Chapter 6

Author: Rising South
I shoved the screen right in front of Wendell's eyes.

"Here, Mr. Top-Of-The-Year, explain this to me," I said, staring into his eyes. "Did I hire people to take compromising photos of you and extort 200 thousand dollars from you, or was it that little delinquent Lucille who got you into trouble, leaving you held hostage and calling me in the middle of the night, begging for money to save her?"

The air around us went still again, and the yelling from the three sets of parents stopped abruptly.

  • I Let My Three Childhood Friends Die   Chapter 11

Half a month later, Jeremy, Gregory, and Wendell's detention period ended. They were released, then promptly transferred straight into a mandatory drug rehabilitation facility. In those two weeks, all three families had been turned completely upside down.Mr. Burke, desperate to use money to pull some strings for Gregory, embezzled company funds, only to be caught red-handed. Following the evidence, investigators uncovered years of him taking bribes. The Burke family went bankrupt. Mr. Burke was taken in for investigation, while Mrs. Burke, unable to handle the blow, suffered a mental breakdown and was committed to a psychiatric hospital.Mr. McFadden, furious over Jeremy's ruined future, took it all out on Mrs. McFadden. The two fought at home constantly, eventually resulting in three broken ribs for Mrs. McFadden. Ultimately, Mr. McFadden was detained on domestic violence charges. As for the Trudeaus, Mr. Trudeau thought that Wendell was an utter disgrace, so he filed for divor

The sunlight was blinding.Behind the iron bars, Jeremy's screams gradually faded into desperate, broken whimpers."Don't look, Abby," Mom said as she reached out to cover my eyes."It's fine."I pulled her hands down and opened the car door. "Let's go home."The car pulled out, quickly leaving the police station far behind us.…That afternoon, the farce outside R.S. High started trending across local social media.#StudentsMissCEAInGroupSexScandal#TopStudentPhotographedNudeAtNightclub#BannersDemanding200,000DollarsOutsideExamCenterEach topic was more sensational than the last. The police report was issued promptly. Everything was laid out clearly and irrefutably. The nightclub involved was shut down, and the gang leader was taken into custody on criminal charges related to extortion, drug activity, and organized prostitution.Given that she was an accomplice in the setup, Lucille faced prosecution as well.As for Jeremy, Gregory, and Wendell, the report left no room

The moment the words "criminal case" were uttered, the trio's fate was effectively sealed.Missing the CEA was just the beginning. A permanent criminal record, expulsion, and even impending jail time—that was where this road would ultimately lead."No… No, this can't be real…"Mrs. Trudeau's legs gave out beneath her. She collapsed onto the floor, her eyes hollow as she stared blankly ahead and muttered to herself. To raise a son who would rank first in his year, she'd quit her job and had dedicated 18 years of her life to his education. Now, it had all gone up in smoke."This is all your fault!" Mr. McFadden roared. All of a sudden, as if he'd lost his mind, he lunged for Mr. Burke and punched him right in the face."It was your bastard son who insisted on dragging my Jeremy to the nightclub! Give me back my son's future!""Bullshit!"Refusing to take that lying down, Mr. Burke swung back immediately, striking Mr. McFadden right back."It was clearly your idiot son Jeremy wh

Harsh fluorescent lights illuminated the hallway at the downtown precinct, and the air was a mixture of disinfectant and cheap cigarettes.I sat in an interview room and calmly finished giving my statement. The entire series of events was laughably straightforward.Lucille had run up a debt at the nightclub, and so she had intentionally lured these three self-proclaimed devoted lapdogs over to be her personal ATMs. But not only did the three idiots not have any money, they also got drunk, caused trouble, and ended up stripped, filmed, and blackmailed by a gang.As for why they had been frantically calling me all night? It was because in their minds, I was just their personal, unpaid maid who was always at their beck and call, ready to clean up their messes. After giving my statement, I walked out of the interview room. The three sets of parents were pacing anxiously outside in the hallway. The moment they saw me step out, they swarmed over as if I were their last lifeline."Abby!

The photographs fluttered through the air, scattering across the street outside the exam center like snowflakes. A light morning breeze caught a few of them, sending them swirling through the air, before they landed squarely on Mrs. McFadden's face. She instinctively reached out to grab them to take a look. Her eyes instantly widened as a strangled sound escaped her throat. In the photo, her prized athlete son was kneeling stark naked next to a table in a private room. There was even a dog collar around his neck. Next to him, Gregory and Wendell were just as naked, crouched in a corner with their hands over their heads, like three chickens waiting to be slaughtered. Before he could stop himself, a younger parent in the crowd blurted, "Wow! And he thinks he's a player with that size?"The crowd immediately descended into chaos. The parents and classmates who had been pointing fingers at me moments earlier were now scrambling to pick up the photographs, passing them around like spec

The color had completely drained from his face. Meanwhile, Gregory's legs buckled, and he nearly fell to the ground."No… No, that's not it…" Jeremy stammered, his eyes darting around frantically."Not what?"I lowered my phone and looked at them coldly. "No, you didn't go to a nightclub? Or you weren't stripped naked by thugs and then filmed? Or you weren't forced to write an IOU for 200 thousand dollars?"The three of them visibly f
