Chapter 7

Author: Fifteen
I was asleep for two days in the hospital. When I woke up again, the first thing that hit me was the sharp smell of disinfectant. I frowned and tried to sit up, but the needle taped to the back of my hand pulled painfully. I sucked in a breath.

The person keeping watch beside me immediately stood up. I turned my head to look. It was not my mother. It was my sister.

Phoebe’s eyes were dark with exhaustion. Her short hair was slightly messy, as though she had not slept properly in two days.

  • I Finally Let Go   Chapter 10

By the time everything came crashing down, Julian and Damian had nowhere left to run. Things truly spiraled out of control on the day I was supposed to be discharged from the hospital. That day, only Serena and I were in the room. My uncle had gone to take care of the paperwork. Phoebe had gone downstairs to pick up my medication. Mom was at the end of the hallway, speaking with her lawyer on the phone.Suddenly, the door to my hospital room slammed open. Julian rushed in.He looked like he had gone completely insane. His hair was disheveled, his eyes were bloodshot, and there was a fruit knife clutched tightly in his hand. The moment he saw me, he lunged forward. All the while, he screamed at me.He screamed at me, demanding to know why I could not just stay buried in the dirt and why I had to drag the truth into the light. He said that if it were not for me, he would not have lost so completely. He would not have ended up with nothing. He even cried as he shouted that I had rui

The scandal outside only grew bigger. At last, Mom uncovered the whole truth about what had happened all those years ago.Julian had never appeared by accident. He and his adoptive father had set their sights on her long ago. They knew she cared deeply about her reputation and was especially vulnerable to stories of something precious being lost and found again.Hence, they deliberately got close to her, staged an accident after she had been drinking, and slowly pulled her away from Dad. They even fabricated the lie that Julian was her biological child. What made it all the more ironic was that my sister had not been completely unaware that my college admission had been stolen. She had known for a long time that Julian was not a good student. There was no way he could have gotten into Imperial College. She questioned him in private more than once and even suspected something was wrong. Yet every time he shed a few tears, she softened.Mom was never willing to admit that she had tr

The hospital room suddenly fell completely silent. The expression on Mom’s face froze. My sister also turned sharply to look at her.“No way,” Mom denied it instinctively. “I personally told my assistant to handle that card. There was money on it.”As I listened to her, I only found it more absurd. “Before Dad’s surgery, the nurse told me herself that there wasn’t a single cent in that card. That day, I stood at the payment counter holding that card, my mind completely blank. I thought that if I moved faster, if I found another way, Dad would still survive.“But in the end, even the last bit of hope I was holding onto was fake.”Mom’s face slowly turned pale. It was as though she had suddenly thought of something. She immediately took out her phone and called her former assistant. The moment the call connected, she asked directly, “The card I told you to send to the hospital three years ago, did you tamper with it?”There was a moment of silence on the other end, then the person

It was not my mother. It was my sister.Phoebe’s eyes were dark with exhaustion. Her short hair was slightly messy, as though she had not slept properly in two days. The moment she saw me awake, she instinctively reached out and pressed my shoulder down, stopping me from moving.“The doctor said you’re severely malnourished. Your wounds were infected, and you had a high fever too. If you move around too much, they might reopen.”I stared at her for two seconds. Then, I slowly pushed her hand away. “Get out.”The room fell silent. She stood beside the bed for a long time before finally saying in a low voice, “I’m sorry.”I closed my eyes. I only found it ri

My first instinct was to hold the urn tighter. I got up to lock the door, but the old lock had stopped working properly a long time ago. Before I could fully secure it, the door was suddenly shoved open from the outside.Mom rushed in first, and Phoebe followed behind her. Both of their expressions looked extremely grim. The moment they entered, the first thing they saw was not me. It was the memorial, the white flowers, the candles, and the urn placed at the center.Mom stopped instantly, and Phoebe froze behind her.Mom stared at the urn for a long time before finally forcing the words out. “What is that?”I did not answer. However, she refused to believe it. She took two more steps forward, her eyes locked tightly on the urn. “This is something you put here to scare me, isn’t it? Is your father causing trouble again? Did you and someone else plan all of this together to hide him somewhere?”She kept asking question after question. Her voice became more frantic with every word

Phoebe looked at me, wanting to say something but unable to. In the end, she still left with Mom.After everyone was gone, I suddenly felt all my strength leave me. I thought saying those words would finally bring me relief, yet it did not. There was only exhaustion. I was so tired that I did not even want to hate them anymore. When I returned to my rented room that night, it was already dark. I walked over and, as usual, gently wiped the urn with a tissue. Tears slowly fell as I wiped.“Dad… If I had grown up faster… Would you not have died?”I sat on the floor, holding the urn tightly in my arms and pressing my forehead against its cold surface. That was how I fell asleep. In my dream, I remembered the past. That day, countless people flooded into my live stream, accusing my father of being a homewrecker. As the situation grew bigger and bigger, someone dug up our personal information. From everyone else’s perspective, my father and I were nothing more than shameless parasites
