ALEXANDER

I gazed out of the window that was slightly blurred with rain drops, the glass had caught the reflection on the woman, lying on my bed…

She thought I sent those black dahlias to mock her. She was wrong. I sent them to provoke her. To shatter her patience and let her walk straight into my territory with fire in her eyes.

Impressive, honestly.

For a princess who had never seen hardships, I half expected her to crumble when the world turned its back, including the betrayal from the man around whom she had once evolved her world, but she didn’t. She came for my throat.

Even fainting was an act of defiance—her body collapsing only when her pride finally ran out of air…

Elowen Corvella was never a part of my plan, but when I saw her tearing those men apart that night, I knew I had found a key—A key to walk all over the Corvellas.

Indeed, she would get hurt in the process, but—it’s life, isn't it? Her brother and grandmother must pay for what they did…

I stepped quietly near the bed.

Her hair fell across her face, damp from the IV’s saline scent. Every inch of her looked fragile. But I knew better. Fragility was her camouflage. And if I was going to break the Corvellas, I needed her to wear it well.

I traced a finger over the vase of black dahlias I had sent earlier—fresh replacements.

The color of endings. The flower of betrayal. Very fitting, wasn’t it?...

Suddenly, my phone buzzed. Glancing at her once, I walked over to the window. It was my legal advisor, Ethan.

“Hmm,” I received the call.

“Mr. Veyrek,” said Ethan, “Adrian Hale just filed the lawsuit against Miss Corvella for brand defamation and misuse of corporate resources. The press got the memo.”

“Of course he did,” I muttered, my voice was calm. “He’s cleaning his own blood with hers.”

“Should we counter it?” He asked.

“Not yet. Let it brew.”

“Understood.”

And, I ended the call, leaning against the window.

Everything was moving exactly as I had predicted… Adrian Hale's ego would strangle him before the year ended. The investors who backed out from Elowen’s deal were already puppets in his PR network.

But she didn’t know the game. Not yet. She was still playing defense. However, I would teach her offense soon enough…

A low groan caught my attention, my gaze drifted to her.

Her lashes moved faintly, a flicker of consciousness. A slight shiver through her breath. Soon, her eyes fluttered open.

She looked confused, in a daze as she looked around, and then, those pearl-like eyes fell on me. She blinked at first, eyes almost went wide and then, a flicker of familiarity lingered there.

Her lips parted. “You…” The word was half-whisper, half-curse.

Well, here we go again…

She tried to sit up; but failed and fell on the pillow with a slight groan.

“Don’t. You're still weak.” I said calmly.

Her eyes shot at me, glaring. Her glare was weak but lethal. “You think this changes anything?”

I tilted my head. “Of course not. But it confirms something.”

“What?” she rasped, narrowing her eyes.

“That you’re more useful than I thought.”

Her eyes widened before they filled with anger. Her hand twitched. If she had the strength, she would’ve slapped me by now.

Instead, she said, “You're shameless! You think you'll do this and I’ll work with you?”

“You already are.” My voice was calm, almost certain. “The moment you walked into my office, you stopped being a rumor and became a story I own.”

Her breathing hitched. “You’re a monster!” She said as if she just realised it.

I almost chuckled. “Well, I’m a businessman.”

She turned away, muttering, “You’re unbelievable…”

“Well, that I am.” I replied, at which she only frowned, yet said nothing.

The silence stretched between us, thick with exhaustion and something neither of us wanted to name.

Then I added, quieter this time: “Rest, Elowen. You’ll need your strength. The real game starts tomorrow.”

Her eyes fluttered shut again—not from fear, but defiance surrendering to fatigue. I thought she would snap though, but she remained silent.

I watched her a moment longer, then turned to leave. At the door, my assistant stood waiting with a file. “Director, the press—”

“I said to silence them.”

“Yes, sir.”

“And make sure Cassian Corvella knows nothing yet.” I added.

He blinked, and then nodded, “yes, sir.”

As I stepped into the elevator, the city glowed beneath me, burning through glass and fog.

Elowen Corvella… The name now hummed under my skin like a countdown.

She thought she had stepped into my world coincidentally, but she hadn’t realized—nothing is coincidence in business.

And soon, the entire Corvella House would learn that…

ALEXANDER The suite became apparent to me before she was aware. Through the glass, I saw her, and even from a distance I could feel the tension repelling from her. Tensed and distracted, She stood by the window like she owned the storm, yet clearly caught in its pull.I stepped inside, knocking the door once. Immediately, silence wrapped us into a thick and hot sheet that felt impossible to navigate.“You’re late,” she snapped, her voice came sharper, yet betraying something else — relief, maybe, or the tiniest spark of hope?“And I had asked you not to go out alone.” I said, making her turn to face me. She wanted to say something, at least her slightly parted lips hinted that, but then, she didn’t, instead, she frowned. “I was bored.” She muttered. “I only went out for a bit of air.”I honestly wanted to snap, but that face—that bloody sad, innocent face stopped me. So—“You’ve managed without me,” I replied, my tone falling casual. But my eyes tracked her every movement sharply,

ALEXANDER The door closed behind me with a quiet click, and the echo of her voice lingered longer than it should have.Tempest… The name settled on my chest like a weight I hadn’t expected, even though I had given her this name, dragging the calm I prided myself on into a current of heat and calculation. I told myself it was a strategy. That every heartbeat she forced from me was a piece of a perfect plan. But the truth… the truth is always louder than the lies we tell ourselves…The city lay before me, a sparkling and boundless expanse. The skyline was mine to command, to manipulate, to bend it however I wanted, and yet, for the first time in a long while, my gaze kept flickering back to her. Elowen… I could almost see her— hands trembling over that damned phone, eyes wide with that blend of fear and desire that always unhinged me. Over the years, I had built walls, rules, and systems — yet she somehow found a way to pierce them without even informing me…I slid into the passenge

ELOWEN I f**king hated the shiver that ran down my spine just with those words of his. “Don’t start.” I hissed, but it sounded more like a purr than a warning. He tilted his head, studying me with that same patient intensity that could peel away every wall I built. “Start what?”“This,” I snapped. “This… whatever you think you’re doing.”He smiled, it was slow and deliberate. “You mean, pretending?”I stared at him. Caught back and stupid. He reached out again, his fingers grazing the collar of my robe. “And here I thought you wanted to keep pretending.” “Stop—” My breath caught in my throat. He did stop — but only to step closer, close enough that I could see the faint shadow of stubble along his jaw, smell the clean, dark scent of him. His voice dropped, all teasing gone. “Relax, Elowen. I’m not going to touch you.”“Good,” I said, except my voice betrayed me. It came out as a lie which I definitely did not want.“Unless,” he added quietly, “you ask me to.”And damn! For a mome

ELOWEN When I woke up the next morning, the initial sight that greeted me was not the sunlight, but rather his presence… Alexander Veyrek, he was still there. He sat by the window, legs crossed, his sleeves rolled up to his forearms, he was speaking into his phone in that low, unhurried voice that could make even a death threat sound like a promise. The early light spilled across his face, outlining the strong edge of his jaw, and glistening softly on his stubble. There was a calm arrogance in the way he leaned back…I blinked, what the hell is wrong with me!?My brain is still trying to reconcile the sight of him — the same man who had practically moved into my hotel suite without permission, acting like he owned the place.Well, technically he does own it, but I am focusing on the room, okay? For now, it's mine! “…No, shift the numbers by noon. If the press asks, say it was a joint decision,” he commanded someone over the call, gaining my sole attention. His tone was precise, ras

ELOWEN I stood there stunned, staring right at the phone screen. It was a text from Adrian. My fingers trembled as I swiped the text and as soon as I did, my breath left my lungs. For a moment, I couldn’t move, my world just tilted. A message with an image attached. It's a photo — me and Alexander at the gala, his hand at my back, our eyes locked. Underneath it, Adrian’s message:‘You can play pretend all you want, darling. But you’ll always be mine.’ My stomach twisted at those words. Initially, they might sound romantic, but they're not. It felt more like a threat, a warning. The air around me turned heavy, and I exhaled a sharp breath. “Something wrong?” Alexander asked quietly, his eyes watching me intently. I tried to hide the screen, but his gaze was too sharp — he noticed instantly. In two strides, he was in front of me. I didn’t resist when he took the phone gently from my hand. His eyes scanned the text. The change in his expression was subtle. A tightening around the

ELOWEN The silence was the loudest thing in the room after Alexander disappeared into the night. And I, like a useless piece of sh*t, stood frozen by the balcony doors, fingers still clutching the edge of the curtain where he had vanished. The city lights glittered far below in the distance, while my heartbeat pounded like a warning in my ears. ‘Mine.’—That word, that damned word had rolled out from his tongue as though it's the biggest truth of life, and it still hadn’t left me. It echoed in the hollow of my idiotic brain, mocking the very air I breathed. Damn you Veyrek! I dragged a shaky breath and forced myself to move, pacing the length of the suite. He said someone was watching. Maybe Adrian’s man, or probably we're just paranoid. Either way, he had vanished into the dark like some assassin while I stood here, trembling between fear and fury. I poured myself a glass of water, my hands trembling so much the liquid sloshed over the rim. My throat was too dry to sw
