Chapter 1

Author: Peachie 11
The feeling of falling was strangely quite wonderful.

It felt like a kite with its string snapped, finally free from the hand that had held it so tightly.

The wind shrieked in my ears, yet everything felt impossibly quiet.

For the first time in six months since I was diagnosed with stomach cancer, I felt no pain.

It had been so long…

For the past six months, my world had held nothing but the smell of rust and disinfectants.

Every time I threw up, it felt like my insides were being ripped apart. Every time I swallowed something, it felt like gulping down literal razor blades.

To keep Justin from thinking I was trying to gain his sympathy, I learned to flush the bloodstained tissue papers down the toilet. Whenever the agony struck, I bit the back of my hand to stop myself from making a sound.

I even had to hide my painkillers in a vitamin bottle.

All because Justin had once said to me, "Wendy… Even if a woman like you, who will do anything for attention, drops dead right in front of me, all I'll ever feel is disgust."

And now, I really was going to die in front of him.

I plunged toward the ground, and a deafening crash rang out below.

The agony lasted only an instant before endless darkness and coldness swallowed me.

Blood poured from my body and bloomed in the pure-white snow, looking almost like the pattern on the expensive handmade rug inside Justin's home.

I lay with my eyes open, staring at the black night sky. Snowflakes settled on my eyes, their touch cool.

So… This was what dying felt like.

There was none of the fear I had imagined, only relief.

I looked at my twisted limbs and the horrifying pool of scarlet around me, then struggled to form my final smile.

Justin, tonight was the night of your engagement to Kelly Harris.

I had nothing else to give you.

Consider this life my engagement gift to you.

From now on, you would never have to worry about me secretly checking your phone, drugging that delicate first love of yours, or refusing to give up my place as your wife.

Your Wendy was dead.

The Wendy you had despised for three years was finally gone from your world.

As my consciousness faded for good, I thought I heard cheers coming from the banquet hall.

"Kiss her! Kiss her!"

What a lively celebration…

At the very end, I thought I saw Justin's stony face. For once, he wasn't frowning at me.

The bowl shattered, and the scalding consomme splashed over Kelly's feet, making her scream. "Haven't you performed enough of a show in front of me these past three years?" I questioned her as I advanced on her one step at a time, my vengefulness almost taking a physical form. "Why did Wendy collapse? Why did my mother tell the housekeeper to douse water on her that day? Kelly, do you want me to pull the footage from the security cameras and turn it over to the police?" Kelly's face went deathly pale, and her whole body trembled as she said, "Justin, I... I didn't mean to. I only..." "Leave Ashton City today and never let me see you here again," I said coldly as I looked at her as if she were beyond my attention. "Return every piece of Wendy's jewelry you took. I'll cut off one of your fingers for each missing piece." Kelly shrieked, stumbling over herself in panic as she fled. Dealing with her gave me no satisfaction whatsoever. No matter how much revenge I took on her,

[Extra Chapter — Justin's POV] The moment those specks of light vanished, I felt as though part of me died with them. The snow kept falling, and the pain on my face felt like it was cut by each flake of snow. I knelt in the snow, holding the scarf in both hands. It still carried her scent, mingled with a faint trace of medicine and her unique fresh scent. It was the only thing she had left me, and it was also the cruelest curse she could have given me. [If we meet in another life, be the one who loves me next time, okay?] No, Wendy, you lied to me. The last thing you said was that you wanted to become a bird and never meet me again. You wanted to fly away and erase every bond between us. "Not a chance..." I forced the broken words from my throat and roared into the empty park like a madman. "Wendy, I don't care if you're human, a ghost, or a bird, you're mine! You can only ever be mine!" Only the howling winds answered me. I lowered my head and stared at the uneven

One full week after my death, the snow fell even harder. Justin was holding my urn as he sat on the park bench where we had first met. Snow blanketed Justin's black hair, making it look as though his hair had gone white overnight. He sat there without moving like a statue as passersby pointed at him and called him a madman. He ignored them all as he merely lowered his head and gently brushed the snow from my urn. "Wendy, look. It's snowing. "You used to love snow more than anything. You said it could cover all the filth in the world. Now, I like snow too. Because I can almost see you in it." His voice was hoarse, filled with endless anguish. I felt my body growing lighter as it began to dissolve into countless specks of light. I knew that it was time. This time, I was truly leaving. I was finally leaving the world that had made me suffer and fall into despair, yet had also been the place where I had known both love and hate. I looked at Justin one last time. I l

"I tried to tell you. Six months ago, I came home with the report that day and filled the table with all your favorite dishes. "But… You brought Kelly home. You dumped everything I cooked into the trash and said looking at me ruined your appetite. "Three months ago, I was writhing in pain on the bed and called you, begging you to take me to the hospital. You said I was faking everything for sympathy and told me to die. "One month ago, I collapsed at home. Your mother had the housekeeper douse me with water to wake me up and said I was being lazy." Justin suddenly seemed to remember something, and he frantically scrolled through his phone's log. He found the call log from three months ago, then he found the voice message that lasted only three seconds. He played it. There came my voice, weak almost beyond recognition. "Justin... It hurts so much... Help me..." Then came his bitter reply, "You deserve to die in pain. Wendy, stop crying wolf. I'm busy. I don't have time fo

Kelly gasped and covered her mouth. "No... that can't be right! How could a menace like her die?! She must've planted a dummy to trick you! Justin, don't believe it!" Justin seemed to seize on the words as a lifeline.. He jumped to his feet and grabbed his coat before rushing for the door. "Right, it has to be fake! She has always loved putting on a show! "To think that she actually has the nerve to fake her death to trick me! I'm going to expose her! I'll make her regret ever being born!" His words were vicious, but his hands shook so badly as he put on his shoes that he could not even tie his shoelaces properly. On his way out, he even tripped and nearly fell on his face. I floated behind him and watched him stumble about in panic. Justin, what are you afraid of? Did you not hate me more than anyone? Had you not wished me dead? I had simply given you exactly what you wanted. You should be happy. So… Why were you shaking? Justin ran three red lights and sped

Late that night, the guests had all left. Justin took Kelly back to our home… No, it was their home now. The manor had once been the home I decorated a little bit at a time. The beige curtains I had chosen, the potted plants I had tended, the matching slippers I had bought… Now, everything had changed. The entryway now held a Westerland-styled rug Kelly liked, and the living room overflowed with her favorite lilies. I had never kept lilies at home before because I was allergic to their pollen. "Justin, I was so happy tonight," Kelly said as she leaned against Justin's chest and traced circles over it with her finger. "But... No one has heard from Wendy, and I'm still a little worried. I can't get through to her phone either. Do you think something has happened to her?" Justin paused while loosening his tie, then gave a cold snort. "What could possibly happen to her? A woman like that is probably hiding in some hotel, planning what to tell the press about me and how to squ
