Chapter 3

Author: Perfect Timing
Simon had not anticipated such outright disgust from me. He struggled to maintain his composure before forcing a calm smile.

“There you go again. It’s the same stubborn act from eight years ago. You’re obviously miserable without me. Every day probably feels like forever. But the second I show up, you pretend you couldn’t care less. Honestly, it’s exhausting.”

“Exactly. Everyone knows you’ve been hung up on Simon for eight years. You visit the Capital Hotel every single year, all because this is where you confessed to him back then. Haha!”

Iris covered her mouth as she chuckled. She then mocked me by saying, “A woman who isn’t loved is just pathetic. All she can do is live in her memories. Honestly, a woman whose whole world revolves around some guy is the saddest thing. Now, someone like me, who stands side by side with a man and grows with him? That’s the way to be. Don’t you agree, Mdm. Windsor?”

Laurel was too worried about Elio. She did not pay attention to what Iris was saying.

I could no longer hold back. I stepped forward and stared coldly at the two of them.

“Simon, I suggest you take your beloved mistress and get out of my sight. Otherwise, you’re not going to like what happens next.”

“Pfft.”

Iris glanced at me dismissively.

“What are you going to do? Cry your eyes out and show up at the airport in some cheap knockoff dress to chase after a man again? Just like you did eight years ago?”

Hearing this, I shot a look at Iris, who wore a smug expression. Meanwhile, a flicker of guilt flashed across Simon’s eyes before quickly vanishing.

I never expected Simon to tell Iris about that.

Simon and I had dated for three years. When he was at his poorest in university, he could not even afford his tuition. As for me, I came from a well-off family, and my parents doted on me. So, I had plenty of spending money.

However, I kept a low profile on campus and never flaunted my family background.

On my eighteenth birthday, my mother wanted to give me a Chanel haute couture dress. She made the reservation and transferred the money into my account. I was excited to buy it after receiving the money.

However, Simon’s father was diagnosed with cancer. Simon broke down and cried in agony. He stood in the rain and demanded to know why the universe was so unfair to him.

I knew he had been saving up for several years to study abroad. If that money went toward his father’s medical treatment, his future would be ruined.

So, out of sympathy and my love for him, I transferred the money meant for the dress to him. To keep my mother from worrying, I bought a cheap counterfeit dress online for two hundred dollars instead.

That counterfeit dress was of very poor quality. A classmate exposed it at the university gala. The entire university mocked me as a false heiress and a vain poser. They said that I was clearly broke but still posing as a rich girl.

I was cyberbullied and ostracized. As a result, I broke down emotionally and developed depression.

During my darkest moments, Simon stayed by my side. He held me and wept.

“It’s all my fault. I’m the one who did this to you, Clara. I swear that one day, I’m going to give you the life you deserve. You’ll wear designer dresses forever. No one will ever talk down to you again.”

I was deeply moved at the time, and I did not regret my decision.

After graduation, Simon proposed to me.

The day before we were set to be engaged, Simon unexpectedly received an opportunity to study abroad on a scholarship. He broke up with me almost without hesitation and looked down at me with contempt.

“Clara, it was a cheap dress. Was it really worth throwing a whole dramatic fit over? You made the entire campus think I was some kind of lowlife who had to mooch off you for a stupid dress.

“I was only with you because your family had money. The person I’ve always truly loved is Iris.”

I was shocked, and I could not accept it. When he was about to go abroad that year, I deliberately wore the counterfeit dress to the airport. I wanted to give him one last chance. But he turned around and left without sparing me another glance.

I immediately changed out of that dress and threw it into a trash can at the airport.

Right then, I let go of everything for good.

Iris’ expression changed drastically. She refused to accept it and stepped forward to stop me.“Stop, Clara. You’re lying, aren’t you? There’s no way… How could you possibly be that lucky?”Simon also grabbed a hold of me.“Clara, it’s okay. If you just agree to divorce Justin and come back to me, I’ll treat you right. I won’t hold anything against you. But my company’s in a cash crunch right now. Could you lend me seven million dollars? Once I get things to turn around, I’ll definitely—”Before Simon could finish his sentence, his entire body was sent flying.Justin appeared with his subordinates behind him. The security guards at the entrance did not even hesitate. They moved in immediately. After a flurry of punches and kicks, Simon could only scream.Meanwhile, Justin looked at him with utter contempt.“Your company is finished. All these years, you kept that sinking ship afloat with connections and handouts. Now, it’s nothing but an empty shell. I was going to be generous

For the next two days, I stayed at home to care for Elio. After confirming that Elio had fully recovered, I accompanied Laurel back to the Windsor family’s mansion. I then headed to the company. As Windsor Group’s director of design, I had never made my identity public. I did not want to complicate my work environment. I enjoyed design, and I only wanted to focus on it.The moment I arrived at the company entrance, I heard a smug voice.“Clara.”I turned and saw Iris approaching from the side. She looked at me and gloated, “So? Now that I’ve exposed your little act, the Windsor family is kicking you out, right?“You call yourself Mrs. Windsor… I knew someone like you could never land the richest man in the country. I already had some inside people check your marital status. It says you’re still single. You and Mr. Windsor never even got married. Hahaha!”Iris laughed arrogantly. She was overjoyed as if she had just heard the most ridiculous joke.“You must’ve used some nasty t

After leaving the hotel, Justin and I took Elio for a more thorough examination. We soon discovered that the lilies in the hotel had been laced with a substance that induced asthma.Justin’s face turned grim. He requested for the surveillance footage to investigate the entire incident. Unexpectedly, the hotel reported that their surveillance system had been maliciously damaged. The footage from the entire past week was lost.I laughed coldly. “They really went all out to impress Laurel. They set this up a whole week in advance. They were just waiting to put on that little show today.”Justin turned and instructed his subordinate, “Pull everything on Simon’s company. I want every single detail of his business investigated. I’m not letting trash like that exist in my territory.”“Yes, Mr. Windsor!”Laurel was even more distressed over Elio. She insisted on staying with Elio in the VIP ward for two days. She would only return to the Windsor family mansion with the family doctor once

I could understand Simon’s shock. After all, when he broke up with me, he was certain that I was inferior to Iris in every way.In the eight years that followed, he was convinced that I still pined for him. He even arrogantly assumed that I would never marry and would always wait for his return. However, I was not only married. I was married to the heir of the Windsor family, and I had even given birth to a son. Seeing this, he naturally could no longer maintain his composure. At that thought, my eyes were filled with scorn.“What else? I’m married to my husband. What? Did you think I’d still be pining over some social climber like you?“You survived back then on the money I was supposed to spend on a dress for myself. The second you got that scholarship to study abroad, you couldn’t wait to run back to your childhood sweetheart. What makes a pathetic piece of garbage like you think I’d wait around for you?”“But you came to this hotel every single year—”“I come every year for

I spun around, and the anticipated pain never came.I opened my eyes. The person behind me shielded me while simultaneously giving Simon a hard kick. Caught off guard, Simon stumbled clumsily to the floor. He looked up in anger and growled, “You dare kick me?! “Wait, you’re M-Mr. Windsor!”Simon’s expression shifted instantly. Iris, who was standing nearby, looked up that instant. She saw Justin Windsor, the heir of the wealthiest family, beside me.Her eyes lit up noticeably, and she pretentiously tucked her hair behind her ear.“So, you’re the famous Mr. Windsor. No wonder Clara has no shame in throwing herself at you. She even went after the little boy to get your attention,” she said in a cloying voice.Justin did not spare her a single glance. He directly turned and picked Elio up. He then handed him to the family doctor who had just arrived. Our highly trained family doctor conducted an examination. He quickly determined the best course of action and turned to Justin.

After recalling this memory, I took a deep breath and stepped forward to reveal the truth. Just then, Elio had difficulty breathing again.“Grandma... I can’t breathe...”Elio’s face turned purple once more, and his breathing became even more rapid than before.I kept my composure and said, “No. This isn’t an allergic reaction. It’s asthma.”I quickly realized what was happening and turned to look at the maid.“Did Elio get near a furry pet earlier?”The maid appeared guilty. “I-I didn’t mean to—”“Just answer me. Yes or no?” I was nearly losing my composure, but I questioned the maid again. When I saw the maid nod, I was certain. I took out an inhaler from my bag and prepared to administer it to Elio.Iris suddenly rushed forward to stop me.“Clara, have you lost your mind? Are you going to give him some random mystery medicine? Are you trying to kill him?”Laurel was so furious that she was about to lose it. She called for security to have the two of them thrown out.M
