I may not feel pain, but I was not immune to blood loss. Overwhelmed by dizziness, I was barely able to remain standing.

Chloe Smith shrieked when she saw the blood gushing out. Julian Sterling gently covered her eyes.

“Don’t look, Chloe. You’re an artist. Your eyes are not meant to look at such filthy gore.”

Vinnie Anderson sneered.

“I never took you for a loving man. No one would believe that the high and mighty Mr. Sterling needed a woman to get him out of this pickle!”

“That’s none of your business. You gave us a price, and we’ve paid up. Come here, Scarlett.”

I stumbled and trailed after Julian. My blood dripped as I walked.

Julian frowned when he saw my pale complexion.

“Get in the car, I’ll send you to the hospital.”

I stood before the front passenger door as usual, but Julian stopped me.

“Chloe easily gets carsick. You can sit in the back.”

Julian smiled dotingly and opened the front passenger door for Chloe. He carefully shielded her so she would not bump her head on the car door.

However, he did not even bat an eyelid at my profuse bleeding.

My heart sank a little at the contrast.

I had always found Julian to be aloof.

Even when we were sharing moments of intimacy, his actions were consistently overbearing and forceful. It was nothing like the respect he had for Chloe.

I held back the bitterness in my heart and immediately got into the backseat.

He had only started driving for a while when Chloe suddenly heaved.

“Julian, the smell of blood is too much. I feel really unwell.”

Julian glanced at me and said, “Scarlett’s injuries are very serious. If we don’t send her to the hospital in time…”

Before he could finish talking, Chloe heaved again and sobbed.

Julian no longer hesitated. He immediately rolled down all the car windows and slammed on the brakes.

The sudden impact slammed my head into the window. The next second, Julian opened my car door and looked down at me.

“It’s only about 6 miles to the hospital. It won’t take you long to run over there.”

I immediately understood what he was implying.

Two years ago, Julian was severely wounded by his enemies. I carried his unconscious body on my back for three days before we finally escaped the wilderness.

At that time, my femur was fractured, and I was covered with wounds and cuts. I was almost crippled for life.

I still had a weakness in my right leg whenever it rained.

Julian hugged me lovingly and told me that he would make them pay a hundred times over. He vowed to never let me get hurt like that again.

Those vows no longer carried any meaning.

I had just shut the car door when his Rolls-Royce immediately sped away. The exhaust fumes made me cough while my eyes teared up.

The early winter’s wind was frigid. The cold threatened to rob me of my consciousness.

My blood seemed to have frozen up. I almost lost my balance. A black Maybach coincidentally stopped before me.

“Ms. Scarlett, Mr. Sterling has instructed me to send you to the hospital.”

Because of the special nature of my job, I rarely wore high heels.

The only time I wore them was because they were gifted by Julian.

Julian had been very aroused that day.

I had been wearing high heels as he held me against the window passionately.

When I saw the delicate shoe box with a luxury brand logo printed on it, I felt a little touched.

Just as I reached out, the driver stopped me.

“Ms. Scarlett, Mr. Sterling got this custom-made for Ms. Chloe…”

I retracted my hand.

I had almost bled myself dry. My arm had started to turn strangely pale.

The big screens along the street were broadcasting news. Reportedly, Julian had spent millions of dollars building an art gallery for Chloe. He bore an extremely loving smile on the screen.

“The money means nothing compared to Chloe’s happiness.”

Pain shot through my heart.

I looked down and saw the latest text message on my phone.

[I will pay you ten times more than what Julian’s paying you. How about you come and work for me?]

I used my uninjured right hand and slowly typed a reply.

[Sure.]
