CHAPTER SIXTEEN

The door exploded inward.

A massive shadow stepped through the dust.

I tightened my grip on the Widow-Maker.

For a moment, none of us moved.

The creature was enormous.

It stood nearly three meters tall, with thick black fur covering most of its body. Two curved horns grew from its forehead, and its arms were long enough for its claws to scrape against the sewer floor.

But the most disturbing thing was its face.

It had the head of a wolf.

And three glowing violet eyes.

  • I KNOW THE FUTURE:THE LAST SURVIVOR    The Child We Buried

CHAPTER THIRTY-SEVEN“You're the child we buried.”The doctor's words hung in the corridor. For a moment, I forgot about the monsters gathering behind the nurse. I forgot about the countdown. All I could see was the face in front of me.My face. The same dark eyes. The same jawline. Even the small scar beneath the left eyebrow that I had carried since childhood. But there was something different about him.He looked older. Not by decades, but by enough years to make me wonder how long he had been alive.“Who are you?” I asked. He studied me.“I'm the person who remembers what happened before you were given a name.”“That doesn't answer my question.”“It answers more than you think.”The nurse stepped aside.“Doctor Miller, the correction process has begun. We have three minutes.”He didn't look at her.“Stop it.”The nurse hesitated. “But the records—”“I said stop it.”Every patient in the corridor froze. The red warning above my vision disappeared.[IDENTITY CORRECTION PAUSED.][HOS

CHAPTER THIRTY-SIX The newborn kept crying. Its cries echoed through the hospital entrance, rising above the distant alarms and the groaning of the damaged building. I stared into the darkness beyond the open doors. Ten minutes. That was how long I had before the System decided which Aeron Miller was allowed to exist. “Stay close,” I told the others. Elena drew her sword. Daniel checked his rifle, while Julius tried to summon his Authority of Dominion. The black veins around his neck immediately tightened. He stopped. “Still can't control it,” he muttered. “Then don't force it,” I said. He gave me a bitter smile. “You're beginning to sound like someone who cares whether I survive.” “Don't flatter yourself. I just don't want to carry your body.” The girl moved past us and entered the hospital. “Argue later. If the other one finishes the synchronization, none of us will remember why we're here.” I followed her inside. The reception area was deserted. Chairs had been over

  • I KNOW THE FUTURE:THE LAST SURVIVOR    The Other Aeron Miller

CHAPTER THIRTY-FIVE [ORIGINAL IDENTITY HOLDER DETECTED.] [LOCATION: OAKHAVEN CENTRAL HOSPITAL.] [STATUS: ALIVE.] I read the notification three times, hoping the words would change. They didn't. For years, I had believed my greatest enemy was Julius Everton. He had betrayed me, taken the violet gemstone, and driven a knife into my chest. Even after my regression, I had blamed every unexpected change on his actions. Now the System was telling me someone else had my identity. Someone who was supposed to be dead. Someone who was still alive. “Show me the details,” I ordered. [ACCESS DENIED.] [REASON: ORIGINAL IDENTITY CONFLICT.] I nearly laughed. “Of course. Why would anything be simple?” Elena wiped the blood from the corner of her mouth. “Can you explain what just happened?” “The System says another Aeron Miller is alive at the hospital.” Daniel lowered his rifle. “Another Aeron Miller? You mean someone with your name?” “I mean someone the System recognizes as the orig

  • I KNOW THE FUTURE:THE LAST SURVIVOR    The Child Who never existed

CHAPTER THIRTY-FOURThe elevator shuddered beneath our feet.I stared at the System notification floating before my eyes, unable to ignore the words that had appeared at the end of the last message.IDENTITY CONFLICT WILL BECOME IRREVERSIBLE.Two original birth records. Two children. One name. And something beneath Central Tower had just called me its little brother.“Tell me what you know,” I said to the girl. She glanced at the elevator doors. “I know we have a problem.”“That isn't an answer.”“It's the only one I can give you without making things worse.”Julius leaned against the wall, one hand pressed against his ribs. His face had regained some color, but black veins still crawled beneath the skin around his neck. Whatever had happened during the authority trial, his body hadn't recovered.“She's hiding something,” he muttered. The girl looked at him. “You murdered your best friend and spent the next five years helping the person who arranged it. Maybe you should sit this conve

  • I KNOW THE FUTURE:THE LAST SURVIVOR    Sixty Seconds to Death

CHAPTER THIRTY-THREE [HOST WILL BE CLAIMED IN 60 SECONDS.] The notification burned across my vision. I couldn't move. The black-marked hand remained stretched through the opening in the enormous door. Its fingers curled slowly, almost inviting me to take hold. Come home, little brother. Those words kept repeating in my head. I had no brother. At least, not one I remembered. "Aeron!" Elena's voice sounded distant. She grabbed my shoulder and pulled, but my feet remained planted against the floor. The violet symbols on my palm had spread beyond my wrist, forming thin lines beneath my skin. The countdown continued. [00:51.] The girl rushed toward me. "Don't look at the hand!" "I can't move!" "Then stop trying to move your body. Fight the connection!" "What connection?" She seized my marked wrist with both hands. "The authority is using your temporal signature to recognize you. If it completes the connection, it won't need your permission anymore!" The black hand twitch

CHAPTER THIRTY-TWO"The man with the silver hair?" I repeated. The boy behind the glass shook his head."No. He's only a messenger.""Then who heard me?"The boy smiled faintly."You did."I stared at him."That makes no sense.""It will."Behind me, Elena shifted Julius's weight against her shoulder. Daniel kept his rifle trained on the corridor, while the unnamed girl stood perfectly still.I glanced at her."How much do you know about this place?""Enough to know we shouldn't be here.""That's not an answer.""It's the only one I can give you right now."The boy laughed."She's still afraid of the truth."The girl's expression hardened."Be quiet.""Or what? You'll erase another memory?"She went pale.I turned toward her."What is he talking about?"She didn't answer.I faced the boy again."You said something heard my regret. Then you said I heard it myself. Explain it properly."The boy stepped away from the glass and returned to his bed."Come inside."The door unlocked with a
