolute best anniversary gift I’ve ever received!”

Her eyes darted over, catching sight of me, and her brows arched maliciously. “Serena, Toby and I want to film an anniversary vlog to post online. Come over here and record it for us!”

I knew exactly what she was trying to do. On my actual anniversary, she wanted me to act as the camerawoman to document my own boyfriend’s infidelity, then broadcast it to the world to make me a public laughingstock. The irony was suffocating.

Toby’s expression faltered. “Let’s not. Maybe we should find someone with better camera skills…”

“No way!” Seeing that I hadn’t moved an inch, Chloe pouted unhappily and thrust the phone directly toward my face. “Serena is my absolute best friend. She deserves to witness my happiness!”

My fists clenched tightly at my sides. But before I could take a step, Logan strode forward, snatched the phone right out of her hand, and tossed it carelessly to the ground.

“My girlfriend came out here to enjoy a romantic evening,” Logan declared, his voice cutting through the air like ice. “She isn’t here to serve as your personal photographer.”

Chloe’s eyes immediately welled with angry tears, prompting Toby to jump to her defense. “Logan, come on. We were just asking Serena for a small favor…”

“Stop.” Logan cut him off instantly. He pulled me securely against his side and flashed an elegant, lethal smile. “We refuse.”

I could distinctly hear the sound of Toby grinding his teeth. With a freezing expression, he turned on his heel and stormed away.

Logan let out a quiet, knowing chuckle, then leaned down to ask if I could grab him a glass of champagne from the bar.

On my way back, I once again crossed paths with the two brothers holding a private conversation.

“Logan, I never realized you were such a fantastic actor,” Toby sneered. “You’re playing the part so well it almost looks real.”

Logan didn’t answer right away. He took his time pulling out a cigarette and lighting it. “You and Chloe seem to be getting along great. She really seems to suit you.”

“Yeah, Chloe is way more fun and romantic than Serena,” Toby admitted readily. “Being with her makes me feel like I’ve rediscovered the raw passion I had back when Serena and I first started dating.”

“If that’s the case, why not just take this opportunity to stay with Chloe permanently? After all, didn’t you use to complain constantly that Serena was boring and always clinging to you?”

Toby laughed. “Serena and I have years of history together; that doesn’t just vanish. I’m not going to break up with her. Besides, the witch prophesied that my fated mate would only ever be Serena.”

“As for Chloe, she already told me she doesn’t care about a permanent outcome; she just wants to have a good time with me. That suits my needs perfectly.” Toby paused, giving a condescending shrug. “But you’re twenty and haven’t even claimed a mate yet, Logan. You wouldn’t understand.”

Logan blew out a smooth ring of smoke. “Only true devotion earns you a genuine mate.” He locked his gaze onto Toby, his voice dropping to a dangerous whisper. “Haven’t you heard? Fated mates can change.”

I felt Logan’s body stiffen slightly beneath my touch. Yet he didn’t loosen his grip on me; instead, his arms tightened securely around my waist, and he offered me a soft, tender smile. He was so completely unbothered that it felt as though he had known the truth all along.“No! That’s impossible!” Toby screamed, his voice breaking as he clutched his head in sheer disbelief, glaring at Chloe. “If she never lost her memory, why the hell would she sleep with my brother?! You crazy bitch, you’re making things up!”“I’m making things up?” Chloe scoffed, letting out a self-deprecating, hollow laugh. “Haha... Toby, do you actually have the balls to look directly into Serena’s eyes and ask her yourself? Ask her whether she ever lost her memory!”Toby completely froze on the spot. He began to tremble violently with fear, the gaze he leveled at me swimming with absolute panic and despair.“You don’t have to say a word to them, and you don’t have to care about anything they say. Let’s go.” L

Honestly, I had absolutely no idea where he was drawing his confidence from.He remained stubbornly delusional, convinced that I would be his mate. For the ceremony, he had scrubbed himself clean, slipped into a tailored tuxedo, and shown up completely uninvited. Walking straight over to my side, he lifted his chin arrogantly and stared at me as if I were nothing more than his exclusive property. That arrogance lasted right up until the Alpha loudly announced the Moon Goddess’s divine decree—“Serena’s fated mate is—”The Alpha pointed a firm finger directly at the werewolf standing right beside me. “The heir of the Moonlight Pack—Logan!”I watched the smug confidence completely shatter across Toby’s face in an instant. Unable to maintain even a shred of public decency, he lost all composure and screamed out in a frantic breakdown, right in front of the entire assembly.“No! That’s impossible! Serena is my fated mate! How the hell could it be my older brother?! He’s already twent

When I walked away, I never imagined that the “means” Chloe bragged about would come so incredibly fast.Or that they would be so thoroughly idiotic. The moment she saw me leave, she actually gritted her teeth and bolted straight toward the Mistwood Forest bordering the waterfall, chasing after the pack of male wolves out on the bear hunt. Right before setting off, she had completely slathered her skin in honey. To a bear, she was nothing more than a giant candy cane that had wrapped itself in a pretty bow and walked right into its jaws.Unsurprisingly, the moment she caught up to Toby, the bear that had been tracking her scent the entire time launched its assault. She recklessly threw herself directly in front of Toby to absorb the impact. Her ankle was instantly crushed into a comminuted fracture, forcing Toby to rush her straight to the hospital. When Logan recounted the incident to me later, he couldn’t help but criticize her. “None of us can comprehend why she forced herself

Logan’s calm, steady words only made an already stone-faced Toby panic even more.“Toby, since Serena and I have already slept together, and you think so highly of Chloe, why not follow my previous suggestion?” Logan pushed, his tone entirely level. “Break things off with Serena and settle down with Chloe. Wouldn’t that be a perfect solution for everyone?”“The witch already prophesied that Serena’s fated mate is no longer you—it’s me. Once she recovers her memories, you won’t have to worry about apologizing. I’ll be the one begging for her forgiveness. Everyone wins.”“In your dreams! Serena is my fated mate!” Toby glared at him, a sudden, venomous chuckle escaping his lips. “I don’t believe that bullshit prophecy for a second!“And I don’t give a damn if she slept with you, either. Once she recovers her memories, my willingness to look past this might actually make it easier for her to forgive me.”Toby sneered, his eyes flashing with desperate resolve. “I’m ending things with C

Everyone in the room caught on immediately. The witch Toby had brought in was predicting my fated mate. And that wolf wasn’t Toby—it was Logan. They all turned their heads in unison to look at Toby. His face was entirely bloodless, and he couldn’t utter a single word.Logan was the exact opposite. The dark scowl had finally vanished from his face, replaced by a cool satisfaction as he pulled me directly into his chest.“A fated mate? Isn’t that exactly how it should be?” Logan looked at his brother, his voice laced with cold disdain. “Are you really this bored, Toby? Waking me up from my sleep over an outcome this painfully obvious?”He was lying. He hadn’t been sleeping at all. He hadn’t let me sleep either, continually whispering in my ear to hang in there a little longer, promising he would let me sleep the entire day tomorrow. But Toby had no idea. He was shaking so violently with rage that he couldn’t even see the dark, fresh hickeys marking my neck.“These stupid propheci

Toby brushed off his words like a joke, clapping a hand onto Logan’s shoulder. “Don’t worry, bro. What’s mine will definitely never change.”I watched as the warmth instantly drained from Logan’s eyes, turning them ice-cold. The moment Toby turned his back, Logan clenched his hand into a tight fist, crushing the cigarette butt directly into his palm. Though his face remained an emotionless mask, the veins on his arm bulged with a fiercely restrained rage. The display was far sexier than the rich blend of scents clinging to him.It was thoroughly captivating.Once the party wrapped up, we made our way back into the main lobby, where the front desk staff began handing out room keys for the night. Chloe gleefully snatched up the keycard to a king-size room, but Toby’s face twisted into an ugly grimace the moment he saw the single keycard handed to Logan and me.He covertly yanked Logan aside, his voice dropping into a harsh, displeased hiss. “Logan, don’t you think you’re crossing th
