Chapter 6

Penulis: Zoe bear
When I walked out of the airport, I caught the familiar scent before I even saw him.

My brother-Alpha Damon.

Phone pressed to his ear, he leaned against his matte-black SUV.

As soon as I stepped into view, his eyes locked on me, and a slow grin spread across his face. Without a word, he reached out and ruffled my hair like I was still his baby sister who used to chew on table legs during full moons.

“Yeah, she just landed,” he said into the phone. “Didn’t ask yet… Let her rest first—it was a long flight.” A beat passed. “Don’t worry. We’ll be home soon.”

He hung up and eyed the small duffel bag slung over my shoulder. His brow arched.

“This is all you brought?” he asked. “Did he leave you penniless?”

I snorted. “Please. If anyone’s leaving with nothing, it’s Alpha Tom.”

I might’ve lost my title, my place in the Sunfire Pack, and about 90% of my dignity, but the property? Oh, I walked away with claws full.

Alpha Tom gave up nearly everything. Aside from the family house and his precious

I saw Alpha Tom again long after everything had ended. It happened during a grand, romantic confession—one that lit up the night sky. Four glittering words painted across the heavens like the Moon Goddess herself was shipping us: "Grace, I Love You." I blinked at the message, my heart thudding . The last spark flared out, and I lowered my gaze to the man in front of me. Alpha Larry. My Larry. Usually all swagger and smirks—now nervously tugging at his collar like a pup caught sneaking into a ranked wolf meeting. "Well, Alpha Larry?" I teased, arching a brow."Say it! Say it already!" "Don’t chicken out now, Larry!" "We lit fireworks for this!" Our friends were hollering from the sidelines, and even a few wolves had stopped to watch. Phones out. Smiles wide. But my wolf… she stiffened. Just a little. A quiet shift in the wind brought his scent. And there he was. Tom. Standing alone under a streetlamp like he’d stepped straight out of a haunted memory. A year had

My brother didn’t ask what I left for Alpha Tom. He knew I wouldn’t tell. The truth was—I couldn’t. If he ever found out about the pup I lost—the one whose father chose another woman’s lie over our truth—he would lose it. And I didn’t want him to burn down the world. Not yet. The night I ended up in the hospital… gods. I still smell the bleach and blood. I was curled up in that too-white bed, my wolf whimpering deep inside, while Alpha Tom—my supposed mate—was out parading Becky around. He didn’t even text. Not a damn word. And that’s when I knew. To him, I was disposable. Hell, maybe we both were. Me and the pup. See, people who are truly loved? They get reckless. Becky dared to fake a pregnancy to trap an Alpha. Alpha Tom dared dismiss the possibility of my pregnancy to chase his white lie. In the safe, Three things. 1. A painting – A little girl with my eyes, his stubborn jaw. The daughter we used to whisper about under the stars. “I hope she looks like

Alpha Tom’s eyes wiScotted in shock at my request. He never expected me to be so resolute. But I hadn’t said it to hear his answer. The world was big, and I wasn’t some omega she-wolf with no backing or bite. I was born into the Golden Fang Pack, trained by my lunatic warlord of a brother, and raised by a Luna who once killed a rogue with her stiletto. Avoiding my ex? Please. That was the easiest part of being me.I turned and walked away without looking back. The sun was warm, the breeze gentle—a perfect day for a journey. Alpha Tom had always assumed that after the divorce, I would return to the Golden Fang Pack, waiting passively for him to come retrieve me. What he didn’t know was... well, my family wasn’t exactly into forgiveness. Especially not my brother, Damon, whose idea of “justice” usually involved explosives and long-distance snipers.I didn’t interfere in his plans. Family business, you know?As I reached the pack’s private airstrip—yes, my brother insists on flying

The day we finalized the divorce dawned bright and clear—sunlight piercing through the clouds, warm against our skin. Everything went smoothly. I had entrusted all asset divisions to my lawyers. As for the belongings in the villa, my private organizer handled them with one instruction: Sell everything Alpha Tom ever gave me—jewelry, property, all of it—and deposit the proceeds into my account. Tucking the divorce certificate into my bag, I turned to leave after a brief farewell. Alpha Tom reached for me, his hand hovering midair before dropping. "Grace, let’s talk. That day at the hospital—I didn’t mean to leave you waiting. There were reporters; it wasn’t the right time to be seen together." His words tumbled out in a rush. "Are you still angry? I’ve been swamped—Becky’s pregnancy has been hard on her. The online rumors have made her depressed, and she’s terrified I’ll leave her for you." “Grace. I’m exhausted—between her and the pack and—everything. You understand, don’t you?

Time passed quietly at home.I deliberately tuned out all news related to him. Anytime his name popped up on the pack forums or in some overly dramatic headline—“Alpha Tom and Model Mate Welcome Mystery Pup”—I’d simply scroll faster.Instead, I focused on preparing for my studies abroad. Shadow Crown’s university wasn’t just a school—it was the hub for every ambitious shifter with a brain and a bloodline. I was ready to dive back in. One week before the divorce was scheduled to be finalized, I was curled up on my bed, a book in one hand .Then my phone buzzed.A message from a number I should’ve deleted moons ago.Where are you?I stared at the screen, then set the phone down face-first on the nightstand. Let him wonder.Another buzz.Don’t forget—we have an appointment at the registry office.Still, I didn’t answer. We both knew what day it was. I didn’t need a reminder .Ever since that day—when he walked away with Becky under the bright lights and paparazzi flashes—there’d been not
