LOGINEveryone described Asher as cold-hearted and ruthless.
That was why she found his willingness to do anything for the woman he loved rather surprising.
Finally, she said,
“Where is she? I want to see the patient first.”
Although Elena wanted nothing to do with Asher, she was a doctor.
She couldn’t simply stand by and do nothing when a patient needed her help even if that patient happened to be the woman he loved.
Asher replied,
“She’s at the Bennett family’s private hospital. I can take you there now.”
He was surprised by how quickly she had agreed.
He had expected her to take advantage of the opportunity and demand all sorts of things from him.
But Elena frowned and asked,
“She isn’t at Silverton Hospital?”
“No,” Asher replied. “The private hospital has the best equipment and the latest technology. The chances of a successful operation will be much higher there. I can’t leave Lillian anywhere else.”
Elena shook her head regretfully.
“I’m sorry... In that case, I won’t be able to treat Miss Hayes.”
Asher’s expression immediately changed.
“Why? You agreed just a moment ago.”
Elena looked as though she didn’t know how to explain.
Before she could say anything, Asher pulled out his checkbook, wrote down a substantial amount, and handed her the check.
“Don’t worry about the money.”
Elena glanced at the check.
The amount was enough to make anyone lose their mind with excitement.
But she merely smiled calmly.
“That’s a huge amount of money... but money can’t solve everything.”
A flash of anger appeared in Asher’s eyes.
“Then... what do you want?”
Elena said,
“Mr. Bennett, according to hospital regulations, a licensed physician is only permitted to practice at the medical institution where they are officially registered. I’m registered at Silverton Hospital, so... I think you understand what I mean, don’t you?”
She had explained everything for the sake of the patient’s well-being.
Asher asked,
“You mean you can’t perform the surgery at the private hospital?”
She nodded.
“That’s right. I don’t want to put my medical career at risk.”
Silence fell between them, and a trace of confusion appeared on Asher’s face.
He hadn’t expected such regulations to exist.
Elena said,
“If there’s nothing else, I’ll be leaving now. I advise you to make your decision as soon as possible, Mr. Bennett.”
From his hesitation, she realized that he was still reluctant to transfer Lillian to Silverton Hospital.
Perhaps he didn’t trust the hospital’s medical capabilities.
If that was the case, there was nothing more she could do.
Elena left.
A few minutes later, Thomas approached Asher and asked,
“Mr. Bennett, did Dr. Wright agree to perform the surgery on Miss Hayes?”
Asher shook his head.
“She didn’t refuse... I was the one who hesitated.”
Since Thomas had no idea what was going through his boss’s mind, he was surprised.
“They say famous doctors tend to have strange personalities. Looks like that’s true.”
“Dr. Wright is really difficult to deal with... She even turned down Mr. Bennett. Women really are complicated.”
He thought to himself,
The Carver family had gone into a frenzy. They had called Daisy early that morning, asking why she hadn’t told them about such an important matter. She had wanted to tell them, but she herself hadn’t known anything.Beckett had been doing all of this behind her back and hadn’t told her a thing.Elena took out her phone to check the news and found that it was indeed true. She began wondering who had leaked the information. It certainly hadn’t been the Wright or Collins families. Although the Carver family suspected them, they had no evidence to confirm it.And there was no reason for either family to expose themselves. It wouldn’t benefit them in any way.Elena was confused, so she ignored Daisy, which only angered her further.“Elena, I know you don’t like me, but you don’t have to be this cruel and incite Beckett to confront the Carver family, do you? The Carver family is my family. If you let Beckett do this, what will other people say? Aren’t you afraid this will bring serious cons
“You can let Madeleine deceive you if you want. That has nothing to do with me. But I want to tell you one thing: when you have time, go back to Silverton City and visit your grandfather. Don’t you know he’s in the hospital?”Elena had already given up arguing over whether he loved her or not.Asher’s expression remained impassive as he said,“I don’t need you to remind me.”“If you really didn’t need reminding, you wouldn’t have stayed away from Silverton City for so long. Do you really think your grandfather would care if you had amnesia?”Elena truly couldn’t understand him. Even if he had lost his memory, Harold would help him, not hurt him.Seeing Asher behave this way made her a little angry, and she couldn’t stop herself from saying,“Most people don’t care whether you’ve lost your memory or not. Don’t assume everyone is going to try to hurt you. And even if someone wanted to, they would first need to have the ability to do so. You lost your memory, but you didn’t lose all your
After taking a few sips of the warm coffee, Asher’s irritation eased somewhat.“Go ahead.”Elena nodded, straightened in her seat, and looked directly into Asher’s eyes.“You’ve lost your memory, haven’t you?”The corners of Asher’s eyes lifted slightly, and his gaze became more dangerous. Before he could respond, she continued,“I called my grandfather and Ethan. From what they told me, I concluded that you’ve lost your memory.”She kept staring at him, trying to catch any change in his expression. To her surprise, Asher remained calm, showing no obvious reaction.Silence fell between them.Elena didn’t know how much time had passed, but she gradually began to lose patience.“Why aren’t you answering my question?”Asher sneered.“I just find you a little ridiculous, and I don’t know what to say.”He leaned forward slightly, resting his arms on the table.“Amnesia? Do you watch too many dramas, or is there something wrong with your head? How can you say something so absurd?”“Absurd?”
Asher remained silent. Elena knew he was definitely angry, but she continued to pressure him.“Well? What’s your decision?”In any case, she had already decided that if Asher insisted on refusing to meet her, she would go to him herself no matter what. She had to see him tonight.Asher finally spoke.“All right. You win.”In the end, Elena had won the bet. Asher genuinely needed the Wright family’s support at this stage. They agreed on a place to meet, then Asher ended the call and returned to the private room.He sat back down and resumed his conversation with the clients as though nothing had happened.Throughout the rest of the discussion, Madeleine stole several glances at him, but she noticed no change in his expression, which relieved her somewhat.Perhaps Asher no longer cared about Elena. He was suffering from amnesia now, and if there was anyone truly familiar to him, it should be her.Not long afterward, they finalized the deal, and everyone stood up and left the private roo
In the private room of the restaurant, Madeleine sat beside Asher, watching him speak with ease and confidence.Every gesture and every movement radiated a presence and authority that rivaled anyone from the Bennett family.Asher was the man she had set her eyes on; the man she had chosen to spend the rest of her life with. Therefore, she was willing to stay by Asher’s side while he was still in a vulnerable position, believing that the Bennett family would eventually become his.Asher’s phone vibrated softly. He paused for a moment and glanced at the screen.“Excuse me. I need to take this call.”He stood up with his phone in hand, a trace of apology on his face.Madeleine watched him leave the private room, but her good mood immediately changed because of the call. She saw that the caller was Elena, and anger instantly flared in her heart.Asher was the man she had chosen. She didn’t want the man she had wagered the entire Sterling family’s support on to end up in Elena’s hands. The
“There’s no need to remind me. I know.”Although Nora was helping her, Annabelle didn’t have a good impression of her. After all, if Nora hadn’t hired Jhon to work as her bodyguard, he wouldn’t have gotten involved in that mess in the first place. But Nora didn’t care about Annabelle’s attitude toward her. As long as she could deal with Elena, nothing else mattered much to her.Meanwhile, Elena had long since forgotten about Jhon. She had even forgotten that he had a sister, so naturally, it never occurred to her that Annabelle might come looking for her. That evening, Elena received a call from her psychology professor.“How is the psychiatrist I recommended to you?”He had specifically called to ask about it, thinking that if the treatment wasn’t effective, he could introduce her to another psychiatrist.Hearing this, Elena suddenly remembered and quickly asked,“You never told me the psychiatrist’s name before, did you?”Asher always claimed that the treatment was effective, but El
