"Mirelle, are you sure about this? You and Shane grew up together. You really wanna marry his uncle, Quentin Quandt?"

Didn't matter how many times she asked. My answer stayed the same. "Yeah. I'm sure."

"Well, if you're happy, we're in! Your dad and I'll start planning right away!"

Honestly, she was more hyped than me. That same day, she called Quentin. When he said yes, she bolted to the wedding planner and booked an outdoor venue.

Not long after that, Shane called.

"Mirelle Montclair, could you be any more shameless? You pushed this engagement on me, and now you're sneaking around booking a venue? Do you even have an ounce of dignity? Or are you just that desperate to get married? Pathetic."

I held my breath, then said, "Shane, I never planned on marrying you. The one I'm marrying is—"

He laughed. Cold. "So now you're playing hard to get? I should've known. Go ahead and plan your little wedding. I love Ceryn. I'm marrying Ceryn. You make me sick."

Click.

He hung up before I could finish.

Whatever. He'd find out soon enough—I wasn't marrying him.

Shane and I grew up next door, childhood sweethearts wrapped in one big, happy family. When we got older, our parents arranged the engagement.

But in my last life, he suddenly wanted out—to marry someone else. I said no. We fought.

Still married him anyway.

After the wedding? He was never around. When I finally got pregnant, he moved in with Ceryn Schuck. Unless it was a family event, he ghosted me.

Right before my due date, his family made him come home. That night, we argued. I started bleeding—bad.

I begged him to take me to the hospital. One call from Ceryn and he left me there.

I died. So did our baby. Never even got a chance.

Shane didn't bother coming to my funeral. He was off vacationing with her.

My parents? Crushed. They both got sick and died not long after.

Shane took everything—the house, the money. He and Ceryn built their picture-perfect life with kids and grandkids.

That marriage wrecked my family.

Not this time.

This time, I'm protecting the ones who actually love me.

On the wedding day, I got up early, did my makeup, slipped into my gown, and hopped in the car to the venue. We'd been driving a while, but we weren't there yet.The road kept getting sketchier, and my gut started twisting. My phone and bag were with my family in the car behind us.I asked the driver how much longer. He didn't say a word. That's when I noticed—cap, sunglasses, mask. His whole face was covered. My stomach dropped. Something was off.I looked back. No cars. My family was gone.Panic kicked in. I grabbed the door handle. The car suddenly gunned it, slamming me back into the seat. Before I could move, it veered off onto some sketchy dirt path and stopped in front of an abandoned warehouse. The driver peeled off the hat, glasses, and mask.He didn't have to turn around—I already knew. "Shane?! What the hell are you doing?!"That's when it hit me. 'Helping her was helping myself.' Ceryn knew. She'd known all along.Rage flared. "What do you want? Take me back!

Shane stood there, frozen. I heard him start to cry.But after just a couple steps, he caught up—and wrapped his arms around me, tight."I've thought about it," he said. "I don't care that you're married. I know I messed up, and that's why you did it."His tears hit my neck, cold and sticky."If you file for divorce tomorrow, I'll forgive everything. We'll make it work. No more distance, okay?"His voice dropped, desperate. "I can't live without you. I've been in love with you this whole time."I fought to break free, but he held on like a vice.Quentin had been waiting in the car, just close enough to see me.But when Shane grabbed me, we ended up behind a billboard—out of sight. His grip tightened, face pressing into my neck. He leaned in, ready to kiss me.I was about to scream—then suddenly, he hit the ground with a grunt.I stumbled back into a warm, steady hold.Quentin wrapped his arms around me. "Don't be scared. I've got you."Shane dragged himself up, glaring. "U

"Shane!" Ceryn stormed over, eyes red. "Weren't you the one always whining about how Mirelle clung to you like some desperate girl? And now you bail on getting the certificate—just to run to her?"She turned on me. "You're married now. Why are you still hanging around Shane? Or are you that pathetic—can't let go even after marrying someone else?"I shoved down the heat rising in my chest and stared her down. "One, he's clinging to me. Two, watch your mouth. And three—take him and leave. For good."Ceryn flinched, mouth twitching like she had something else to say, but stayed quiet. She grabbed Shane's arm to drag him off.But he slapped her. Hard."Shut up! Who do you think you are, talking to Mirelle like that? You've got no right."Ceryn clutched her cheek, tears spilling fast. "You hit me? Over HER? You used to call her a clingy wreck!"Shane's face twisted—guilt flipping straight into anger."That's between me and Mirelle. Not your business. Just leave me alone!"Ceryn s

That night, I went with Quentin to the Quandt estate for dinner.Everyone there knew I'd grown up with Shane—they probably all thought we'd end up together. And even though our sudden marriage must've thrown them, no one said a thing. Just smiles and warm congrats all around. After dinner, Quentin drove me home.We didn't talk. But the silence? It wasn't weird—it felt easy.Even though we weren't super close yet, being with him didn't feel awkward. Not even a little. After everything I'd lived through—and knowing how much he'd loved me in my past life—there was this quiet, steady comfort I couldn't shake.Right before I reached for the door, Quentin spoke, voice low."What're you thinking about?"I smiled, meeting his eyes. "Nothing really. Just... this all feels kinda unreal. I didn't think you'd say yes so fast. It caught me off guard."He smiled back, soft and warm, then pulled out a small box from his pocket.Inside was a gorgeous diamond ring."I bought this seven years

Shane turned at the voice and dropped my wrist like it burned him, straightening up fast.Yeah, he still feared his mom's younger brother."Uncle Quentin? What are you doing here? Thought you were still overseas for work?"Under Quentin's stare, Shane squirmed. Then he turned on me."This isn't on me—it's her! That girl's nuts!" He jabbed a finger at my face. "You remember Mirelle, right? She's lost it. Shows up in a wedding dress just to cause drama, now she's pretending she's marrying someone else!"He grabbed my shoulder, rough. "Mirelle, tell him. Isn't that what this is?"Before I could move, Quentin pulled me into his arms."She's not marrying you," he said. "She's marrying me."I looked up and met his eyes—steady, calm, grounding. He slid an arm around my shoulder, gentle but firm, and leaned in. "Don't worry. From now on, I've got you."Those words hit harder than anything else ever had.Shane stood frozen, color drained from his face. His eyes turned red, jaw clenc

  • I Married My Childhood Crush's Uncle   Chapter 3

That night, I hopped on a video call with Quentin. First time seeing him since my second shot at life, and yeah—I was a little jittery. We'd already planned to hit the County Clerk's Office the morning he got back. Even though we were about to tie the knot, things between us still felt kinda new. A little awkward, even. Then Shane called. "Mirelle, where'd you get the cash for that fancy dress? Don't tell me you're doing shady stuff behind my back. And you wore that gown just to piss off Ceryn, didn't you?"I told you to stay away from my fiancée! You're planning some fake wedding just to trap me, right?"Newsflash—I'm never marrying you, no matter what stunt you pull!I'd been floating after my chat with Quentin.Shane killed the vibe. I snapped. "Shane Fuchner, this is the last time I'm saying it—I'm not marrying you!"Didn't matter. No matter how many times I said it, he just wouldn't get it.Later that night, Shane posted some cringe status:[Getting our license on the 18t
