Maya's Pov

Everyone was all packed and I stood with my suitcases in the living room.

Nico stood in the middle of the living room, with his arms crossed tightly over his chest, his face was red with anger and frustration.

His voice echoed through the house as he yelled about leaving. He refused to listen to reason, stomping his foot like the world has personally betrayed him.

“I’m not going,” he declared, his voice cracking slightly. “I don’t want to leave, and I don’t want to start school.”

Luca stood a few feet away, rubbing her temples, with exhaustion written all over his face. He had tried to calm him down, speaking softly, offering compromises, but Nico was too far gone in his emotions to hear any of it.

He glanced at me, his eyes filled with quiet sympathy, and a silent cry for help.

I smirk slightly and step forward, crouching slightly so I’m closer to Nico’s eye level.

“Oh,” I say casually, like he hasn’t just declared war on the entire plan. “That’s fine.”

He pauses mid-ta

Maya’s POVI stiffened the moment the announcer’s words sank in.“Piggyback race!”My spine went rigid as if someone had poured ice straight down it.I turned slowly, my eyes darting across the field, taking in the chaos unfolding before my brain could catch up. Parents were already laughing and scrambling around, some crouching, some lifting, while others argued loudly about who should carry whom. One woman hoisted her husband onto her back with surprising ease, earning cheers from the crowd. Another man scooped his wife up in a dramatic bridal carry, spinning her once before jogging toward the starting line like this was some kind of romantic comedy montage. My heart began to thud uncomfortably.I swallowed and turned toward Luca, fully intending to ask him what we were supposed to do, when he moved. One second, he was standing in front of me.The next, his arm slid behind my knees and another around my back and suddenly, the ground disappeared beneath my feet.I gasped.“Oh—-!”Bef

Maya’s POVHe laughed out loudly for a few minutes and that was satisfying to watch,I let out a frown, “what's funny Luca?”“The fact that you think I would be scared of you, just because you removed your shoes,” he muttered in between laughs“But that is true, do you even know how to run? I have been running my whole life and this field is just a piece of cake.”He stared straight me long and hard and for a moment I thought there was something on my face, “I like your determination, but sweetheart there is no beating the champion"My heart skipped. He called me sweetheart, I bit my inner cheeks to stop myself from blushing too hard, “Fine then lets see”The announcer’s voice crackled over the speakers again, louder this time, pulling everyone’s attention back to the center of the field.“Parents for the first event, please step forward,” he said cheerfully. “We’ll be starting with the three legged race.”My stomach dropped.I looked down at my bare feet on the grass, then slowly up

Maya’s POVI was still crouched in front of Nico when the sharp whistle cut through the air.The sound startled me enough that I flinched a little, and Nico laughed, the bright, unrestrained kind that made his whole face light up. He bounced on the balls of his feet, excitement radiating from him in waves.“That’s our cue,” he said, already stepping back.“Careful,” I told him automatically, reaching out to smooth his shirt even though it didn’t need it. “Don’t run.”He grinned at me, eyes shining. “Good luck, Mom.”The word hit me again, softly this time, less shocking, but no less powerful. Before I could respond, he turned and ran off toward the bleachers, weaving between the other children with an energy that seemed endless. I straightened slowly, my smile lingering even as my chest felt tight in a way I didn’t fully understand.“Be careful!” I called after him.He didn’t look back, but he lifted a hand in a quick wave.I was still watching him when Luca stepped up beside me.“The

Luca’s POVI couldn’t remember the last time I had forgotten how to breathe. It happened the moment she stepped out of the car and into the morning light, the school gates rising behind her like a stage she somehow owned. The sun caught in her hair, turning it soft and bright, and the gown hugged her body in a way that made my throat go dry.I reached for her hand without thinking. Her fingers slid into mine too easily, like they had always known where they belonged. The contact sent a jolt through me, sharp and unfamiliar. I tightened my grip just slightly, grounding myself, reminding myself why we were here. For Nico. We were not a real couple and this facade is only because of Nico.We walked together through the gates, our steps falling into an unintentional rhythm. The school grounds buzzed with activities children laughing around in their pairs, parents were chatting in neat clusters, teachers moving about with clipboards and whistles. It all felt surreal, like I had stepped int

Maya’s POVTime stopped making sense somewhere between the second cup of lukewarm tea they gave to me and the moment they soaked my hands in warm, perfumed water. At first, I kept asking how long it would take. Then I stopped asking altogether. They ushered me from one chair to another like I was made of glass, their voices were low and efficient, and their hands constantly moving. Someone brushed my hair back, another clipped it away from my face. A woman with sharp eyes and soft fingers examined my skin like it was a canvas she’d been waiting for. Every time I tried to look at a mirror, one of them gently but firmly shifted my chin away.“No peeking,” the manager said with a playful warning. “Trust the process.”Trust, that word felt dangerous. They started with my nails. I hadn’t realized how chipped they were until the polish came off completely, leaving them dull and uneven. I watched silently as they shaped them, buffed them, painted them in a soft, elegant shade that looked not

  • I Hired My Favorite Stripper to Be My Nanny   Chapter 63

Maya’s POVThe car door closed behind me with a soft, final thud.I stood there for a second longer than necessary, one foot already on the pavement, my mind still trapped inside the vehicle with Luca’s voice. ‘Whatever is going on with you, take care of it.’ The words clung to me sharp and lingering, and I hated how much they affected me.I straightened slowly, smoothing my hands over my skirt as if it had wrinkled during the short ride, then followed Luca toward the mall entrance. His stride was steady and confident, the kind of walk that made people instinctively move out of his way. I had to half-jog to keep up, my heels clicking nervously against the polished floor.‘Get it together, Maya,’ I told myself. This wasn’t about me. It wasn’t about the strange tension in the car or the way my heart had slammed against my ribs when he’d grabbed my arm. It wasn’t about how close he’d been or how quickly he’d pulled away like he’d crossed a line he hadn’t meant to approach. This was about
