Ilaria's POV

The moment I was reborn, my fiancé, Enzo De Luca, walked in with his first love, Mia Conti. He stood protectively beside her, gazing at her, his smile warm. He didn't even look at me when he talked to me.

"Ilaria, this is Mia. She's a… close friend of mine, and she's practically my younger sister. Her parents have passed away, and now that she's pregnant, she has no one to look after her. From now on, she'll be staying with us, so make sure you take care of her."

Mia stole a glance at me before clutching the hem of Enzo's clothes, as though she was afraid I might do something to her right then and there. As soon as she raised her hand, a bracelet bearing the De Luca famiglia crest peeked out from under her sleeve.

That was the token of the famiglia's Donna. Enzo was supposed to slip it onto my wrist on our wedding day. Yet, it was now resting on Mia's wrist.

Enzo noticed my gaze and hastily shielded Mia behind him. He shot me a warning look. "Mia was just curious and wanted to try it on. Don't read too much into it. It'll eventually end up on your wrist."

In my previous life, the moment I spotted that bracelet, I assumed Mia had come to steal Enzo from me and demanded he send her elsewhere. Enzo had no choice but to send Mia away.

That was when a rival famiglia, believing Enzo was in the car, orchestrated a car accident. Mia miscarried in the wreck and could never conceive again.

Consumed by guilt, I believed it was all my fault. I took it upon myself to have her move in with us so I could nurse her back to health, and I personally attended to her every need.

From then on, Enzo seemed like a completely different person. He still honored our engagement and married me, but he treated me indifferently, only showing me a little warmth at night.

Later, when I became pregnant, Enzo was over the moon. I foolishly believed that one day, we would be able to put our past behind us and go back to how we used to be.

It all came to a head when I gave birth. Enzo took our baby right before my eyes and handed him over to Mia.

"This is what you owe Mia," he spat out, looking down at me as I lay on the delivery bed.

That was when it finally hit me—he loathed me. I was driven into despair and eventually died from depression.

Right before I breathed my last, Enzo was still threatening me. "Don't you dare die on me! If you do, I'll marry Mia right away. I'll protect her for the rest of my life and make it up to her."

Since that was how it was, I looked at Enzo, who was warning me, and nodded calmly. "Alright."

"What did you just say?" He was caught off guard for a moment.

"I said she can move in. I'll look after her."

Enzo's brows knitted as he stared intently at me. "Aren't you upset about the bracelet?"

As expected, he didn't believe me. After all, I used to be possessive of him. I couldn't bear the thought of another woman by his side.

But now, I simply smiled and answered, "She lost both her parents, and she's pregnant. She's already been through enough. How could I possibly get upset with her over something this trivial? Besides, it's like you said, that bracelet will eventually end up on my wrist."

Enzo believed me. His brows relaxed, and he stopped doubting me.

"However, I do have one condition." I pulled out a stack of bills. "You'll have to pay all my bills from the past month, or I won't take care of her."

He chuckled before taking them and signing every one of them. "You won't use my bank card, yet you keep making me sign the bills. Don't torture me like this after we tie the knot, Ilaria."

Without uttering a single word, I accepted the stack of bills and carefully placed them into my bag.

There was no future for us anymore, Enzo. Hidden among the bills he couldn't even be bothered to go through was an agreement to dissolve our engagement. Soon, we would be total strangers.

  • I Gave the Don to His First Love   Chapter 9

Ilaria's POVMy words didn't register with Enzo. He took a step forward and hurriedly pleaded with me, "It was all a misunderstanding! I know I messed up. I've already driven Mia away. She'll never show her face in front of you again. "I've uncovered the truth. I failed you, but I'm begging you to give me one more chance. I'll spend the rest of my life making it up to you—" I didn't feel vindicated as I watched him beg so desperately. I only felt hollow. I had been just like him. I'd loved him more than I loved myself, and I'd walked on eggshells to preserve our relationship. Yet, what did that get me? I was neglected, treated with indifference, and hurt so badly that I died of depression. "Enzo," I cut him off. "The damage you've done to me can never be undone."Enzo shuddered, as if my words had shattered the last thing holding him together. "I don't need you to make it up to me, and I don't need your remorse." I looked him dead in the eye. "I'm very happy right now. Alessi

  • I Gave the Don to His First Love   Chapter 8

Ilaria's POVAfter leaving, I cut all contact with Enzo. Papa arranged for me to meet Alessio Vitale, the heir to the Vitale famiglia. Papa told me that he would one day become the king of the entire underworld and that I would be happy if I married him. After what happened with Enzo, I didn't have particularly high expectations. Yet, on the day we met, Alessio wore a black trench coat and greeted me warmly. His towering figure and striking features immediately captured my undivided attention. "Buonasera, Signora Giulia." His voice was deep and magnetic, like the resonant hum of a cello string. He then courteously pulled out a chair for me, inviting me to take a seat. Once we were seated, he made no effort to flaunt his wealth or status. Instead, he casually asked me how I liked my coffee. Conversation flowed easily throughout the afternoon. He was exceptionally well-spoken, offering unique perspectives without ever being pushy or aggressive. More importantly, whenever h

Third-Person POVMia clutched her cheek and was wide awake in a heartbeat. However, she had no idea where she had slipped up until Enzo showed her the surveillance footage. "You framed Ilaria!" Enzo's eyes bulged, and he looked as if he wanted to tear her apart.Looking at her own deceitful, malicious expression on the screen, Mia blanched. She parted her lips to defend herself, yet she realized that all her excuses were useless in the face of such clear evidence. "No… It's not like that, Enzo! I can explain!" Mia hurriedly grasped his sleeve. Tears spilled over her eyes. "I only did it because I love you too much. I was afraid Ilaria would steal you away from me. S-So, I had a momentary lapse of judgment. I did it for our future!" "Our future?" Enzo scoffed as if he had heard the biggest joke in the world. He abruptly flung her hand away with so much force that she stumbled and hit the headboard. "You were never part of my future! I've only ever had eyes on Ilaria. You were

Third-Person POVBefore his men could locate Ilaria, Enzo discovered something else. One of his men brought him a clip of surveillance footage they had stumbled upon while tracking down Ilaria's whereabouts. "I think you should take a look at it, Don De Luca. Signora Conti... may not be suitable to become our famiglia's Donna."Enzo massaged his throbbing temple and retorted, "I never planned on making Mia my Donna." Without saying a single word, his subordinate played the clip and handed it to him. The surveillance footage showed the housekeepers decorating the venue for Mia's birthday party exactly as Ilaria had instructed. Mia appeared and handed one of the housekeepers a thick wad of cash. As soon as she left, the housekeeper, who had been carefully setting up one of the flower pillars, suddenly snapped it in half and painstakingly disguised it to look intact. The scene shifted to the day of the birthday party. When Ilaria walked over, Mia deliberately lingered next to

Third-Person POVEnzo felt restless at the private hospital. Given Ilaria's personality, she should've thrown a fit the moment she found out he had gone out alone with Mia. Yet, it was way too quiet at the moment. He called Ilaria, but no one answered. Panic surged through him, and he sprang to his feet, making a beeline for the exit. He had to go home and check on her. Mia stopped him. "Where are you going? I haven't finished my checkup yet."He paused for a moment and, for the first time, broke free from her hold. "The doctor said you're perfectly healthy. There's no need to continue with the checkup. Let's head home first."Sensing that something was off with him, Mia didn't dare to deliberately stop him again. …As soon as Enzo and Mia returned to the estate, the first thing they saw was the pile of ash in the front yard. Enzo's heart sank. "What happened here?" he demanded, barking at the housekeepers gathered there. The housekeepers were as silent as the grave, too f

  • I Gave the Don to His First Love   Chapter 4

Ilaria's POVTwo days later, with my fractured arm in a cast, I was discharged from the hospital. When I returned to the De Luca residenza, I was met with the scene of Enzo coaxing Mia to eat. The two of them were cuddled up together like a real couple. Enzo turned around when he heard footsteps. His brows drew together as a trace of concern flashed through his cold eyes. "You haven't been home in two days. Were you trying to make me worry about you?" Right after saying that, he finally noticed the cast on my arm. He sprang to his feet and demanded, "What happened? Why are you injured?"I couldn't be bothered to waste my breath on him, so I responded nonchalantly, "It's no big deal. I accidentally sprained it."His belated concern vanished in an instant, and his earlier indifference and impatience returned. "In that case, don't make such a spectacle of it. You'll only make people worry." I hummed in response and made my way toward the bedroom. Enzo, however, stopped me. "You
