~ELENA’S POV~“Mom,” I echoed softly as I dropped a pack of fresh strawberries on the side table. “I brought your favorite.”I went to visit my mom, Leni Frost, at the hospital. She was meant to have her first physical therapy session this morning, just as the doctors prescribed. So I came to be by her side and give her every support that she needed. My mom's lips curved into a faint smile, her frail hand lifting slowly to touch my cheek. “Oh, my baby… You always remember. That's good of you.”I leaned in closer, kissing her forehead. I pulled the chair closer to her bedside and sat, carefully adjusting the blanket over my mom's shoulders. But she signalled me to let it be as she tried to sit up on the bed. For a moment, silence pressed on the atmosphere. The rhythmic beeping of the monitor and soft rustling of sheets filled my ears.“You look tired, Elena.” My mom said in a mild tone, her voice thin but affectionate.“I’m okay, mom,” I assured, though I sensed from the look on my mot
~ELENA’S POV~I mused, reflecting on my past with Alex. Even though Max was sponsoring the whole business idea financially. I didn't want what happened between me and Alex to repeat itself. “That's a brilliant idea,” I complimented. “I understand you're financing this business yourself, but to be honest with you, Max, I'm scared.”“What? Why are you scared, Elena?” Max's brows narrowed, his voice softened. “I want the best for you, so what's there to be scared of?”“I feel like I'm going down the same path with you, like I did with Alex.” I grimaced, “That path didn't favour me. It brought me sorrow and pain.”Max grabbed both of my hands in his, as he professed, “Elena, I understand you just came out of a toxic and traumatic marriage. And for that reason, you're finding it difficult to trust men around you. But I want to assure you that not all men are the same, either way, I'm going to prove that to you, but you have to give me the chance to.”“Fine, I'm not trying to be greedy or
~ELENA’S POV~After the divorce charade with Alex, a few months ago. I swore never to trust any man in my life and this wasn't because of the divorce with Alex, but because Alex didn't fulfill the terms on which I signed the divorce agreement. And that is paying my mother's hospital bills before she was transferred to Max's hospital. After all these, believe me when I say I lost every expectation in life or anyone, it made me believe that in this life, no one is coming to save you unless you save yourself.Unfortunately for me, Max came into the picture and changed everything: my mentality, my perspective towards life, my beliefs and understanding. He did all this by simply honoring his words and our agreement. “I'd love to take you out on our first official date tonight, Elena,” Max announced as we walked through the lawn. “What do you think?”I paused for a bit, I mused. Why does he want to take me out on a date all of a sudden? I had a lot of questions in my head with no answers
~RILEY’S POV~The sight of Elena at my doorstep last night raised a sense of insecurity, like she was here to take away or destroy what I carefully built. Alex was the only ticket I had to a life filled with wealth, luxury and every good thing that comes with it. And this child in my womb is the only reason I'm tied to the fox family. I feared that having Elena around Alex could ruin my chance at having a good life. So, instead of Elena destroying my life and plans, I'd rather destroy her first. Like my mother would always say, ‘The best form of defense is to attack.' I sort of way to completely sabotage and cut off every tie she has with Alex. I knew the best way to accomplish that was to make her a threat to the one thing Alex loved most, which was his unborn child. I guess my plan worked.I lay on my hospital bed, deeply immersed in thoughts, when I got knocked out of my imagination by the creaking sound of the door hinges. I tilt my head slowly towards the entrance. My mother, Ton
~ELENA’S POV~The buzz from Max's phone pulled us out of our moment of playful banter. Max quickly glanced at the phone screen, and his expression changed from playful to intent. I mused, could there be something wrong? I patiently waited for him as he swiped the phone screen. He picked the call. He listened without uttering a single word. In a few seconds, he ended the call, then turned his gaze towards me.Max sighed, “It's time… Elena, I have a surprise for you.” He announced.I brushed a strand of hair away from my face with raised brows, “A surprise for me? Wait– don't tell me it's another one of your secret doors,” I teased, though I smiled, yet, it couldn't hide the curious expression laced on my face.Max laughed softly, his laugh lines crisping at the edges, “Something like that. But this one… It's certainly for you.”I smiled. Closely observing as Max rose from the stool. Max placed his hand against the edge of the foosball table for balance before he reached out for his wal
~ELENA’S POV~Max insists I put in the code, but I didn't understand his reasons. I mused, what if it was a secret door to somewhere, or it probably has confidential and important things in the room. Whatever was behind the door, I guess I'm about to find out.“The code is 32721401. Go ahead and punch in the code, Elena,” Max demanded.“Okay,” I paused for a moment, then moved towards the door. I put in the code, and the door unlocked.Lo and behold, it was a huge game room with beautiful sofas and a bar at the end of the room. I stepped into the room with Max walking behind me. I noticed a pool table, a foosball table, air hockey, a big screen television and a PlayStation console with controllers. “Wow! This is amazing. Is that a foosball table? I love playing foosball,” my brows wiggled, I turned and offered a bemused smile. “I thought it was a secret room made to keep confidential materials.”“Why would you think that?” Max narrowed his brows.“The door was kind of different from e
