Chapter 4

Author: Maizie
I sneered to myself.

She was trying to make it sound so noble. She claimed that I was selfish while acting as though she was concerned about Theo.

However, she was the one who had snuck the walkie-talkie into Theo’s bag.

If Theo was punished, her crime would eventually be uncovered. She had to be worried about her own future.

“I’ve already said that I don’t like him.”

I cocked an eyebrow.

“But it seems like you like him a lot. Why don’t you sacrifice yourself for him?”

Flora’s face turned pale. She bit her lower lip tightly as she glared at me.

Before I could say anything else, a group of reporters suddenly surrounded me. Officer Deacon walked over, followed by Theo, who looked furious.

“She begged to have revisions together yesterday. I bet she snuck that into my bag then! She wanted to frame me!”

The reporters’ cameras were aimed at me.

“Lucy, did you really sneak the walkie-talkie into Theo’s bag?”

“According to the examination regulations, it’s against the rules to bring in walkie-talkies.”

“Why did you do that? Are you jealous? What were you thinking?”

“I heard that you did this out of jealousy and heart break. Is that true?”

Even though I did not say anything, they had already jumped to conclusions for me.

Officer Deacon walked toward me.

“Lucy, cheating is not a laughing matter. Please come back with us to the station for us to take some statements from you.”

“Right now?”

I looked at my watch. “I’m going into the examination hall in half an hour.”

Officer Deacon did not say anything, but I understood it. If I were to go to the police station, I would not be able to attend the examinations.

Theo was glaring at me from the side.

His gaze was different from what it was in the morning. He did not look confident that I would take the blame. Instead, his gaze was vicious.

“We can’t let her go. She used the surveillance footage as an excuse to escape in the morning. We don’t have a surveillance camera at home!

“She caused me to miss my examinations. If you let her go through with hers, it’d be unfair to me!”

There was a commotion before the school gate. Some students were getting restless.

“It’s them again… My thought process was interrupted in the morning because of them. They’re continuing this nonsense now?”

“What a waste of our time. Can you guys just take her away? Don’t crowd the school.”

Flora took the opportunity to hide her face and retreated. Theo leaned over.

He whispered softly so I was the only one who could hear it.

“Lucy, you’ve forced me to do this. Why did you desert me?

“Even though I don’t know who’s behind this, as long as I insist that it’s you, the police would need to look into you. Could you afford to lose your precious examination time?

“Flora’s family will be able to save me. Worse comes to worst, they can just send me overseas to have a fresh start.

“What about you? You don’t have a contingency.”

I could not help but grip the corner of my shirt. My palms were sweaty.

Flora wanted to escape, and Theo wanted me to be the scapegoat.

The cameras kept flashing, and more people gathered around us.

A guy yelled loudly, “Don’t crowd up the school entrance. The examination is about to start!”

Officer Deacon took another step forward.

“Lucy, please cooperate with us. Let’s not interrupt the other students.”

Theo thought he had everything down pat. He turned to look at Flora.

They were staring at each other lovingly through the crowd. There were excited smiles on their faces.

I clenched my teeth and said softly, “I know who planted that walkie-talkie.”

Everyone fell quiet. Theo’s expression changed.

“Don’t try to drag this out! It’s you!”

The students were growing impatient.

“That’s right, so what if you say you know it?”

“It’s your words against theirs.”

“Don’t waste your time. Take her away! We still need to sit for our examinations!”

Officer Deacon frowned.

“Lucy, you can’t end the investigation with a single statement.”

“I have proof.”

My voice was soft, but every single word was clearly heard.

“I’ve captured the whole process. It’s in my photo gallery.”

  • I Let The Class Belle And Her Friend Cheat   Chapter 10

After I reached the train station, I wiped the sweat on my forehead. Then, I took out the precious letter from the inner compartment of my bag. To prevent my parents from noticing, Mary only transferred me four thousand and six hundred dollars to my bank account. She gave me the remaining three thousand dollars in cash and hid it in this bag.I panted and carefully put the money back. I turned around and saw Theo standing nearby. “Lucy, I heard you got into an Ivy League. “Congratulations, that’s always been your dream.” He looked even thinner. He no longer sounded as confident as he used to. I took a few steps back vigilantly. He smiled awkwardly and passed me a plastic bag. “Take these few apples. You can have them as snacks on the journey there.” I did not take them. He retreated a little awkwardly. “I… The police had looked into the matter. I indeed didn’t know about the gadget, but I didn’t manage to retake the examinations. The news went viral, and no schoo

“I really did not know that she’s the one who did that. She was talking nonsense the other day because she was afraid of taking sole responsibility. That’s why she dragged me in.”“Theo, I do know that you were unaware.” He was stunned. A hint of hope flashed in his eyes. “Can you be my witness then? I didn’t mean to frame you. I was too afraid, so I wasn’t thinking straight…”“You’re afraid, so you made me the scapegoat.”He shut his eyes in guilt. “Theo, surely you know how it feels to be taken away by the police in front of everyone. When you framed me, did you intend for me to feel the same way too?”“No, I was too afraid. That’s why I made the wrong decision.” “When you made that wrong decision, you only thought of using me as the scapegoat. Why didn’t you think of framing Flora instead?”He looked down. He was trying to find an answer, but he did not have one. I continued with my task on hand. After a while, I looked up and he had left. At night, I went back to M

In the end, she said, “At least they’re paying for additional expenses. That’s good.“You should save all your salary. Don’t simply spend it.“Ian wants a pair of sneakers that cost eight thousand dollars. I’ll send you the link.“Remember to buy it before his summer break. Don’t disappoint him.” Mary frowned when she heard that. She wanted to say something a few times, but I stopped her. I was used to such treatment. I humored them a little before hanging up. Then, I moved into the small bedroom in Mary’s house. Since my salary was given monthly, my parents did not bother me at all in between the paychecks. Two weeks later, I was preparing some simple syrup in the back kitchen when I heard someone mentioning my name at the front counter. “Hello, is Lucy working here?”It was Liz. Mary hesitantly called me out. Liz looked defeated. Her back was bent over, and she was sighing non-stop. Peter was standing beside her with a darkened expression. When Peter saw me, he sn

I did not say anything. He added, “Please help me, it’s very simple.“I’m begging you, Lucy. Don’t you like me the most?”I turned around to look at him. In the past, when I was locked in the basement by my parents, I had managed to escape once. However, when I went out, I bumped into Theo. He saw how disheveled I was, yet he stopped me from leaving. Then, he called my parents and said that I looked indecent before asking them to teach me a good lesson. I had been trembling in fear as I practically begged him to let me go. He only replied, “Lucy, so what if I can let you go? You didn’t treat Flora with the same kindness.” I lost all hope. My parents locked me up again, and they added two extra locks. Since then, I could not escape. I was left starving to death. Hence, I simply asked him, “Theo, I can let you go. But why wouldn’t you let me go?”After I said that, I turned around and went into the examination hall. I heard Flora’s cries and Theo’s yells from behin

Flora immediately teared up. She knew that she could accuse me of editing the video, but the nearby surveillance footage would be evidence too. After all, she was still a young woman. Officer Deacon might be bluffing, but she was terrified. Her voice was trembling. “I… I just wanted to scare him a little…“I didn’t mean to accuse him of cheating… I was just really angry at him for embarrassing me in front of so many people. He also has something for Lucy…” Officer Deacon interrupted her. “So, are you admitting that you’re the one who planted this gadget?”Tears streamed down her cheeks. She nodded. Theo had been listening to her from the side. He initially looked shocked, then he became angry. He started yelling, “You’re the one who did it?!“Flora, are you crazy? Why did you do that?“This examination is so important! This isn’t some minor test! We could be jailed if we get caught cheating!”Flora cried even harder when Theo yelled at her. “I was angry! You were on

Officer Deacon said reflexively, “In that case, you may come to the police station with your phone.” I shook my head resolutely. “If I went with you and proved my innocence at the police station, I wouldn’t be able to come back on time for my examinations.“This is a very important examination, and it’ll affect my college application. Is that a responsibility that you can shoulder?” They exchanged glances and then looked at Theo. Theo was dumbfounded. He still did not know who was the culprit. He just thought as long as he dragged me into the mess, I would be the scapegoat and go into the prison for him. Then, he would be the innocent victim. In that case, he would be able to retake his examinations. If I managed to clear my name, he would no longer have a scapegoat to blame on. “No… No way! You’re just stalling!” “All of you can watch the video together.” I passed my phone over and increased the screen brightness. I showed it to both the police and the reporters’
